It's back up for me now. As expected, the Nest dashboard never reported anything (https://status.nest.com/posts/dashboard).

Re:Anyone else having problems with AWS Lambda timeouts? on Tuesday October 05, 2021 @03:08PM (#28764134)
Yeah. I'm seeing the same thing.
So, it seems like the main concern here is that a client will not validate the SSL certificate, so the SSL layer is now manually added into javascript code using the WebCrypto API to prevent this? I see not validating SSL certificates being a potential problem with something like a REST API, but is it common to disable SSL verification at the browser level where you would need to use javascript to do this?
I'm in a similar boat with using IntelliJ super early on, and while I agree that the changes don't seem as huge as they were in the early days (mainly because, as you noted, it's now a fairly rich and complete product), they still are providing some cool features. For instance, in IntelliJ 14.1, they added a Java decompiler with debugging capabilities, so you can now ctrl+click into compiled code and set breakpoints. (http://blog.jetbrains.com/idea/2015/02/debug-decompiled-code...) .. that's been pretty cool for my workflow, at least.
The author claims that indie developers will be hit who let their licenses lapse due to limited income as well as forgetful corporations who forget to renew. I always found the reasons for these issues was because everyone's licenses expire at different times and it was hard to track (even with budgeting as an indie developer). If it is moved to a monthly service model, I think these issues would actually improve.
I think he's suggesting creating a similar project to dokku, but instead of using Docker, use Bocker.
I'd suggest talking to the cofounders in a non-accusatory manner. Startups are often disorganized and crazy and my guess is that the tax implications of your shares didn't even cross their minds because there are so many things going on. Also, what was the previous investment amount? If the previous investment is from a family or friend, my guess is that it's more of a bridge than an investment to keep the company afloat until true investment comes in (not enough to raise salaries). Either way, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and not jump to conclusions too early before talking to them.
Re:If you are storing important info in Evernote, think twice on Sunday February 22, 2015 @02:16PM (#9090581)
Yeah, maybe adding a database integrity check / repair after a crash would be a good addition.
Re:If you are storing important info in Evernote, think twice on Sunday February 22, 2015 @01:38PM (#9090407)
It looks to me like the data was stored in a temporary cache and never got synced because the application crashed. It's an unfortunate experience, but not one that warrants a fearful take on Evernote. Things happen. I've typed a draft in Gmail before and it never got synced so I've lost it, but it doesn't make me stop using it. Maybe we all need to just take a deep breath and remember how it was before everything synced.

That is pretty awesome, although, I believe "an honor-based converter box" is a far cry from an ATM.
Re:Starbucks Does Not Use Two-Phase Commit (2004) on Saturday August 17, 2013 @11:29AM (#6229334)
One additional concept that Starbucks handles is name collisions. If there are two Mikes, the person then must check the type of drink in order to differentiate his order from the other Mike's order. If they happen to be the same, it goes to the first person who ordered (or if one Mike is not aware of the other Mike, it's first come, first serve).

How are you getting the unique names for the owners?
Re:Migrate Your Instagram Photos to Flickr in One Click. on Wednesday December 19, 2012 @01:00AM (#4941390)
The Flickr API has some fun quirks, but it was a good experience overall. I'm glad you liked the app :)
Re:Hack4Reno: Reno's 24 Hour open data hackathon on Saturday October 01, 2011 @12:47AM (#3059360)
Hey, Harold! Damn, that's too bad .. it's definitely picking up here. Nice to hear from you. You should head back into town for the hackathon, though. Hit me up on twitter, @yodasan.
Re:Hack4Reno: Reno's 24 Hour open data hackathon on Friday September 30, 2011 @03:37PM (#3058289)
The tech community is there ... it's just hard to see. I've been working out of the Reno Collective for about 6 months now. I'm a software developer that took the plunge from corporate to freelancing and was working out of Starbucks, the library, my home, etc. I have to say that I was about to move to SF for the tech atmosphere before I learned that there is a real tech community here .. it's just sort of dislocated and disconnected in smaller groups. I'm really hoping to see Hack4Reno and other future events bring these groups together and sort of showcase the fact that there is a growing tech community out there.
Thanks :)
