yeah i love this comparison- that's why i avoid places that are clearly sysco wrappers (or massive chains that are just wrappers around their own supply chain)
basically any food establishment that has "supply chain operation" is slop to me; I guess it's similar to my distaste in reading AI slop too
I don't fault ppl for going (and enjoying) those too- Chili's can be enjoyable after a few beers
yes yes definitely, restaurants should not be microwaving food for paying customers (ok if some components are) but like... not serve a completely microwaved dish
happened to me once lol, will never forget that place ever again (blech)
> As more people delegate writing to LLMs they will also delegate thinking and comprehension to LLMs. I don't want to do that, where's the fun of writing then?
I enjoy cooking from scratch, and I really don't like frozen foods, microwave/TV dinners, or even DoorDashing
but we're past complaining/arguing/shaming folks who don't cook every meal from scratch
you know what, I don't prefer eating it, but if my next door neighbor loves microwaving frozen $3 burritos, then go ahead
to some people, food is art, creativity, life
to others, food is fuel
also applies to writing and thinking
nah you dont always have the luxury of meal prep (or planning/grocery store runs) when you have a newborn - besides this takes up so much time and energy
too bad only the iMac gets all the color!!!
interesting they're going back to the fixed-seat bench design of the 40's-60's kind of car design - didn't know these were allowed anymore
also wonder how comfy that is? i kind of welcome it tho!
cargo bike with a e-bike mod
it doesnt generate text though, only probabilities
use it to classify a bunch of research papers (by feeding it section by section, or summaries of sections if too long)
works like a charm
(not a product, so not much to share)
your crumpet post is very informative!! but wont waffles get jealous of crumpet
its still called twitter
(for some of us)
riding horses is many ways way more fun than driving a car (earliest form of self driving!!!); but I'd never consider riding as a real form of transportation
it's fine to keep riding though as long as you're having fun!! but it will definitely get worse and worse as a form of transportation
(this is true for hand coding too)
yeah, and its happening in every country, but a lot of ppl make it feel like its just here
Mac's liquor store must be making a killing
(it's right outside GT's campus)
as long as there are things in and our lives to improve, there are opportunities to build great companies that provide a lot of value
i dont think those exist purely in software anymore- but if you look around at say, the skyrocketing number of elderly and nursing homes (just as an example) there are probably dozens of ways to improve lives and make a good living there
and electronics and hardware has always been so difficult and expensive to get into- but with new infra and workflows and 3d Printing and getting stuff from China- it's vastly cheaper and easier to do a robotics or hardware startup than 20 years ago
there will always be opportunities!
cost of living is bc of high price of energy

idk when most ppl's cars break down, they dont have the mental model to fix their cars either
we've been here / done this before, but in other journeys and with other "vehicles"
this is just another kind of vehicle, in a field where vehicles never existed
FYI if you're getting a Worker Exception, using Cloudflare Warp / 1.1.1.1 can get the article
If they want something that looks more like FDA sanction clinical trial proceedings for these products, then what they have to also realize is that they will need a third party to audit every single thing for every single product release and you get something like ERoom's law where every success and model gets more and more expensive release and probably billions of dollars in multiple years release so I don't know if this actually helps them
I've been reading Chip War and it seems like original funding for chip design was for the Space Race and for guided missiles - so basically most of Silicon Valley was started / funded by military all along
have they ever improved the charging system so the charging leads dont get gunked up?
I have a pair of airpod pro 2 and i have to scrape the leads almost every day
would be amazing if they did it thru induction charging (tho i guess thats really slow)
i absolutely love seeing the entire feed of links - already found a few great reads. thanks for this treasure!!!!
this is really nice! i think it looks great!
the infinite scroll prevents the footer from ever being seen though
https://rdltr.app/help is in the footer and it looks really helpful!
also, any plans to open source 0:)
I think this is true with some people, but I don't think this holds true for some (or even most) people across the US (at least not all the folks I've worked with)
this would wreck a lot of the marketing efforts and probably be bad for their bottom line in the long run
I'm surprised the Sony team isn't freaked out about this
it's more horrifying to think that an entire generation's "taste" might be built on the constant output of LLMs
it's like a new generation of chefs that only knows of Chili's, and thinks it's good.
shudder
didn't know that! have a 2024 Premium and it's still loud
no one's complained (I don't even know if they notice), I just feel like it's obnoxious - I can feel the car arrive from the apt shaking haha
