Re:Found Photos: Rarely seen Steve Jobs on Sunday November 08, 2009 @11:53AM (#929431)
yeah, too bad he wants to tear it down and build a new one in its place. I love old 1920s style Stucco homes. They have a hell of a lot more character and style than anything new. It's sad to see the house lived in in those photos and now its derelict and empty and rotting away.
Re:Why I canceled Time Warner Cable on Saturday November 07, 2009 @12:12PM (#928048)
why would anyone vote this comment down? I think this is a good thing, and you can get more than enough entertainment from the net these days anyway.

Who loves Windows 7?

I installed Windows 7 and couldn't be more impressed with it. Seamless and painless installation. As a diehard Mac user, I could live with Windows 7. Who is with me?

I've had no problems with the Samsung components I've purchased. What kinds of problems with Samsung did you have, or are you just spouting off with no data to back your claim?
Re:Be Careful What You Post on Twitter on Tuesday October 13, 2009 @06:54PM (#880281)
this illustrates the biggest problem with the culture in the USA today. people are too god damn sensitive. people "get offended" by something as stupid as a twitter post. twitter, good god! what is next???
Re:The Economist reviews Michael Moore's new film on Sunday October 11, 2009 @06:28PM (#875412)
pretty idiotic reasoning. go back to school bud.
Re:The Economist reviews Michael Moore's new film on Sunday October 11, 2009 @03:54PM (#875162)
sure, you can start and we'll just go down the line.

who CARES what the guys net worth is? Why does it matter? Can not a successful film maker speak for those who are in the down and outs? Just because his films are good, does that make him less worthy to call out the greedy bankers? Who are you, Sean Hannity?!

