From my experience it can take a month or two until the plug is pulled, a lot of people who are discharged to LTACs also don't make it but it takes a bit

Re:The Day the Good Internet Died on Sunday August 01, 2021 @07:34PM (#28031281)
the weekly posts like this always come off as self-centered to me, whining about how the world revolves around the author and how it really should've created the perfect community for them and sent it over without any effort on their part
honestly why develop for safari anyway? you can't really complain about apple if you keep bending over backwards to support their software
Ah yeah it could be clearer I suppose, fwiw just using NBCOlympics.com and signing in with youtube tv (which I share with the rest of my fam.) is what I've been doing; I've heard of others using a ~$10/mo promo on sling and using that as a cable provider

all in all it's still better than trying to fight nba/mlb blackouts, where no matter who and what you pay you end up having to watch pirate streams (which also exist for tokyo2020)

nbc's website has both of those, thats what i've been using anyway
Re:Mixed Reality with Passthrough on Sunday July 25, 2021 @03:48AM (#27947519)
I think you're right, looking back on it my comment was kind of pointless
Are you just trolling?
Re:Mixed Reality with Passthrough on Saturday July 24, 2021 @05:45PM (#27944723)
I don't see how it's a weird opinion, I'm also speaking for myself others are free to enjoy the platform if they want I don't care
Re:Mixed Reality with Passthrough on Saturday July 24, 2021 @01:12PM (#27942638)
Neat, but I still wouldn't touch oculus with a 10 foot pole especially when cameras in my home are invovled
Re:Physically Based Rendering Book on Sunday July 18, 2021 @12:34PM (#27874264)
'as developers' don't speak for me, if you want to sell a book in a different way do it yourself ffs

As a developer I'm buying the physical copy, like I did the previous revision ( which is great btw )

the more outcomes the better the learnings my friend
Re:GitHub Copilot on Tuesday June 29, 2021 @01:56PM (#27679423)
I think it's easier to bring people down to the same level rather then bringing them up to it
Re:GitHub Copilot on Tuesday June 29, 2021 @11:35AM (#27677383)
Is that a bad thing? sw-developers are grossly overpaid to the point it's damaging
Re:The Lightness of Windows on Monday June 28, 2021 @02:05PM (#27665318)
lol
there's nothing wrong with ads on stuff like this; televisions aren't sacred ground.
Re:AWS acquires Wickr on Friday June 25, 2021 @09:37PM (#27638246)
Yep, and TBH if anyone has first hand experience with the importance of messaging app security it's their current CEO
Re:Rally, a novel privacy-first data sharing platform on Friday June 25, 2021 @02:22PM (#27634508)
Mozilla has been known to be pretty iffy when it comes to 'opt in' ( the mr. robot tie in .. etc )
Re:Nvidia Canvas on Thursday June 24, 2021 @11:54PM (#27626984)
Why wouldn't it be?
Re:Microsoft announces Windows 11 on Thursday June 24, 2021 @01:19PM (#27620833)
It's just teams replacing skype and easy enough to disable, the issue with IE was strong arming I doubt Microsoft is going to strong arm slack at any other level.. same goes for Onedrive/iCloud
Re:Microsoft announces Windows 11 on Thursday June 24, 2021 @11:57AM (#27619461)
Windows works well enough for me it's just a tool
Re:Microsoft announces Windows 11 on Thursday June 24, 2021 @11:55AM (#27619429)
I think amazon's appstore is free of google play services which could be a big reason
more likely it's so there's a legal ability to prevent someone from flying drones around if they are causing problems
I thought WebTV was on to something big, in my mind more people would be spending time in interactive environments/encyclopedias and playing with 3d toys in their living rooms instead of passively watching television

now people watch more static video content than ever and are damaged to a point where it will take a generation or two to recover if it all -- whooops

Re:Apple is building the metaverse substrate on Monday June 21, 2021 @04:31PM (#27584039)
> Or, idk, I'm blind because I think Apple products are so

> great. The latter most is probably more likely.

Isn't Microsoft already shipping AR headsets to the US Army? if anything they are the leaders in the space

anyway, as far as "Metaverse" goes I'd argue we already have multiple and the presentation layer is just gradually changing

Re:Our journey from office-centric to remote-first on Sunday June 20, 2021 @08:37PM (#27575123)
It depends on the work, there are a lot of dev jobs out there that are boring tech, boring co-workers, boring managers, boring problems
Re:“Great resignation” wave coming for companies on Monday June 14, 2021 @07:54PM (#27509849)
Google's opinions on anything are overrated
