News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Does anyone use this?

Looks very interesting.

As I said before:

What happened to the profession of software engineering? The craft and quality has been thrown out of the window in pursuit of slop.

We are disrespecting our own profession by turning the software we build into fast food junk where nobody wants anything we make and nobody cares about the quality and craft of creating software.

We are just building the same things repeatedly over and over again with nothing inventive or new, wasting engineering and the users time in the process.

AI has just shown how unimaginative some engineers are in choosing what problems in software to build and solve.

We need to do way better.

Saved you a click, it is AI slop garbage.

Why do we need to tolerate this vibe coded slop?

We need a marker on posts which are complete AI generated rubbish.

Is there a marker to know if any of these tools are AI generated slop here?

That would be a good feature here.

How does this compare to Cursor?

What happens if Cursor makes the exact same features as your product?

Time to pick up a pencil?

Or (god forbid)

Hire more artists?

> The Rust Foundation is a 501(c)(6) and not a 501(c)(3). The Rust Foundation would do better for the community if they were a 501(c)(3) and more transparent about finances. Follow this example for the greater good.

This was exactly my issue with the Rust Foundation back in 2021 when it was formed, 501(c)(6) are for trade organisations. To this day, individuals still CANNOT donate to the Rust Foundation which means it is not community led.

> Note: At this time, the Rust Foundation [still] does not offer individual memberships.

https://rustfoundation.org/get-involved/#donations

The main issue of the Rust Foundation is that makes it easy for companies to buy influence in the project by buying a board seat as a benefit.

I agree that the Rust Foundation should change their governance structure to a 501(c)(3) instead of a 501(c)(6).

This link didn't help at all.

Took me a second to understand what this is with the submitted link, and installed it in seconds.

It's a mailing list? You aren't forced to use and it isn't required to use the service.

I also don't see 'mailing list' in your list of complaints.

Re:Vitalik Buterin is worried about crypto's future on Monday March 21, 2022 @08:56AM (#30753549)
Yes.

And most (I would even count all) of the biggest cryptocurrencies use-cases are entirely wasteful.

I think you should add flutter and dart to this list. I don't see anyone using it or any jobs in it at all, sooner or later it will die.
Re:Framework Raises $18M Series A on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @01:07PM (#30166567)
My heart sank when I saw this, is it that do we feel the need to keep raising money from power hungry venture capitalists?
Re:Monetize your Qt apps with advertising on Tuesday February 01, 2022 @10:02AM (#30163339)
No one. No one at all.

Qt: "Let's place ADS in your car! fridge, washing machine! your dog's collar and anything that is using Qt!"

"Why glance for the time on your watch when you can get an Qt enabled AD instead?"

Nobody asked for this.

Is it wrong for the WMF to accept alternatives?

So the WMF accepting payments with Solana, Stellar, etc means they are destructive to the environment?

I assume when Molly mentions 'Cryptocurrencies' she means ALL.

Good, only nitpick is not enough years. Mark Zuckerberg should be next.
Re:Are there any good companies anymore? on Monday January 03, 2022 @07:27PM (#29789180)
There is a procedure for this:

https://bimpactassessment.net/complaints-procedure

It seems you can get them removed and it does look like you are complaining about a company that shouldn't be a B Corp, so you could take your complaint there.

Not sure if that means that all B Corps or B Corps are bad in general.

Re:Are there any good companies anymore? on Tuesday December 28, 2021 @12:38PM (#29715950)
OK, then one would just tell B Corp to remove them the list no? I don't see how this invalidates all companies on that list.

What company is this anyway?

Re:Are there any good companies anymore? on Tuesday December 28, 2021 @07:01AM (#29712916)
then don't go to that company?
Re:Are there any good companies anymore? on Monday December 27, 2021 @08:03PM (#29709052)
still not a definition of a 'good company'

If I would have to guess, OP may want to go into a non profit or a creator based company like Kickstarter or companies that have joined to be a B Corp [0]

Re:Are there any good companies anymore? on Monday December 27, 2021 @07:41PM (#29708851)
define 'good company'
What needs to be done is show a LIST of accounts who have downvoted or flagged a post.

Then we can find out if there really are bots on this site. (I am leaning towards there are.)

Re:Show HN: A framework for building Markdown extensions on Thursday December 16, 2021 @06:23AM (#29577161)
How does this compare to https://postmark.com? Is it also email API in typescript can it also do email in markdown?
