Re:Bit Tech squares off with EU regulators on Wednesday April 09, 2025 @04:16AM (#43629971)
This looks like a Mexican standoff… The White House wants to use tariffs as leverage for concessions against the EU, Big Tech would also like concessions from both EU (less moderation, less antitrust probes, less privacy regulations, etc.) and the White House (less tariffs), while the EU is now more inclined to increase scrutiny of Big Tech as a way to push the White House to relent on tariffs. You are not wrong, but not all stories (about politics, crime, etc.) are created equal. This one is about an ongoing war, which may soon end or escalate, and that it may cause an arms race (which may have been underway for some time) with implications altering the world order permanently. I suspect more than a few HN readers may be affected by this, and are therefore interested in this article.
