About 10 years ago I found an office a mile from my house for $250/mo and I haven't looked back. I could not work from home with kids.

Ask HN: Anyone Using the Fxtec Phone?

I have never gotten over the old android radioactive phone ( with the pop out keyboard, can't remember the name of it) and this fxtec phone looks really fun. Just wondering if anyone has it and has any advice on whether to buy one. Thanks for any info.

Re:How Texas Can Become the Next Silicon Valley on Thursday December 31, 2020 @08:14AM (#25592334)
Texas, you'll recall, has creationism in science textbooks. Techs affair with Texas will be short lived as i don't think tech people are going to want their kids taught Texas science.
Re:What is your favorite C programming trick? (2009) on Sunday November 22, 2020 @08:12AM (#25177186)
I was excited then annoyed. I hate the SO moderators. It makes no difference to them how many people seek the answer, if they deem it off topic all those people are out of luck.
Re:Twitter still hasn't unlocked the New York Post's account on Tuesday October 27, 2020 @08:00AM (#24906561)
The post and fox news are absolutely light weight versions of the national enquirer. Regardless, Twitter can do what Twitter likes. You can start your own Twitter if you like. Twitters rights are as precious as fox news's.
Climate change is the new jesus. If you have faith it will just be true that there's no problem here.

Ask HN: Best Dev Laptop 2020

My huawei matebook x pro has just lost its USB for the second time. The first one was replaced under warranty. Since half the screws have fallen out of the back and since I only got 2 good years out of it, huawei is off the table. Can anyone recommend a super thin powerful laptop for dev work? I actually loved the huawei with Ubuntu but the manufacturing quality was so poor I just can't go...

Great product, great domain, and a great cause (not that you're a charity), good luck, this is really a great business
Re:Is it moral/ethical to buy a Tesla? on Sunday September 27, 2020 @11:01AM (#24607121)
This is so self elevating it makes me sick. Buy the car or don't but don't use it as an excuse to show how great you are
I never understand these stories. Why don't people just move?

Trump, not "US"
This is probably a good idea. Nothing else is working.
Re:Dream Vendor "Canna_Bars" Sentenced to Prison on Sunday September 20, 2020 @08:49AM (#24533702)
I totally agree. Consenting buyer and seller, this is a leftover from the Mayflower (no dancing kind of thing). At some point the world should just stop wasting money on preventing things that humans want. Prostitution, pot, etc., will never be stopped because people want to buy and sell it.
Re:Jitsi’s Emil Ivov on scaling up during a pandemic on Saturday September 19, 2020 @08:38AM (#24527010)
Anyone ever get jitsi to stay connected? We use Google meet daily but it's still half baked, we actually liked jitsi but could never keep it from dropping

This reads like a teenage girl rolling her eyes wrote it.
Atheists being militant and god not being possible can coexist. Belief in god is irrational, it's unrelated to atheists personalities.
Re:I just lost 1,400 BTC on Monday August 31, 2020 @07:59PM (#24337139)
Yeah agreed. If everyone was a developer and a security expert, Bitcoin is great, but instead its a massive hobby that has serious risk like what happened to this poor guy.
Qanon is just another religion gullible people believe something without proof because it feels good.
Re:Ask HN: How many of you are employed, self-taught SWEs? on Sunday August 30, 2020 @05:35PM (#24326117)
If you love to code just keep doing it is excellent advice.
Anything over a threshold requires bidding (usually rfp process). There are only like 20 cities that have money, everyone else is scraping buy. If you can deliver value for $100 / month, you can make money, otherwise you're looking at the rfp process. There are rfp aggregators like rfpmart and others that capture about 50% of the rfps out there. You should also be warned that there probably is competition out there even if you were unaware of it.

I miss hipchat, I truly don't understand why slack exists
I think it's because they want push notifications
