My take is that that there is no way to prove conclusively the existence nor the nonexistence of an afterlife. So each person makes a decision (bet). At the end of this life, we each find out if we were right or not. Well, technically, if there is an after life, we would find that out. If not, we don't find anything out, do we?
worknflow looks great. I think it will be useful for me. Thanks for building it!

In case you're open to suggestions, being able to adjust the Pomodoro duration would be awesome. The traditional 25 minutes always seemed a little too short for me.

And just curious about the stack if you care to share.

Care to summarize what you know now that you didn't know then?

Any recommended resources for experienced developers on the OO side wanting to learn Clojure?

Did you know you can add comments to a favorites list? Click on the comment's time stamp, e.g. '3 hours ago' and on the next page there will be a 'favorite' link right above the comment.
This is one of the more important books I've read on this matter recently:

Those aren't really counterexamples. They corroborate this finding by the OP:

Don't be too jealous. My main concern with Node and its ecosystem is maturity and security. It loses hands down on both those points compared Ruby / Rails especially in the area of dependencies.

This keeps me happily in Rubyland.

Re:JavaScript fundamentals before learning React on Friday July 20, 2018 @01:51AM (#17572797)
no, because you're not passing the arg in now right?
Re:JavaScript fundamentals before learning React on Friday July 20, 2018 @12:07AM (#17572381)
I usually do this when I need to pass arguements in:

  <button onClick={ (arg) => this.smth(arg) }></button>
How can I do this without defining a function?
Re:The Fred Rogers We Know on Friday July 06, 2018 @12:28PM (#17472718)
He took his Christian faith very seriously and that heavily influenced his worldview and treatment of others.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Jesus in the book of Mark 12:30-31

No. If he's an expert at gaming the SEO game, then maybe. Or if he gets super lucky.

Exactly. Bad and/or wrong is worse than nothing at all.

I searched for a Perl6 repl to try it on and it works! Perl is so whimsically fun. :)

Thanks for the tips!

Yeah, I should have been more explicit. When I say build secure applications, I imply the full stack including infrastructure. I updated my comment accordingly.

Is there a course (or set of courses), books or other learning material you recommend for web developers to get to a competent level in terms of building, deploying and maintaining secure applications (including infrastructure)?

Edit: updated to be more clear

Re:Ask HN: What are the best MOOCs you've taken? on Tuesday April 03, 2018 @03:33PM (#16748298)
Would this course be appropriate for those with a lot of general programming (OOP) knowledge, but little to no FP experience?
Drag and drop an item from Finder to the terminal and it expands to its full path. Not sure if Linux does something similar as I'm not a regular user.

I don't see any vilification in that question.

I would also add to this that if there does exist an eternal existence after one's death [1], then it is infinitely rational to spend this comparatively short life finding out what the nature of that eternity is and how best to prepare for it.

[1] Which incidentally, I don't think is possible to conclusively prove nor disprove. Like most things in life, you look at the evidence and make your decision.
