I think we hugged it to death.

Apple/Google has effectively made notification worthless because they allow services to abuse notifications. I wish they respected my time/attention more.
Mine works, what are you talking about?
Re:Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @11:43AM (#46797782)
Your first gripe kind of sounds like DLP software is installed on the system and it is scanning files you're "accessing".
Re:House vote keeps federal "kill switch" vehicle mandate on Friday January 23, 2026 @02:11PM (#46736461)
Depends on where you live. I live in the sticks. 2 hour rides to the store on a windy road isn't really viable.

Moreover, time is a limited resource. Even adding 15 minutes here and there take away time I would have to spend with family, work on a project, etc.

I don’t buy that for a second. Governments always want more control, and this is just another way for them to get it.
> Workers have complained of chemical burns from the waste material generated by the tunneling process, and firefighters must decontaminate their equipment after conducting rescues from the project sites. The company was fined more than $112,000 by Nevada’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration in late 2023 after workers complained of “ankle-deep” water in the tunnels, muck spills and burns.

I think we can do a little better while still reaping the improvements garnered by tunneling.

Because they can.
> This company's incompetence killed 346 people

It wasn't incompetence, it was greed. They said "no new training for pilots" in order to keep sales volume up and to ensure no new training they kept the MCAS system a secret from pilots.

Think of the shareholders though /s

In all seriousness though, what can be done? It appears that Boeing has to much power in their relationship with the FAA.

I don't want snap, ever. It is really annoying to have to disable it on Ubuntu. I don't think it would be as bad if they didn't hijack apt to install what they think should be a snap.
Don’t confuse the wasabi that we get in the States for actual wasabi. Nicer restaurants will have it, but you’ll probably have to ask for it.
Why are people still using Google services? They take your money and disappear when you need any help. Only way to actually get support is to know someone who knows someone or get enough social media support to have an engineer see it.

I de-Googled a couple of years ago and haven't looked back.

Re:Retro.directory on Thursday November 30, 2023 @04:34PM (#38479509)
It is getting hugged to death. It is a map with locations of retro computing/gaming points of interests. Think arcades, bars, shops. Really cool idea. Going to use this to find cool places to checkout in places I visit from now on.
I understand why municipalities want these facilities connected to the internet. However, I can't understand why it is allowed. We really need to take the security of our critical infrastructure seriously.
It feels like they waited a long time to post an advisory for an exploit that was being actively used by threat actors, more than a week after they pushed a fix to their repositories. Why not give customers a heads up prior? At least give your users a fighting chance.
I stopped used Google search two years ago. I switched to DDG and I have never felt the need to switch back. I just want search, I don't need my search engine to anticipate me. I want to type in a query and get results, maybe modify my query and try again. I really feel that Google search has lost its way and it is sad to see, but I guess money talks and search doesn't make them money.
I agree with him. After having a car with CarPlay, I can't imagine going back to the user experience that car companies offer. I tried the standard Bluetooth experience in my car and it is abysmal. Nothing works right, who wants to go back to that?

They article show DJI. I know the local PD's in my area are also using DJI.

Jeff is great. I always look forward to seeing his videos on YouTube. I’m really happy for him and his success.

What happened to her is tragic. However, I don’t think warnings or age verification would change anything. Kids are going to do things regardless if there is a warning or age verification system.

I think the best thing we can do for our children is talk to them, and to start talking to them early.

The Escapist is an online magazine covering games and the gaming industry. Zero Punctuation was a weekly series by reviewer Yahtzee Croshaw. ZP is a video essay given in the format of no punctuation. It has been around for a long time and probably was the only thing keeping The Escapist afloat for a while.
Re:Introduc ing the .ing top-level domain on Wednesday November 01, 2023 @06:12PM (#38106057)
They're adding ".mov" too. Freaking amazing from a threat actor's point of view.
Re:Show HN: Halloween game to show off my new Terminal on Wednesday November 01, 2023 @12:05PM (#38100246)
Yes, it was.
