Yes, I understand they changed it before GNIS, but it's updated now: https://edits.nationalmap.gov/apps/gaz-domestic/public/searc...

So again, it looks like they changed it to align to an upcoming change to official sources. They probably should not have claimed it was wholly dependent on USGS.

It's in USGS now: https://www.usgs.gov/news/featured-story/directed-president-...

Idk what timeline you're looking at, but if they knew it was changing anyway, might as well.

Also, the President in many ways has a lot of control over all three branches of government. Do they really want to risk contracts because USGS hasn't technically been updated yet?

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:48PM (#50277839)
I worked at MS when they were putting out win 8, so I'm maybe biased. I enjoyed the touch interface laptops but I'll fully acknowledge that in my case they were making up for a bad touchpad experience.
Re:New iMac with M6 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:28AM (#50273200)
Yeah, and I appreciate that but I think I need air or better.
Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @04:29PM (#50265331)
I do think they should offer that for iMacs as well.
Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:05AM (#50259591)
I wish they would put these colors on laptops.
Yeah, at least in the pre-AI times I was writing way less code than in my startup days. but like 10 to 1000x people actually interacted with them.

OP might have been stuck in a dept that is winding down to prep for a layoff or something. I probably would have stuck around unless I found a different role. Who knows, you might just get some severance.

Re:Websites Should Be Printable on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:24PM (#50248533)
we only had a black and white printer, I don't think they would spring for color. Also, iirc he had a script he had us run to print it, so it' not like we were printing straight from the editor.
Re:Websites Should Be Printable on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:43AM (#50244606)
I had a professor who asked us to print source code for our projects for him to read. Looks like he's still at it. I'm sure he's being driven insane in these AI times.

Ask HN: Friends, what is your Plan B?

I'm solidly in the midpoint of my career, I'm seeing the level uncertainty rising. More and more of my day is watching a robot do my job. My company seems to be moving away from PIPs to straight up firings. The bottom hasn't dropped out quite yet, but I'm not liking the trends.I know I daydream a fair bit about what my alternate career path might be. I know I'd be making less but but maybe...

Unfortunately, it would actually probably matter a lot if you can afford a good attorney.

Glad to see you're doing well now.

You could have separate drones bring the gear.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @07:34PM (#50126209)
er, but it's also being propelled. Maybe they are able to ease off the thrusters so it's a soft landing.

I do think that this could only work for a short timespan and getting it to work perfectly each time with variances in weight would be hard. I'd imagine the thrusters and the tank would would wear out over time too, would be a nasty landing if only some of the thrusters worked.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:14PM (#50125461)
yeah... I want to see the crash test videos. If someone is driving around with this in their trunk I'm staying away.
Re:The Fatal Flaw of 911 on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:46PM (#50125182)
Eh, it's hit and miss. I've had complaints just get closed out with no action.

Also when calling for someone who may be in crisis, like someone sleeping on the street in too cold a weather, they kinda just bounce you to 911 iirc.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:40PM (#50125123)
Er, is that not what Lambos do?

I always heard they were a pain to get serviced with long wait times. Not sure how well they hold their value either.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:36PM (#50125090)
yeah if I had a preorder for a roadster, I'd be wondering about how much time they're spending on this compressed air thing.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:34PM (#50125071)
I think it was a real demo, but I share in the skepticism that this is something that could reach the market. How big is this cold gas container? What happens to it when it gets in an accident? If the car has dirt and debris under it, what is the risk to people/property around it when the trusters turn on?

10 years from their initial offering of the roadster, I'd like to see them release a well functioning, cool looking car. Why are they spending time/energy trying to make it fly?

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:23PM (#50124958)
I saw the pictures but it wasn't clear to me that it was empty. I certainly saw comments saying it was. It looked like it was flat.

Re:Do dentists know what they're doing? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:14AM (#50102555)
Yeah it took me a few tries to find a dentist I trust in my city. Mine were not as bad, but I suspect my last one filled a couple imaginary cavities.
Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @03:16PM (#50077093)
I was watching stuff on my Chromecast 4k or whatever. That occasionally stutters or frameskips, so I moved to my PS5 pro.

The PS5 pro has plenty of horsepower. Fewer problems, but I see it occasionally skip or freeze slightly when playing back from some providers.

I've read Apple TV somehow has this figured out, and since I expected a new model I've been waiting for this one. It's not cheap but I want to be able to stream TV/film without any of those issues. I'm not quite ready to go the super premium route by getting a kaleidescape. I also want to use the bluetooth functionality from time to time.

Re:Ask HN: What're You Reading? on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @06:53PM (#49901917)
Yeah, I wouldn't say it's bad... but it's not for me. did not finish.
I think there's a business there, for sure, but the markup is definitely a problem for some. I think below a certain order volume it might be hard to get enough delivery people at the ready. As they ask customers to absorb more of the cost the volume could drop. If they don't have enough delivery people then that adds to the delivery time which makes it less and less worth it, at least to me.

I really dislike the unreliable delivery times. 99% of the time I just use the apps, or more likely the restaurant's site, to place the order and pick it up myself.

I have the time to do this though, so maybe it's more valuable to busier people, like parents.

Maybe just run on an A18Pro instead of one of the M processors. If you're not needing a screen, I think the actual box could be quite small too. Maybe the size of an iPhone. One or two USB ports.

I guess you could build it into a keyboard if you wanted to, but I don't like the apple keyboards so that would be a downside for me.
