Netgate (behind pfSense) use PHP for their firewall administration interface.

They recently posted about how to patch their software from the command-line (https://www.netgate.com/blog/critical-php-security-update)

KOReader [1] is my favorite reader. Pairs well with my syncthing library of ebooks (I just keep the phone's copy in read-only mode).

I've taken StreetComplete with me on walks around my neighborhood and on a few vacations. It was really easy to submit data for missing items.
On a Rubiks cube, the center tile always remains constant. I was surprised at this when I accidentally broke one apart to find a static 3d cross piece to each cube face (e.g. a non-moving tile). Everything else rotates around it

Thanks for pointing out ReManager. After moving to the Move, I've sorely missed my handful of toltec packages (koreader, etc.).
Re:Making difficulty curves in games on Saturday August 08, 2026 @11:10PM (#49228076)
Left 4 Dead handled this pretty well in my opinion (i.e. mob spawning behind if you're playing too slowly or a tank in front if you're going too quick). I absolutely hated the dynamic adjusting in games like Mario Kart, though.

Or Descent. Pity the fool who hits the map key mid-multiplayer fight.

This short story was scarier to me as a kid than anything else I read at the time.
I couldn't toggle any filter earlier. Now I'm able to
Re:Migrating from Proxmox to NixOS and Incus on Friday June 26, 2026 @08:59PM (#48694035)
It's something very new (I think as of the 9.2 version?). I haven't tried it because I don't have quite the need to let it do it's own thing yet.
None of the filtering is working for me. Same with search.

kubuntu26.04 Tried in latest Firefox and latest Chromium

At $DAYJOB, we use the Telmate terraform proxmox provider, too. Upgrades over the years have had a few papercuts (mainly when values are shifted around), but it has overall been an immense timesaver. A terraform repo contains the 2 colocation datacenter proxmox environments plus a local lab edition of the same builds (locallab uses containers vs full VM's on the "real" hardware so that I can run almost all of the configuration on my laptop). Saltstack gets deployed during the buildouts, which picks up the OS/ application configuration after the OS is deployed.

No agentic stuff on our stack, as our security posture can't afford that currently.

As for the load-balancing, I think the later versions have supported targeting proxmox clusters vs a single node, and the newest Proxmox can do resource auto-balancing. That might get you what you need

Ha, a Wikipedia article link to Zenzizenzizenzic was on HN earlier today! I don't think I would have gotten that one right otherwise.

Speaking of modules that lie about themselves, unifi has an interesting little device called the "SFP Wizard" that can reprogram sfp modules.

If you're not opposed to card games, Five Crowns [1] is a house staple in both sides of my family. It will require multiple people.

Sagrada [2] is a fun game as well. Can be played solo, but I find it more fun with others.

Mine was on a similar game, GORILLA.BAS. I would edit the banana code for a much bigger explosion. Lots of fun back in computer class!

Re:Atlassian Enables Default Data Collection to Train AI on Monday April 20, 2026 @12:38PM (#47836798)
I made this a while back to move us off our on-prem Atlassian to Gitlab [1]. Maybe it'll help someone if they want something similar. Fair warning: I haven't tried this recently, so YMMV.

Microsoft lost my 80yr old aunt and my two under teenager kids. My last hold-out at home is my son's laptop, which he needed Windows for a proctered exam (now completed). He's excited to soon be on the same OS as his other family members.

Was the utility called slomo? I recall having to do something like `slomo sopwith.exe` to bring the processing loop back down into human ranges of reaction times.
Re:From Proxmox to FreeBSD and Sylve in Our Office Lab on Monday March 30, 2026 @02:09PM (#47577704)
We run Proxmox VMs that are running Hashicorp's Nomad orchestration at $DAYJOB. The Nomad clients are then turning around and running the docker containers (Proxmox -> Nomad VM -> Docker). For us it's easier to manage and segregate duties on the initial metal this way.
Re:Make macOS consistently bad (unironically) on Friday March 27, 2026 @05:10PM (#47548286)
I just installed Kubuntu last week so I could get the additional shift-drag targets to split my 34" ultrawide into 3 sections, or bump to the edges for the half filled.
Was working on a rebuild of my gaming rig when I noticed the NexusMods repository marked as read-only by the author.

Their Trello board [1] for their roadmap also seems to be gone.
