Re:Amazon to buy satellite firm Globalstar in $11.57B deal on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:35PM (#50280510)
Under SOLAS, GMDSS equipment is mandatory on ships. Iridium (and Inmarsat) meet that requirement, starlink does not - hence Iridium is still very much around...
Re:The Debt That Apple Owes to the CIA on Thursday August 20, 2026 @03:43PM (#49379222)
We had a Kendall Square Research machine with a NeXT front end. Can't say what it was being used for though, but it did take a lot of security clearances to get into that machine room...
The "Capabilities" section was not what I was expecting. Layers, via sizing, HDI - where's the details?
Yup, agreed. B&M making every PR screwup you'd expect!
From what I can see: Franchisee entered into a consignment agreement to sell the lego. They were not allowed to do that, so corporate took over the franchise.

BUT rather than unwind the agreement and return the lego, they just kept it. Argued for it to be dealt with legally. It was, they lost, so they closed down the store rather than return the lego.

Re:AMD removes free Linux Vivado support on Monday May 18, 2026 @03:55PM (#48184697)
AMD is removing linux support from their free 'basic' licence for Vivado - their FPGA tool. This is annoying for a number of FPGA based opensource projects...
Looks to me like they're trying to switch from IdenTrust 1yr certs to LetsEncrypt, but haven't got it right yet (https://bgp.he.net/certs#_SearchTab?q=www.public.cyber.mil)
So it looks like a new cert was issued back in February, but they've not deployed it yet (https://bgp.he.net/certs#_SearchTab?q=www.public.cyber.mil)

I've not plotted it myself, but I'm told that if you plot the links to other main microwave nodes, and then look at embassies from foreign nations....
Its like a sunburn blister. Takes a while to develop, usually whilst you're asleep. When you wake up, you open your eyes and rip the blisters open. I'm told it feels like hot sand being poured in your eyes at that point. Definitely one to avoid!
Sounds very much like arc eye (welder's flash). Very painful, caused by UV.
Re:IRIS²: The EU’s Response to Musk’s Starlink on Sunday February 19, 2023 @06:11PM (#34862865)
6 years ago the ESA and Arianespace were ridiculing reusable rockets, even as SpaceX was getting closer and closer to the non-RUD landing. Ariane 6 yet to launch, now trying to retrofit some level of reusability. Too slow, too stuck with their views... From my perspective, the 40ms I get from Starlink is worlds better then the 900ms I got from my 128kb/s Iridium Pilot (now in the skip).
