Terra Carta :) Autocorrect, perhaps?

Congrats! We use WorkOS and they have saved us tons of time in both engineering and support cases. We frequently have customers compliment us on how easy it is to configure SAML and SCIM, but it's really WorkOS's wizard that they are complimenting :)

I learned a lot about how to debate more constructively second-hand from my business partner who took the class referenced here [1]. The “crossing the net” tool was especially helpful to me once I started actively noticing how often I did it. Really trying to follow that forced me to ask better questions to understand where my views differed and why. All 5 tips are good areas to reflect on and experiment with, though.

I've remapped my caps lock key to act as ctrl and it makes using these shortcuts much easier.

Thanks, that was really interesting! Why switch from Thrift / TChannel to gRPC?

The Washington Post has been profitable for the last two years. Bezos isn’t propping it up, he just helped them transition to a new business model.

How do you make up a loss by not charging sales tax?
Awesome, thanks! We're using this too, but have been thinking about making the switch to https://github.com/rails/webpacker
Are you using Webpack directly with Rails? I'm curious how your development environment works.
Drivers on Uber are contractors. Isn't it each driver's choice to decide if they want to strike or not?

I wouldn't be surprised if it feels random because it is loaded after a network request with variable timing checks to see if you have the pro version or not.

For payroll taxes they could also just pay 7.5% less and net take-home pay would be similar for drivers.

The real draw of independent contractors is the reduction in capital expenditures. They don't need to buy and service cars or pay for mileage. Paying for standby time is also probably prohibitively expensive.

$707m is their cut of the money that they process. I think it was approximately $24bn of money that went through the system.
Re:Android M Developer Preview and Tools on Thursday May 28, 2015 @09:00PM (#9622131)
I think the way to think about it is Google is doing what it does best: search. They use whatever content they can scrape from the screen using the view hierarchy once the user signals intent that they want to search. It's a faster way to do search using context (in this case the screen) to provide the "keywords". The app indexing part is how they are able to show related apps with deep links. They use app indexing of other apps to find relevant results for the query.

App indexing makes sense when you have more stable content inside of an app like a traditional public website. Think Yelp and their 'screen' per place inside of the app. It doesn't make sense to publish the contents of a chat conversation to Google's app index -- that would be a huge privacy leak! It would be the equivalent of GoogleBot indexing my Gmail inbox.

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/05/android-ms-google-now... makes it seem like they just walk the view hierarchy. They show examples of using this in a chat app, which makes less sense to be found via app indexing.
Re:The Apple Watch on Tuesday September 09, 2014 @04:08PM (#8292627)
Thanks! I was trying to figure out why the Watch looks thick from the side, but seemed not too thick in photos on peoples' wrists. That explains it.
The difference is that for iBeacon to track devices the user has to download an app related to the beacons and give permission. MAC address tracking happens without the user giving consent.
