To add to this, Davinci Resolve is also great freemium software IMO

Re:Acorn – Use Laravel Inside WordPress on Monday August 26, 2024 @04:40PM (#41361860)
Having used acorn (via roots sage) on a project recently I'd say on balance it does improve working with Wordpress. I wouldn't describe it as a nice experience though.
Re:Grav is a modern open-source flat-file CMS on Monday July 17, 2023 @06:38AM (#36756313)
I've incidently just completed a headless statamic project that used Astro for the frontend. I'd recommend you check out Astro if you haven't already as dev experiece was great and generally feels a better fit for this usecase over next.
There's plenty of vans that don't have any rear windows
I've found that at some point, the most efficient way to express what you want is to write the code yourself. Anything where you can express what you want fairly easily seems to be where it excels.
Oh wow... it was reading this comment that made me realise it's not called 'TimeTrain'.
Re:Ask HN: Hourly billers, do you bill for only focused work? on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @01:35PM (#33613101)
Personally I bill by the day and occasionally by half days. I consider 4 hours of focused work to be a full day.

Same! Weirdly remember this programme more than most. The episode where it stops working until the dad cleans it specifically!
Re:Show HN: Kitchen Renovation ideas using Stable Diffusion on Monday October 10, 2022 @11:42AM (#33152821)
One thing I'd say as a UI/Web designer is that often you are responding to a unique set of requirements to a specific brand / use case / functionality. I can 100% see how tools like this will influence and redefine the idea phase of a project but at the moment I can't see how it will make the leap from something that looks like a fuzzy representation of an end product to something that IS the end product.
Re:Ask HN: What game do you wish existed? on Wednesday May 25, 2022 @11:35AM (#31506035)
Short games. I'm sure there's plenty I don't know but I would love to play games designed for 1-4 hours play. I just get bored of longer games as they inverably they just get repetative. Games that boast hours and hours of gameplay are generally very boring IMO.

For reference, 'Limbo' is the kind of game that fits the length of game I'm describing.

Re:Ask HN: Using Web Components in 2022? on Monday May 16, 2022 @07:35AM (#31395731)
Yeah you're right, I just meant that Lit was the framework I'd been looking at specifically as a means of building Web Components

Ask HN: Using Web Components in 2022?

I'm starting a new client project which more or less boils down to a typical brochure website. For the last few years however I've mostly worked on React SPAs. During this time I've really enjoyed the React component model and certain aspects of CSS in JS which I feel I'm going to miss when working on the new project. As a result I've been doing some cursory exploration into web components...

Re:The problem with Bitcoin miners on Sunday May 15, 2022 @05:46PM (#31391458)
Yes but once there's no longer the financial insentive of bitcoin rewarded for mining, fees need to have the same insentive relative to bitcoin market cap? Otherwise double spending becomes the most profitable for miners surely.
Re:The problem with Bitcoin miners on Sunday May 15, 2022 @05:22PM (#31391269)
What I don't understand though is once all bitcoins have been mined, doesn't that mean that transaction fees are then also required to be proportional to the bitcoin market cap and electricity usage value?

Same! I'm actually going this year... last time was 2010!
Re:Comparative Illusion on Tuesday February 08, 2022 @02:43AM (#30255874)
'More people' needs to be compared to a differenet group but the use of 'they' means the 'more people' are being compared to themselves.

Which Hotline client are you using out of interest? I have nostalgic memories of using Hotline as a teenager and just assumed all clients are now dead in the water.

I’m using an online yoga studio service ( https://supply.yoga ) which definitely goes someway to filling the void of a physical yoga studio.
I've been looking at bolt cms recently which looks quite nice. Definately would have a look if simple blog functionality is all you need.
Mistake of judgement sure, programming mistake not so much.
I was kind of being silly but I do think there's a certain type of film that is particularly enjoyable when hungover. Usually a fairly basic action film that's not too taxing on the brain with plenty of visual stimulus!
