If the connector is enabled by the prompt or via a UI interaction, it calls your MCP server. They have created some meta fields your tool can respond with, one of which is something about producing a widget along with a field for html.

In the current implementation, it makes an iframe (or webview on native) that loads a sandboxed environment which then gets another iframe with your html injected. Your html can include meta field whitelisted remote resources.

Fully charged show did an episode on this car (or maybe just this era.) either way, I found it interesting to see the similarities in design to todays evs considering how early so many of these concepts were.

I would like to see comparisons for things in the same price category too. Especially for something like usb-c cables where it's hard to know if you are just paying for a brand or actual quality.

Most of the time when you buy Apple you are buying a better engineered product and maybe these scans are just proving that it's actually hard to match their quality for the price.

Re:The Midwit Smart Home on Thursday October 12, 2023 @01:51PM (#37860472)
Exact same thought here but with their Caseta lineup. It is one of the most easy to configure and reliable smart home things I have in the house.

I still use HA on a RPi4 for other things, typically via Zigbee, but the Casetas always work like you'd expect from a light switch while also enabling smart stuff like voice control or automations.

Couldn't agree more. I have no problem paying for tools, especially when they will save me time.

That said, don't I need to know how to use devtools (chrome/ff/safari) to do my job in the first place? It feels like this product is trying to inject itself into a process that isn't super refined but works fine.

The real problem is the dependency it creates. If I only know how to do frontend work with handheld UI controls, then I have to use them and am locked into this product. It doesn't promote me learning the css rules or understanding how to actually fix things, so then I'm back to the devtools and why am I using this?

A bit pessimistic though right? Carbon capture through both natural and engineered methods is a thing that could have more investment/incentive if that were the case which counters the idea that just because CO2 hangs around a long time doesn't mean there's nothing to be done about it.

Obviously, it'd be great to limit the production of more CO2 going forward but I don't believe that everyone will collectively just give up.

Woah, someone else who played this game!

I spent many hours on my PC Jr trying to climb the ranks.

Thanks for making this!

Re:Dropbox Professional on Tuesday October 17, 2017 @02:42PM (#15493577)
You're on Hacker News and your name is "digitalengineer." You're probably not their target customer :)

I have a bunch of friends in the creative space who use dropbox exclusively to share their work. It's a portfolio for them that's easier to update and control what the prospective client sees. Some of them also have a website portfolio (typically a squarespace setup) but they take so much time to build and maintain with fresh work that they end up sending both a link to the website and dropbox for the latest work.

I totally see why Dropbox is doing this, I just wonder if there are enough creatives who use it this way to make them any substantial gains or if the cool kids convinced them this was the most important thing to do.

Re:React-map-gl – React components for Mapbox GL JS on Tuesday August 29, 2017 @02:52PM (#15126677)
Somewhat related, anyone have a good list of drop-in React components organized in categories? I'm thinking of something like iOS Cookies for React Components.
This is probably it. I personally signed up for Robinhood based on this project. I'm already interested in stock trading though so it wasn't that big of a commitment from me but they do have a nice App and signup process compared to other financial trading outfits I've used.
I think the question Steezy was getting at is, yes, those things are great. What kind of ventilation? Can I 3d print in the garage if the door is open? How much air is required to make it safe?

Is there a simple way to lookup a material and make sure you're using the right safety precautions? Most materials seems to carry the "will cause cancer, sometimes, maybe, always" label.

Is there a modern "maker" safety course, covering things like 3d printing, laser cutting, glues and paints, electronics, etc. that I can follow?

Re:Two-factor authentication for Apple ID on Friday April 15, 2016 @07:18PM (#11508343)
Annnnnd I'm locked out of adding this because I couldn't answer my security questions that I definitely never set up (I know this because I never use real information but random words that I save in 1Password if I am forced to make these.) So now I can't add 2 factor to a device that is and has been signed into my iCloud account for months.

Neat.

Re:Smartwatches and the three-second rule on Friday March 25, 2016 @08:07PM (#11363708)
If you are using iOS 8 on the iPhone 4, make sure you turn on "reduce motion" and turn on "reduce transparency" in settings > accessibility > increase contrast. That alone made my iPad 2 go from garbage unusable, to, ok.

Transparency and blur effects seem to be the culprit for most slowness on older devices.

"I chose X so to validate my choice I will tell you why Z is the worst!"

It happens everywhere. Some get more caught up in it (Video Game console, iPhone / Galaxy, etc.).

Marketing tries to play into this a bit for free promotion. Make you feel intelligent for choosing them and you're part of a club so you'll spread their gospel.

It's kind of awesome that you can't lock down a style under legal means. It forces everyone to keep moving. It's probably also freeing to know that when you design something, you aren't going to be ripped apart because you were also inspired by some past design.

