agree - couldn't watch the pitch part as it was just too much noise

stop motion part was impressive though

Please god no, too much already :)
Gold isn't going to save you from a zombie apocalypse, nor can you eat it. It will however transport your wealth from one side of a currency crisis to the other while retaining value - as opposed to plastic notes with arbitrary numbers of zeros printed on them.

My 9yo son is willing to give you his life savings of $41.56 to have an at home kit of this machine :)

I've played with OpenCV and tried for fun to train a HAAR cascade classifier to recognise a minifigure. It didn't work which made me realise one has to really understand under the hood of machine learning like this in order to give it good training data.

Kudos. Very, very impressive.

Re:Chocolatey โ€“ package manager for Windows on Thursday March 17, 2016 @06:11AM (#11303493)
I looked at chocolatey a few years back and decided I didn't like installing anonymously packaged software on my machine.

Recently my team started using it for cloud formation app deployment and I see it has reviewed and approved packages now.

I was also under the misaprehension that chocolatey packages contained binaries but they typically download from the software makers site at install time - so no binary interference to inject nasties by package authors.

Have to say I'm impressed with the updates to security and will look into using it privately as a result.

Thanks for your work!

Re:Running ASP.NET 5 on Lego Mindstorms EV3 on Friday November 20, 2015 @06:03AM (#10600653)
this is exactly right. It isn't confused as parent says. They are no longer forcing js packages to be bundled into nuget where they tend to grow stale. The nuget angular package was actually maintained by scott hanselman. Why duplicate the effort when angular is published by the angular team on bower?

Instead of reinventing the wheel, they are leaning heavily on existing OSS that already does the job very well. eg: No more bundling in MVC, that is what gulp/grunt tasks do for the non MS world, so use that too.

No more MSTest which is a poor clone of Nunit, XUnit is the default tool and is used for all ASP.NET internal framework tests.

Re:UK inflation rate turns negative on Tuesday May 19, 2015 @07:49AM (#9569330)
agree but would add even the mattress and metal hoarders serve a purpose in signalling that the offer of risk vs reward in current interest rates needs adjustment. This is all distorted however since the central banks keep their hand on rates and decide what the market should accept for the risk lending savings to the bank (depositing).

Re:UK inflation rate turns negative on Tuesday May 19, 2015 @07:40AM (#9569282)
My understanding is that a real deflation would crash the current financial system. Savers in fiat are paid interest from money created from debtors taking loans. In a deflation, the volume of money is reduced. Debtors instead of having their debts inflated away, have their real debts increased. Triggering defaults, triggering destruction of money, triggering further deflation. Savers don't win by having hoards of cash since their assets are the liabilities of the defaulting debtors - which are going up in puffs of smoke.

For this reason, central banks will run interest rates down to juice more inflation....oh wait...they are already at near zero...

some hilarious comments there now
Re:How to nuke a submarine on Tuesday December 02, 2014 @04:45AM (#8686383)
it was actually the nazis they were scared of. they thought Germany might make an atomic bomb and win WWII. There was discussion about giving the Russian's the secrets to prevent an arms race. Churchhill vetoed it though.
Re:Japan Falls into Recession on Monday November 17, 2014 @05:39AM (#8617622)
It is more about currency deflation rather than price deflation. Without currency inflation the current system collapses.

Price inflation is from currency inflation - ie: more $ around today chasing approximately the same number of goods than yesterday. Agreed?

When currency deflates, there are less dollars chasing those goods so dollars are harder to come by and prices necessarily decrease to allow the remaining dollars to cover the goods being exchanged. Yes goods 'get cheaper' in dollars. That's just a side show and not the problem.

So what happens to debtors in a currency deflation? Dollars are harder to come by, debts cannot be repaid and debts default. Debt default is the destruction of currency. More deflation. Positive feedback.

Savers today save in dollar accounts which rely on debtors to pay back their debts. With debt collapse, so goes bank assets (debt) and now their liabilities (savings accounts) outweigh their assets which makes them insolvement.

Debtors crushed. Banks collapse. Savers crushed. Credit disappears. Systemic financial collapse.

If today's savers didn't save in bank accounts for the promise of more dollars tomorrow then we wouldn't have this problem. Save in fine art and collectibles, save the world.

someone here recommended this book a month or so ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Making_of_the_Atomic_Bomb

I'm about halfway through, well worth the (long!) read.

yes, having incredible wealth would draw a lot of unwanted attention. The Rothschild's had their wealth confiscated at least once through nationalisation of banks they owned.

It's best to lie low and disguise crazy wealth as much as possible.

I've been watching "how it's made" tv series with my kids. That has been an eye opener on where there are lots of people doing things I assumed (ignorantly) would be automated Helps me be less of a tight ass too knowing how much manual labour is in some things!
