Was in London last month and toured Lord's Cricket Ground. That experience got me to watch some test and ODI matches between England and Australia on ESPN3.com. Strange for an American with no Commonwealth ties!
Re:All O'Reilly Ebooks 50% off today

60% for orders over $100, which they only do a few times a year. Beneficial if ordering higher priced books from other publishers like Morgan Kaufmann or Newnes, which I took advantage this morning.

My HP-42S calculator is 23 years old and I keep it at home than bring it anywhere as it can be snatched easily and sell on eBay for 3x the original price!

Had a similar experience at Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington, NY (Long Island) when I visited my mom for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. The lady at the kiosk selling something similar gave me a sample and pestered me to buy a package. Don't remember the excuse I gave for not buying, maybe pointing out I was from out-of-town or just wasn't interested.
Haven't had any problems with other mall kiosks with such sales pitches, so it appears those selling "Dead Sea skin care" products may be in some network where vendors are given a consistent method of selling.

Interesting that I once purchase $50 of AppSumo credit for $25 and ended up using most of it to purchase a 3-year Hacker Monthly subscription as most of the stuff on sale didn't appeal to me!

Re:Canada’s vanishing tech sector

Saw a post in Engineer Blogs recently, http://engineerblogs.org/2012/07/wtf-17-seditious-traitor/, which was written from a Canadian who decided to move to China to seek out tech opportunities. Kind of wondering if Canada's tech industry with RIM and Nortel is like Detroit in general with the auto industry - as the big companies go, so does everything else.

Re:Why Quit? Because the other company has bigger monitors.
on Thursday May 17, 2012 @09:58PM (#3990062)
I think the monitors thing only matters if it's applied consistently, such as getting the biggest/latest/greatest when starting or when requested by the employee for a work reason. If the company doesn't give that to you in the first place but does when you are pressured to get a project done, that's not valuing you - that's desperation. The previous department head in my company has resorted to something similar and that was a complete turn-off as it was more about his ass being saved than caring for his people.
