Here is an article in Norwegian that goes a bit deeper into the grotesque history behind the tradition of saturday sweets:

It's cool to see the website[1] of the startup/dotCom I worked at in the early 2000s captured there! The website won the navigation award at Macromedia's fashforward event, and I still think holds up quite well even over 20 years later. The zoom navigation was quite interesting and worked well on mobile devices like the HP iPAQ PDAs we tested it on.

Re:Show HN: API to detect abusive content in 27 languages on Thursday September 13, 2018 @08:49AM (#17978153)
Yes, I would like to test for Scandinavian languages as there are not many multilingual NLP apis available. Not even Google/Microsoft/AWS has multilingual support.

The error I'm getting is:

  Request Error
  The server encountered an error processing the request. The exception message is 'Invalid JSON string literal format. At line 1, column 1.'. See server logs for more details. The exception stack trace is:

using these parameters:

     'language' => 'en'
  );

Looks interesting, but I couldn't get the code samples to work. Would be good to have all languages available in the demo on the website.
Polyglot [0] is a python multilingual NLP toolkit. The quality is not great, but it supports a lot of languages.

I would also recommend Steve's Refactoring UI videos on YouTube:

I'm looking forward to testing this out!

I noticed the "NLP classification page" links are broken. I assume they should go to: http://nlp.fast.ai/category/classification.html

Looks great! Check out this award-winning zooming interface from 2001 (requires flash): http://www.andyfoulds.co.uk/sites/relevare/

Maybe it can be of some inspiration!

Thanks! I will try out Magic Lantern!
Re:Dumb Things Camera Companies are Still Doing on Wednesday September 27, 2017 @06:17AM (#15346331)
I have a Canon DSLR and my biggest frustration is with the software. I do a lot of night photography and the longest exposure possible is 30 seconds. To go beyond this you need to buy an external shutter release. It should be a simple thing to add a few more options with longer exposures to the menu.

Also, doing things like HDR or stop-motion can be a pain. Better software or the ability to run apps could solve this.

I've noticed Langid doesn't always work well with short texts, so I'm looking forward to try the Equilid library!
I think Iris.AI [1] already does some of this.

Re:How to Learn Hadoop for Free on Tuesday April 04, 2017 @02:42AM (#14030095)
Is Hadoop/MapReduce still as relevant now as it was a few years ago? What stack would you set up today for a standard Big Data processing system?
On their Facebook page [1] they said they are planning to release models for 294 languages very soon.

I haven't tried it yet, but Spacy has a guide[1] for adding a new languages to their python NLP framework. Maybe it can be of use to you.

Re:“Fake News” dataset on Kaggle on Monday November 28, 2016 @10:11AM (#13055861)
The dataset doesn't contain the article URLs which makes further analysis harder. With the URLs you could look at who is linking to the article or website and use that as an indication of authority.
Re:Visualizing Twitter Connections with D3 and ClojureScript on Friday February 20, 2015 @11:33AM (#9081156)
I've used MooWheel [1] in the past to visualize Twitter connections. It looks quite nice but the library is getting a bit old and it would be good to see a more modern implementation of it. [1] http://labs.unwieldy.net/moowheel/demo/heat.html
Re:Show HN: Language detection as a service on Tuesday November 19, 2013 @11:34AM (#6762284)
I've used detectlanguage.com[1] in the past, which seems like a very similar service to getlang.io. With both of them it is hard to know what is behind the scenes...

Re:Empty London on Sunday November 17, 2013 @12:09PM (#6749668)
Those photos are great! I've been taking some night shots of street art in London, and because of the long exposure the streets often appear to be empty. You can see some of my photos here: http://advers.com/gallery
Re:Girl unaware all her pictures are sent to journalist on Sunday April 28, 2013 @04:25PM (#5622600)
I guess tech-journalists gets to try out quite a few mobile phones through their work.

Would it not be a reasonable scenario that the journalist got to try a phone and used the Google+ app with his account. Upon returning the phone, it wasn't reset properly before being sold on to another person. So the Google+ app could still be associated with the journalist's account when the phone was sold on.

Update: In this article(http://www.dagensit.no/tester/article2355417.ece) the journalist reviews the Sony Xperia S, the very same phone model that the girl uses.

Re:Show HN: StartHQ - a web app directory on Monday March 11, 2013 @03:19PM (#5359001)
A bit of a shameless plug here, but I launched a similar site a few weeks ago: http://applist.io

applist.io is mainly focused on B2B SaaS apps for freelancers and small businesses.

Re:Show HN: B2B SaaS apps on Thursday February 07, 2013 @09:18AM (#5182130)
Hi,

This is a little side-project of mine. The goal of the site is enable freelancers and small businesses to discover new SaaS tools that can help improve their business. Owners of an app can sign in with Twitter to submit an app, or edit their profile page.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Re:Loosecubes is shutting down on Tuesday November 13, 2012 @12:04PM (#4779018)
If they got $7.8M in June then they must have more money in the bank, so does this mean they are going to pivot?
