I was dumb enough to sign up... The results are not impressive at all.

Now they have my CC number. There is no way to cancel your account. There is just a gmail support email... Let's see if I get my $14.99 back.

Could someone elaborate on what the worst-case exploit would be for those number that got leaked? How would a scenario look like? Asking for a friend whose number got exposed...

It might not solve your problem. It does solve problems for other people like me though.

I have bought this, too. It's great.

There is also a “free” site, which offers lovely designs: https://tailblocks.cc/

Re:What defines a great company culture? on Wednesday April 07, 2021 @05:53PM (#26731870)
I guess it depends on how hard it is enforced. In the end, consistency is something gray and not black and white.
Re:What defines a great company culture? on Wednesday April 07, 2021 @08:00AM (#26723575)
> They key to a strong culture is consistency from the top. The CEO's job is to make sure everyone on the management team is on the same page. If a senior leader wants to create their own unique culture for their part of the org, they can't be allowed to stay.

I love this entire thread and it resonates a lot with me. I, too, believe that there is not THE right company culture that will solve everybody’s problems. Many in the agile or “new work” camp seem to believe that their way is the ONLY way, for example.

Consistency is much more important than how the culture actually is.

Maybe. And maybe he’s there because he is a smart lad who knows which products to monitor closely.

After all he bought Instagram and WhatsApp for peanuts, and copied the best features of SnapChat.

Awesome! Thank you

1. If you are coding or writing, multiply the expected time of any specific task by ∼ 1.5x (the real completion time will now probably still be 1.5x longer than your new expected time, but you tried).

1.5x matches my real-world SW dev experience.

Is there a good page about font sizes, spacings and all that?
Re:Carbon's interstellar journey to Earth on Monday April 05, 2021 @07:05PM (#26705806)
Thanks for the write-up, absolutely fascinating.

Mind-boggling to imagine how all that then led to living objects and finally us exchanging messages on this platform.

Makes you wonder if it all happened by pure chance or if we are all part of an elaborated plan...

There is a doctor on HN who frequently writes about how bad overdosing Vitamin D can be. So I’d be careful on the dosage at least.

The site is hosted on medium. I doubt that it can be hugged to death?
Re:When Feynman met Dirac (2020) on Monday April 05, 2021 @08:53AM (#26698290)
This all sounds an awful lot like a standard telenovela drama.

So he was awarded the Nobel Prize for being a "showman"?
I remember a Ted talk saying that China grew much faster than India not because of any infrastructure advantage they had. But because of stronger role women play in the work force.

Re:Commoditize your complements (2002) on Saturday April 03, 2021 @01:36AM (#26678651)
The way I understand complement like it’s defined in the article is: something you buy from different players to use with your product. Cars/gas, Hardware/SW.

It’s not something you need to produce your product in the first place, like steel for car manufacturers. Thus, I don’t think your examples qualify tbh.

Re:Commoditize your complements (2002) on Friday April 02, 2021 @04:12PM (#26675438)
I’ve read about this before. I can’t you tell you why, but somehow I think there’s something about that theory that doesn’t feel right. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe someone else can?

Are you aware that computers are a “bicycle for the mind”?
Re:Zero click vulnerability in Apple’s macOS Mail on Thursday April 01, 2021 @06:20PM (#26666953)
> Android had it since ~2012.

I seriously wonder: what difference did it make? Was there any groundbreaking thing iOS users missed for 8 years?

Apple is just great in omitting things and keeping focus to deliver a great product and then expand on that basis.

Most famous example: First iPhones didn’t have MMS

How creativeneous!
Re:Fish Doorbell on Thursday April 01, 2021 @02:24PM (#26664227)
From the Wikipedia article you referenced to:

> Fish ladders have a mixed record of effectiveness. They vary in effectiveness for different types of species, with one study showing that only three percent of American Shad make it through all the fish ladders on the way to their spawning ground

I guess that’s what they call artificial selection pressure.

> What if we change the way we think about a startup’s first marketing site altogether?

Wait what? I don’t get it... Which startups website isn't an MVP? Can anyone explain what the point of this article is?

Re:Stop Calling Everything AI, Machine-Learning Pioneer Says on Wednesday March 31, 2021 @03:09PM (#26651648)
I am pretty sure there is an AI toothbrush already...

(Haven't googled it yet, I swear!)

Re:Stop Calling Everything AI, Machine-Learning Pioneer Says on Wednesday March 31, 2021 @03:08PM (#26651631)
I understand what you are saying and I tend to agree. But: AI would then be way more specific to computers. Science Fiction is a very broad term also applied to biology, engineering etc.
Re:Stop Calling Everything AI, Machine-Learning Pioneer Says on Wednesday March 31, 2021 @02:33PM (#26651128)
I really liked the definition of AI (back in 2015) by Seth Godin - a marketer!

>One common insightful definition of AI: Artificial Intelligence is everything a computer can't do yet. As soon as it can, we call it obvious.

If the term is used like that it does make sense to me.

I am a bit skeptic when it comes to these things. But, I have been doing a 1 min "prayer" every day while taking a shower in the morning. I remind myself how well I am off compared to many people and what a great family I have etc. It has really helped me to start the day with a calmer mind.
I seriously don’t mean this in an offensive way. But isn’t bringing Apple now into this, “Whataboutism” in disguise?