That said, it sucks for the designers who actually start the trend. What would be cool is if you, as a designer, could register your design just for the credit. That way, when the indie designer is looking for investment or a job, they can definitively say "I was the one who ... "

How do you see yourself stacking up against Rollbar https://rollbar.com which has a free tier and unlimited users for paid plans? What makes your product more valuable?
Re:3D reproduction of TSA master keys on Monday September 14, 2015 @02:51PM (#10216738)
Is there such a device that you can put in your luggage that video records the contents and and towards where the person opening it would be standing?

Is it illegal to record someone going through your stuff? I mean, if they are just looking through it to ensure the safety of everyone, why can't I ensure the safety of my stuff?

I think that's because they know the white collar criminal is going to have access to a good lawyer and they need a more solid case. If many of the charges end up being false, you are going to cast doubt on the whole case
Doesn't reporting stats from this leak imply you have the data or access to it? I was under the impression that it was illegal to have this.

I would enjoy seeing the same with Hacker News. It would be interesting to see how affiliation with Y Combinator influences the vote.
Backblaze seems so forward thinking with the hardware, but if you've ever tried to restore a file using their web interface, it's an exercise in frustration.

If you want to pull a single file, you'll be navigating through a windows 95'esq tree. They store snapshots, but if you want to change the snapshot, you wait a minute for each while it loads. Even going back to a snapshot you were just looking at, you wait the whole load time.

Now if you actually need to restore something. You can download a zip file. They will only let you make the zip file so big, so you have to break up your restore into multiple zip files. You will have to do that manually, there is no way to have BB auto-generate the parts for you. These are zip files and not one of the many archive formats that allow for parts.

Besides that, you will need double the amount of storage to recover this data since you'll need to store the zip and the extracted backup.

The way around this is to pay BB to put the data on a USB drive (flash up to 128GB or external up to 4TB) at $99 and $189 respectively. A 128GB external usb on Amazon, first result is $120. They actually won't give you a 4TB unless your restore needs it, but the price is still $189. Labor I guess? According to their own FAQ, you will wait 2-3 days for them to ship these drives, so hopefully you don't need that restore anytime soon.

I really liked Backblaze up to the point I needed to use it for it's real purpose. It seems like nobody at BB cares about the restore process or that it doesn't sell new subscriptions.

--

Also, maybe someone from BB can explain why the secure.backblaze restore website loads tracking pixels from googleads.g.doubleclick, a.triggit, s.adroll, facebook, ads.yahoo,x.bidswitch, ib.adnxs and idsync.rlcdn. Are you selling my need for a new harddrive or something?

I have definitely noticed happier clients after offering a day rate. Not just for budget, but it can help some clients feel better about knowing "when".
Re:Introducing Pebble Time on Tuesday February 24, 2015 @08:02PM (#9104692)
I don't understand how this many people are supporting a new version. Anyone I've talked to who bought one was extremely disappointed with the product.

I had one to work on some prototypes about a year ago and it was nothing but frustration. Bad documentation, scattered, outdated already.. Getting code running on it was painful and most ideas were very limited by the watch abilities.

To top it off, the ios application to sync notifications was a complete joke. Bluetooth is pretty typically bad about staying connected, but the Pebble should win an award for how frustratingly often it would drop. To get it back, you must open the app or repair.

Beginning to end, a very poor experience. I get the design being pretty poor on the first version, but it seems like they didn't work very hard to fix that for v2.

Maybe I just happen to meet the only people who had these problems too, and every other person who bought one was very happy, but I'm honestly baffled.

How many products are there in the world that cannot be refined?

Just because a new version or refinement exists, does not invalidate the usefulness of the original, nor does it mean the original users were guinea pigs.

Now when a product has zero utility in it's first version, that's different. But I would argue you should demand your money back at that point.

Re:Dash now available on iOS on Friday November 14, 2014 @12:48PM (#8608401)
I didn't say that you couldn't , I said that you shouldn't
I uploaded a .NEF and in the usage panel it shows I'm using 0 bytes of my 5GB and 1 photo of my unlimited photo storage.

I have nothing else on my cloud drive.

While not on that list, it seems raw files are supported

All I see is "IE Technical Preview" and when I try to connect "Please wait for user profile service" Anyone else getting that?

This highlights why I prefer to just have these as local virtual machines. When I'm working on a project and I need to do an IE pass, I don't want to rely on this server being available. Even things like BrowserStack, which are definitely nice, have been super laggy right when I happen to need them. Not to mention that you can't really gauge performance over a connection like this.

I do like the Modern IE iso's they are providing now though. Paired with Parallels, it's one click to download and initialize a new Windows/IE combo, and it lasts for (30?) days

Re:Nixie – Wearable camera that can fly [video] on Monday October 13, 2014 @01:27PM (#8449613)
I found it so awkward they chose that scenario as the first. They weren't doing anything but taking a selfie. Maybe if they were running, playing with a dog, throwing a frisbee, anything other than just grip and grinning for the camera?
Can you substantiate that claim?
