By definition, a black swan event cannot be predicted. It doesn't just mean "a larger fire" or "the event of a lifetime".
Re:Stealing Reasoning Traces from Proprietary LLM APIs on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @07:18PM (#49265804)
Your examples are cases in which you know what the bill is going to be before placing your order. With LLMs, you're paying per output token, not per request, yet you don't get all the tokens.
They offer both a subscription model and a lifetime purchase. Or that used to be the case, at least. But I agree that it feels like it's getting behind.
Re:How Blackwing Pencils are Made [video] on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @06:27AM (#49255934)

How do they compare with Faber Castell 9000? (I normally write with these, in HB or 2B hardness)
Re:Can Intel finally beat ARM on performance per Watt? on Saturday August 08, 2026 @06:49PM (#49226639)
How are laptop GPUs these days in terms of energy consumption? My last experience was a while ago, but the battery drained fast with them active.
I only know the Uni system of a few European countries, but generally I would expect Philosophy to be a prerequirement that you take for your entrance examinations, not during studies per se (unless you're studying humanities, of course).
Taking propranolol in this case is, in fact, an example of being a functioning adult, and a solution that also works for oral examinations.
I would claim the difference between being rejected an API request and being potentially jailed/shot is significant.
Not WW2, but GPS depends on General Relativity to calculate time differences between satellite signals and ground correctly.
Not lawmakers in this case, but judges having no understanding of what they're ruling on.

The fact that the oldest current law in the list is about places where nuns are allowed to be buried is quite amusing, in some sort of way.
To be fair, the BOE website often offers the consolidated version for many important laws, which includes further amendments by other laws in one text.
Re:Open Camera is a FOSS Camera App for Android on Friday March 06, 2026 @04:52PM (#47281583)

Having been both in academia and industry, to me Stephen always sounds too academic for business, but for academia, a mix of too "industry" and a crank.
Or accelerated, since development would have ceased to be restricted to Wolfram's employees

This was my experience too, lots of cities to choose but all of them US-based. Not even London or Berlin. I'll wait and see :)
Wasn't Murex some sort of backend software for financial institutions?
Re:Show HN: Using AI to generate a JUCE tutorial on Tuesday August 05, 2025 @07:09AM (#44796620)
I used my $20 welcome credit and the Orchestrator mode to generate a JUCE tutorial with kilocode.ai, hopefully I can use it as a base for teaching myself to code audio plugins.
Thankfully it's quite easy to go for several weeks without rebooting, but this is so annoying.
The purpose of a PhD is to certify that you're able to do independent research. Many researchers retrain (or just add a research interest) in adjacent fields during their postdocs or later. At that point it's just research.
This happens to me, but only while brain adapts to the new chemical balance. After that it's back to no remembering dreams.
Re:The Hamburger-Menu Icon Today: Is It Recognizable? on Thursday June 19, 2025 @12:02PM (#44319904)
