I can't recommend Euclid's "Elements" with enough emphasis. It really is an amazing book. It gives you a set of ~20 definitions, 10 axioms and then goes on for hundreds of pages constructing proofs using those axioms and the theorems derived from them. All the bullshit and fluff I've seen in standard geometry textbooks is missing... for the reader's benefit.
And you don't think the dissidents wouldn't use technology to circumvent the law enforcement bots? You don't seem to understand how brittle, rigid and flawed most/all of these algorithms are. With the right knowledge you can get around pretty much any technical system. Also, just a single person with that knowledge and the ability to implement it is a danger to the bloated, slow government(s) that might seek to use such a system.

I'm happy that they're putting money into developing better diagnostic methods for mental disorders, because, frankly, the existing tools are terrible.

After 9 years of misdiagnoses by several different doctors, earlier this year one astute doctor was able to uncover that I had bipolar 2 and not unipolar depression or SAD. I had mixed feelings about it (ironic) but I was put on the correct medications and they have made a world of difference. In fact, I read that it can often take close to a decade, on average, to diagnose types of bipolar properly, because doctors and patients simply don't communicate well. Any tools that shorten that time gap would benefit individuals and society as a whole.

"If it flies, floats or fucks - rent it." That's the saying.

Also, I wouldn't recommend anyone join the game industry for any period of time. I've never been in it, but I know 7-8 developers and they're all usually miserable and stressed out. Not only that, they make about 60% of what I make and they have no equity or reasonable vacation schedule.

It seems to be a very rollercoastery industry, where one moment people love what you made and then hate it the next. If you're a developer, you're basically a tool to implement the nonsense game designers come up with and your project manager is a cross between Gordon Ramsay and Tim Gunn. It sounds like a nightmare.

You know what the best part about the game industry is? Leaving it.
