What's going on with Dreamhost lately? Is it falling apart?
Re:Challenge Is Gone on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:50AM (#50231576)
You write well, why not challenge yourself to write a book?

Assuming you didn't use AI for more than spelling

How did these animals survive as a species for millions of years with this flip-over bug in their genes? Why hasn't evolution solved it, for example, by eliminating flip-prone individuals from the gene pool and giving better survival chances to those who can right themselves?
Only someone who has never been to an actual museum can call this thing a museum, let alone the "last one."
Re:Why Is Israel Running TV Ads in Iowa Ahead of the Midterms? on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @12:04AM (#50175961)
At the same time, the US president is interfering in the elections in Israel.
Low EV adoption will lead to much more death and suffering due to climate change. So, sure, it's not the ideal way to achieve this result, but it's better than the alternative.
Re:Ask HN: What're You Reading? on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @06:45PM (#49901851)
Currently listening to I Am a Strange Loop by Douglas Hofstadter. A fascinating exploration of consciousness written 20 years ago but very relevant in the age of AI.
I'm driving along Route 66 now, and $80 is about the average for a decent motel room.

Are "3,000 new jobs" enough to make a dent though?
Re:The Golden Rule for Becoming a Better Writer on Sunday August 23, 2026 @10:03AM (#49408944)
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig, especially if you're into philosophical thinking. The way he blends it with a compelling narrative is masterful.
Re:In South Korea, some savour last season of legal dog meat on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @03:47PM (#49366289)
Absolutely right. Pigs, for example, are not less intelligent or affectionate than dogs.

It's more than 6%. Cows eat a lot, so people cut forests to grow more feed (like in the Amazon). Deforestation contribute to global warming, not to mention the biodiversity damage.
Do you vote? Why?
Plenty of people (including me) are vegan, healthy, and happy. As omnivores above the poverty line, we can all make conscious and conscientious choices about what we eat. Going vegan is one of the most effective ways to combat global warming (if you're not in a position to donate large sums of money toward climate change research or mitigation).

OpenAI API Is Down

It's been down for over 2 hours now and is disrupting my production service. Time to evaluate alternatives, but will they be more reliable?

Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026) on Monday July 13, 2026 @11:22AM (#48894103)
Beautiful. Keep at it!
Is the fact that he was of German descent material to how the events transpired? Not sure why it's even mentioned in the headline.
I wonder if Democrats will have the courage to pursue justice to the fullest if/when they're back in power.
It was astonishing to see the praise heaped on Trump by Israeli citizens and leaders, who believed he was their savior. I wonder if it's going to change now, not because he's giving up on them (which he seems to), but because they have nobody else left to rely on. Constant incoming ass kissing is effective when it comes to him, so their best strategy might be to keep going until he changes his mind again.
AWS has zero value because you can just buy a bunch of servers and rack them. And on and on.
> The US is neither a vassal of Israel nor simply doing its bidding.

This is propaganda as well, only more agreeable to you.

Style nit: the transitions between dark-mode text and large diagrams with a snow white background are jarring.

You might be right; most of the traffic is bot-driven
Re:100 Best Novels of All Time on Sunday May 17, 2026 @03:43PM (#48172550)
I beg to differ. Bob Dylan's poetry impacted me much more. He totally deserved the prize.
