Re:My Favourite Laptop on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:20PM (#50341151)
I had the same with X230. A lovely laptop that still serves as a home server after 10 years or so from being bought, and it was already used, post-lease machine back when I bought it.

MacBook Air M2 is also great machine btw, if you don't mind the macOS

Probably more relevant for many of us would be this one:

> This article is about our consumer products such as Claude Free, Pro, Max and when accounts from those plans use Claude Code.

A newbie here, does it mean that SETH is false too?
Re:Gdynia and the Dream of a Maritime Poland on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:08AM (#50153416)
Probably Gdańsk, the typical neighbors conflicts between Gdynia and Gdańsk are common here, since the cities are very close to each other and thus compete for the same resources

I personally enjoy each of the cities and the Kashubia and Kociewie surroundings, it’s just each of these places has its own soul and unique culture

Re:Gdynia and the Dream of a Maritime Poland on Monday October 19, 2026 @08:12AM (#50151438)
Gdynia is an often overlooked neighbor of the famous Gdańsk. Together with Sopot and Gdańsk they make Trójmiasto (Tricity). I live here for 7 years now and this agglomeration together with Kashubian surrounding is my fav place in the earth. Worth visiting if you want to see Poland
I discuss it a lot with my wife who happens to be a painter.

For years we have perceived my work (swe) as a safe harbor. With AI boom, tides have changed and now I perceive her work as a much, much more future-proof activity

Re:Whistle: Speech to Text in 16.9 MB on Thursday October 08, 2026 @03:17PM (#50010645)
I hope you will find a solid solution for your father.

I was researching STT for people with speech disorders two years ago and essentially everything was boiling down to three problems at the end of the day - data scarcity, irregularity of way of speaking and thus constant ambiguity in translation, and individual differences in speech patterns among patients.

Much thanks for the explanation and for your help Daniel!

It’s not a dupe, it’s a full training and infra report
As far as I know we don't know much about metacognition in LLMs, though? Not sure
Same! I believe that you could actually train a LoRA on top of a model to get results close to that
The strange thing is that the base models (before RLHF) use the "experiential" voice, even though they are not incentivized to do that.
Thanks for pointing out, maybe I should be more explicit in the wording - I mean we don't fully know what drives the voice in LLMs. Models that are post trained as instruct models are expected to have the disclaimers, but what about base models (those that are trained on just a lot of text)? How do they talk about themselves? What happens when you strip off the chat template from instruct model's prompt? I hope the rest of the paper makes the questions clearer, but I will try to do better in the abstract next time, as you point out this sentence is kind ambiguous. Thank you!

I’d love this but for every hardware
Gratulacje Jan! Looks like something critical to gain adoption these days, security-wise. For others who also wonder how it works, I find this docs page a bit more informative than the landing page https://droprun.sh/docs/sandbox-overview/

Michał Zalewski (the author of this book) is goated. His book Silence on the Wire was very inspiring to me and the techniques he described often come to my mind years after reading the book
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026) on Monday September 14, 2026 @03:56AM (#49693396)
I study stats and probability
Re:LLMs and Self-Referentiality on Thursday September 03, 2026 @06:40AM (#49548318)
I found that in LLMs the self-reference defined as "referring in generated text to itself" (so a bit different than in Scott's blog) comes largely from the chat template

Re:Learn WebGPU for C++ on Thursday July 23, 2026 @02:35PM (#49026152)
It's a very useful guide, I used it when working on torch-webgpu some time ago. Elie also published few packages that help with using some WebGPU related things, I don't remember exactly what was that but I recall it saved me lots of time
