Still, I don't have the impression this was happening under Jobs. He would still had 2 guys in there, updating the chip in the Mini right now.
Total neglect of 60% of their products (Mac pro, Mac Mini), and ditching complete other productlines (Cinema displays, Routers) at the same time, is unprecedented...
I really think Cook is messing it up. Especially not even having the option of a regular keyboard on a 15" MBP, is almost insulting.
Is this still a sideproject for you? Or is it profitable enough to work on this full time?
Comments like this one, you're reading now, are really worth it.
It's crazy Apple can't get basic funtionality like this right. Like on the web in 2001.
How about only sending a screenshot on page changes?
That's very true, you have to 'connect' to the machine.
The replacement apps list does not look very appetising though :)
Just big shots changing chairs.
Have a bunch of good domains in my portfolio and this article is just crap.
Content is king, and always will be.
Also, even his first example is inadequate, I would actually have chosen the Spanish sounding website, when going to Spain.
Me too, waiting for the new one to become available.
Yeah try ordering anything from Lenovo on your iPad... their site is buggy as hell. I mean, how much effort can it take to clean it up?
Didn't know that feature. Thanks!
Nice way of punishing paying users ;)
This is the reason to support Pixelmator and Sketch.
It just depends where you are located most of the time yourself.
Besides landing on a page from a quality paper The Guardian with a popunder banner at the bottom and a normal banner on the right (quite intrusive). This article confirmed my suspicions: MS making great hardware but is still not quite there yet.
Do you have some in Pivot mode?

from the ask-hn dept.
I was wondering: how many computers do you guys have, and :- Do you have a workstation and a laptop?- Or just a laptop?- Or just a workstation? When it comes to laptops: which model/brand?When it comes to workstations: how many monitors?
I wonder this too, because on our servers, which are running WHM/Cpanel, they're all running on CentOS and it seems to work very well. I'm on macOS privately.
But yeah, for some reason, on our servers, it seems to work solid, but here it's not very liked as dev distro.
For Amazon: just apply with another, more content-related blog (for example, your personal blog). And once you're "in" you just add to laptophits.com to it as well. They only vet for initial accounts.
I have an old site that's been making good money of amazon affiliate (for 5-7 years now). I re-applied with that same site, with another, new, affiliate account, and it got rejected. So their whole approval procedure seems quite arbitrary.
How does one get started on this? I have a few "bot ideas" myself but wouldn't know where to start.
It's not quite "hip", but a dedicated server on OVH is pretty sweet. Their WHM/cpanel licences are cheap about 25/month. And you can then run MANY websites/projects all under the same umbrella, instead of each time starting over again with a barebone Digital Ocean droplet/Linode, etc. Plus, you got full power.
Unless you're running some SaaS project, that really needs to be able to scale rapidly -- this is to me still a very solid, simple, worry-free solution.
Btw: with OVH, it comes with 500gb FTP backup, you can add backups to a secondary HD, and you can add other offsite backups, as Amazon S3. Plus, they have a great IP policy, for just a one-time $2, you can get additional IP's, without recurring costs, up to 256 per server: and localised. So you can have 10 USA IP's and 20 Norwegian IP's and 10 Czech IP's all on the same server.
I don't think it's hate - at all, it's rather: dissapointment. So far, Apple didn't do anything malicious or evil, they just majorly underperformed to our audience.
The buck stops at not offering a 15" Macbook Pro WITHOUT the touchbar. Heck: they could even charge the same price for with and without -- I wouldn't care.
But not even offering the option of having a normal keyboard with function keys... that's just ignorance.
The shift is the pure neglect towards the dev community. Something that most likely would not have happened so blatant and fast under Jobs. It is also completely not necessary that making great phones excludes a company from making at least decent upgrade cycles in their computer hardware.
Why should one exclude the other?
This is a very clever analysis. Thanks for that, it makes a lot of sense.
It also explains why it's shifted from being a computer company that makes gadgets (Jobs) is now becoming a gadget company that happens to make some computers as well (Cook).
In all this, the gates are wide open for Microsoft to score some good points here towards devs.
Nice, but you could make it alot more accessible with naming it something friendlier, postcardbuddy, or something and have some "cute" logo. Its quite tech geek bare metal now
Looks solid. I like the Snapdragon included.
