Dreams are not what happen when you sleep, dreams should be what keep you from sleeping. - (not sure who said this)
Be yourself, everyone else is taken - Oscar WildeIMO no truer words have been spoken. Much unpleasantness would have been avoided
had I known . HTH.
I was responding to an oversimplified and vacuous argument, that naively assumes that supply and demand are the only two market forces. You ought to read up on the field of System Dynamics. I am not "cherrypicking", but you are over simplifying.
If you were an entrepreneur you would understand....
Implicit in that statement is a shortage. If programmers have choices, by definition implies more demand, less supply. You contradict yourself!
define "enough". Easy enough for you to pontificate, if you know better, start your own company and pay everyone million $ salaries. What are you waiting for?
p.s. I am an entrepreneur and have had significant hiring challenges for my company. So not spewing out stock lines from Lou Dobbs and his ilk.
well, there is no infinite elasticity of supply & demand.
what is that these people do, that they turn down even 125K,150K,200K - according to you - "low salaries"? McD? or Welfare paying higher?
So go do it! be the change you want! You know, if you want something done right, DIY! Setup a noble, patriotic company that only hires "Americans" and pay then $250K or $1MM salaries... Go ahead!
Stop whining and enough already with the arm-chair generalship, easiest thing in the world.

The stock response such arguments is: "there is no shortage of programmers, just a shortage of programmers at a given salary". Yeah right!
"There is no poverty. just shortage of people with money"

The UI/IX is a bit clunky IMHO - the wizard interface is meh. Lookup

their UI seems more intuitive.
These are all very good reasons posted below, but I believe that the most important reason is corporate mindset . The powers that be - mostly old-hands- view software as physical "property" and unwilling to let go. Sharing it is seen as sacrilege! Also is seen as providing competitors a peek under the kimono and giving them an advantage.
It is the same reason that many pharmas don't release the data of their failed trials. How much better the world would have been had we had a commons of the failed drug trials. sigh

The first few seconds I don;t know what the app does....more importantly how it is different from the bazillion other place rating apps.
Is there any other option for my (slightly) grown-up startup with a ton of traction to come pitch you?
p.s I did read the YC FAQ etc. But hoping that might be just the "official line" :-)

Do you invest, advise or other ways involved with any co.s that choose not to participate in YC or have matured beyond a YC stage? Some startups need more your sage advice, than any investment.
Thanks, have you used it? The limits seem a bit small....or is it more cost-effective that AWS?