I find Safari 3 to run very well on Windows, and I've been using it at home lately. It passes the Acid3 test at 100 percent.
Re:Dr. LSD to Steve Jobs: How was your trip? on Thursday July 09, 2009 @03:55PM (#696554)
while a senior in high school myself and my friends took LSD and while it was certainly not lab-grade acid, just street acid, it was a fascinating experience. We repeated it a couple times more and by the end of the third trip, I felt that there was nothing more to learn from it so I stopped. They kept on for a few more years. I read as many books as I could get my hands on from the library, including a fascinating book called "Acid Dreams" which told how LSD was used by the CIA for research into a possible truth serum. While I would not recommend LSD to anyone for recreational purposes now, it is important that we can learn more about how the brain works by having the chance to use LSD as a learning tool. I think it can be used to help people with various disorders, if used by a qualified physician/counselor and in a good safe environment. Cary Grant was an LSD user and he felt it helped him a great deal late in his life.
Re:VLC Media Player 1.0.0 is finally out on Tuesday July 07, 2009 @06:17PM (#692708)
yeah, you get what you pay for. VLC has worked for me when Quicktime would not (to play a movie from a DVD, for example)
Re:Tom Williams: Hired by Apple at 14. His full story. on Monday July 06, 2009 @04:07PM (#690349)
some really great advice at the end of the article, if people like you at work, you'll get supported when you're down and lifted up when you're up. very nice. thanks for the link.
Re:The iPhone 3GS: Should You Get It? on Tuesday June 30, 2009 @02:09PM (#681238)
this is how I feel about my iPhone 3G. Bonus, it doesn't overheat like the 3GS does.
Re:Look at me, I'm skinny on Monday June 29, 2009 @05:41PM (#679740)
it's a great article. lots of will power in there. I like it. I've recently decided to get into a routine as well to try to lose 25 pounds. I'm not fat, but if I can lose 25 pounds I'll be at my target weight. And working out is fun if you get into a habit of doing it regularly. Don't think I could go as far as to stop eating meat, but I am planning to stop drinking beer on weekdays as a start, and most likely stop all together later on this summer. Thanks for sharing the link on HN.
Re:Why We Need Steve Jobs on Friday June 26, 2009 @02:19PM (#675819)
well I was 15 years old when my dad bought our Mac, the Mac 512k. I thought it was a brilliant design, it easily fit on a desktop, was portable from room to room, it had a gorgeous display (compared to other computers at the time), and it came with a good word processing (MacWrite) app and a fun graphics app (MacPaint). I think making the computer small made it easier to approach for a lot of other people. You know, less intimidating. I've read quite a few books about the Mac, and they had their eyes on IBM, not Atari, as their primary competitor. And I think we have to credit Jef Raskin for a lot of the design decisions, after all, he was the one who started the Macintosh project in the first place, although his original vision for it was more like a netbook than what it eventually became. I still have my Mac Plus at home, sitting in a box, and it still works perfectly as it has since 1989 when I got it before entering university. It's the same form factor as the original Macintosh, and it's a design icon in the computer world.
Re:Time Wastes Too Fast on Friday June 26, 2009 @12:42PM (#675626)
This is art and history combined, it's wonderful. This seems like a format worth developing more, it could make learning about history easier for kids (heck, and adults too).
Re:Outlook’s broken—Let’s fix it on Wednesday June 24, 2009 @02:51PM (#672551)
so don't use Outlook. problem solved.
Re:Why We Need Steve Jobs on Wednesday June 24, 2009 @11:56AM (#672274)
Macintosh GUI was pioneered at Xerox PARC, not at Apple. But Steve was smart enough to see the value in it and bring it into the marketplace with the Lisa. The Lisa flopped, and over in another building there was a team developing Macintosh. Steve got involved and the rest is history.
Re:Fake Steve Jobs returns on Tuesday June 23, 2009 @06:14PM (#671255)
I'm waiting for the fake fake Steve Jobs to return
no fans of electric cars here, I see.
at least we know that money is going to a company that is actually building cars that will run when the oil runs out.
Re:I need your iPhone 3GS serial number on Tuesday June 23, 2009 @01:40PM (#670798)
don't ever give out the serial number of anything you own. it's too easy for a scam artist to report that it was stolen, and now you have to answer to the police and prove you own it.
Re:iPhone 3.0 Released on Wednesday June 17, 2009 @04:13PM (#662403)
smart to wait for a couple of days to weed out any bugs, it's what I plan to do.
Re:Bing gaining momentum? on Wednesday June 17, 2009 @03:08PM (#662295)
and the users of HN think they are so smart and intellectual, that Bing being a simpler word could in no way give it any success. yet this is in fact the case. "Bing it and find out" is brilliant. Why would that comment be voted down other than people who can't understand that? They can't understand so they vote it down. It's called Marketing, folks. Marketing, plain and simple. People are stupid, they gravitate to Simple things, Easy things. Why do you think Microwave dinners are so popular? Nearly have their own entire aisle at the very center of every supermarket in America, because they are Simple and they are very profitable. People like simple things, and Bing is a very simple word to say and write. Go ahead and vote this comment down as well, I could care less. But I am right and everyone who votes it down knows it.
Re:Bing gaining momentum? on Wednesday June 17, 2009 @01:42PM (#662169)
yes, it's easier for people to say and spell the word Bing than it is to say and spell Google. And it is good to give Microsoft some business what with the economy and all. I just wonder what the family of Bing Crosby thinks about all this. "Bing it and find out" is a new catchphrase circulating around.
Re:Does Microsoft's Bing have Google running scared? on Monday June 15, 2009 @03:09PM (#658881)
no
the solution is just don't buy Blu-ray. problem solved.
I have to say that I love using Google Maps to visit different cities. I went to London last fall and was able to see some streets I walked down as well as others that I wanted to walk down but didn't. I can only imagine the street view images will slowly be taken down, until rather than having a nearly continuous street we will have photos here and there and blackness in between. Interesting that all the street view photos have to be re-done in Japan with the camera 18 inches lower to preserve peoples privacy behind residential walls. Wonder if that will be done in the rest of the world. Anyway, it's a really great time waster. Thanks Googlites!
