News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Hey @jenandre, I'm one of the founders of CodePicnic.

This is pretty awesome! Would love to chat some time. We're thinking about open sourcing some extra stuff (since we've built our own in OSS as well) and would be greatly interested in your take on that.

Let me know if I can reach you or ping me (alvaro AT codepicnic DOT com).

Awesome work!

Thanks for letting us know! We'll take a look to see what could be going on.
Every user gets their own copy, so if you load it on another browser or as incognito you'd found another one ready to use.

We're monitoring the servers to make sure everything is working fine, though.

Got curious, what did you make it do?

Hey guys,

We are CodePicnic (codepicnic.com), a platform for sharing, running and showcasing code through a browser. We help people and business improve their demos, APIs documentation, or anything that needs for their users to run and try some code online.

We'd love to improve our "getting there" process. We've been interacting with users here in Hacker News, Reddit, Product Hunt and other sites, and getting better and increasing our usage, but still we feel is not enough right now. Our first users love us, the service and the potential, but perhaps there's something glaring we aren't doing well in order to be more well known. Is a long process, we get it, but the more we learn, the better.

I also believe this is an important matter that many other startups would love to learn about.

We've been working hard on that one. One of our servers failed but it's behaving fine again. Really, really sorry about that, but take a look whenever you can!

That's our view as well. We really believe that current technologies allow for us to move and do more stuff while on the run. Thanks for your visit!

So, that has fun (or not). Should be working fine again now. Really sorry about that, we're under heavy load but doing our best to keep things running.
That's pretty interesting. We love working with awesome use cases, so feel free to explore using it as a tunnel for your servers.

Is there a way for you to send me your vim config? Would love to see if there's something I can do to improve our support.

You can reach me at alvaro AT codepicnic DOT com.

Thanks! It really feels good for others to see hard work <3

We've been exploring this kind of scenarios at [http://codepicnic.com], where you can create your tutorial and then run some sort of test to see if it's running (perhaps returning non-zero values from some script or testing the existence of some files) but so far we think most of the attempts are a bit clumsy and would lead to false positives.

But would love to exchange ideas on the topic.

Have you tried using OSM through it? We've got support: http://hpneo.github.io/gmaps/examples/map_types.html
Re:Gmaps.js the easiest way to use Google Maps on Saturday June 02, 2012 @11:34AM (#4058273)
It was born as a jQuery plugin for a couple of projects we had to use Google Maps and that incidentally used jQuery as well, so it made sense.

We aren't totally sure it will move forward as an independent Javascript library but it's certainly a turn it could have. We are rewriting it with Coffeescript now, so maybe is something to consider more closely.

I does not. You have access to a, albeit limited, number of requests to to Geolocating, Geo-referencing and others. Should be no problem for a personal or small project.

That's certainly a nice project. No idea why it went pass our radar. We'll look into that!

For what is worth, we also have a Rails gem for GmapsJS at github.com/xenda/gmapsjs.

Issues and ideas are always welcome for both the JS and Gem versions!
