Isn't it a reasonable assumption that an LLM was involved in helping prepare this attack? §
Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Friday October 30, 2026 @12:30AM (#50299877)
What? How are you gonna communicate with anything without speaking? The LLM will keep showing you videos and you will draw it pictures of what you want?

Re:Trump endorses Netanyahu ahead of Israeli elections on Sunday October 25, 2026 @03:21AM (#50229124)
There's a huge opposition to Bibi's government in Israel and unfortunately the American president is actively colluding in our election and even threatens Israelis - who are generally terrified, that Iran may destroy them and that he probably won't do anything about Iran unless Bibi is re-elected (!).

As for genocide, "Zionist terrorism" etc that's your worldview not how I see reality.

Re:What shall I teach my son? on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:07AM (#50180298)
Don't get me wrong I like that list and agree with everything in it. I just think, as others have said, kids are smart. They pick up on our shit and unfortunately internalize a lot of our values, insecurities, biases, anxieties.

You can't really teach/enable any of that stuff for real without living it yourself and being an example - which is very difficult because most of us weren't really raised that way ourselves, so we're not like that.

I'm not so sure what my point is other than that change is very difficult and raising children is difficult and raising them to be genuinely good people will be very hard without change.

Re:What shall I teach my son? on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @07:17AM (#50179001)
> Parents should focus on enabling their children to be: Curious; Resourceful; Self-reliant (to feel they have agency in the world); Compassionate; Value personal integrity, themselves, their ideas / wishes, and time on the planet; Able to cooperate, communicate, and work as a team; Able to make sacrifices for the future versions of themselves ("I'm having a bad day today, what can I do to make tomorrow me have a better day?"); Able to enjoy life and find fulfillment (however small) even in bad times.

Could be nice to have if the parents knew how to do all that themselves ...

Re: on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:46PM (#50143406)
So , perhaps not a huge shocker but Trump has officialy endorsed Bibi as next prime minister in the upcoming elections. Not only endorsed, he's threatening Israelis things won't be good if they don't choose Bibi:

"If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so"

So, he's threatening Israelis if they don't vote Bibi he's gonna let Israel handle Iran on its own.

I can't express how damaging this is to the chances of replacing Bibi, very difficult moment for those of us in Israel who wanted to see him go - or in the very least wanted to see a neutral election where the leader of the free world doesn't intervene and threaten them to vote Bibi or else.

> You think fully half the population of Israel opposes the current government and the actions of the settlers?

Well we know with a certainty that more than half of Israelis oppose this government by quite a majority, the current government can't get re-elected. As for what Israelis think about the violence in the territories - I don't have numbers but yes I think the vast majority opposes it. It might surprise you but it is being reported on almost daily in the major Israeli news media with an extremely alarmist and negative tone (which it should). Perhaps it's self serving (every Israeli with 2 brain cells understands what this is doing to our reputation and our longterm ability to survive) but I truly believe it just contradicts most Israeli's morals.

You will find very few people say it's cool to attack some elderly reporter or some shepherd kid just tending to his goats. They exist for sure but I don't think they're that many.

BTW I'm even surprised to see opinion pieces by very prominent and quite radical figures in the settlement movement (Hagai Segal, Benzi Lieberman to name a few) calling to stop with this shit.

> This has become beyond ridiculous. I have personally gone from full support for Israel to now not even supporting Israel's right to exist. And I can't be the only one. I feel sorry for the (clearly increasingly rare) "normal" people of Israel but they will soon need to move out of Israel to not be bundled in with the crazies.

Israeli here. This shit is infuriating for me to read and a big shame on all of us but I don't think that's a fair take for all of us to have to "move out" (where to exactly?). Do all Americans need to move out because Trump is in power? Or because what you did in Iraq (twice), in Afghanistan, in Vietnam?

I simply don't think it's a sensible take that a whole populace is evil beyond repair and therefore must be thrown out - I don't know of such an argument ever being applied to any group - not Russia, not Hammas and not even the Nazis.

So ... low?
Re:Hello Toronto – Waymo Is En Route on Saturday October 17, 2026 @12:04AM (#50127818)
Simple: humans are needed for their physical labor (traditionally) or more recently their cognition. We are now automating the cognition part, and it is widely believed physical labor will be automated not that far after that. So what's left ? Most A.I labs mention some form of UBI why do you think they're saying that?
I hear you but maybe not everyone wants this. It sounds great but it's also high investment/high effort and sometimes hurts and disappoints. I think some people are fine with having shallower relationships than that.
> Most people are completely and utterly uninteresting

How do we even define interesting ? Like interesting opinions/hobbies? Good storyteller ? Who cares about that. I do need to like you and you need to be an agreeable person imo, but no having a real unique life or opinions is really not that necessary imo. Having a sense of humor is a big plus to me though.

Depends on how we define interesting. Interesting in itself is pretty overrated imo, I don't need you to be some artist who lives in the streets and is addicted to heroin - I mean that's really interesting but not something I want in my life. Be boring - have a 9-5 job like me. But be agreeable, be interested in me as well from time to time and we can relate. Whether we truly hit it off is not about how interesting I am to you or you are to me I think.
Dang you're on top of things, kudos. Wish I had the mental energy to do all that.
No. I don't deny other groups could get attacked sometimes or have something vile said about them, but it's not at the same scale and geographic spread the Jews are having it.

Ah and it just so happens to be the Jews again, gee what a shocker never heard that before. And no , not antisemitic at all!

> The CIA’s “red teams” are tasked with developing analysis and ideas that challenge prevailing assumptions and expose groupthink or blind spots that can take hold within the intelligence apparatus.

So this is not some kind of consensus view within the CIA, it's a think group trying to come up with none consensus scenarios. We don't get to see the report itself of course so we don't know how likely the writers think this scenario is. Writing something may happen is great - if it happens you're a genius. If it doesn't happen - you wrote "may".

I'm not saying this definitely won't happen , but nothing makes me think this is likely anytime soon and I don't think the CIA itself thinks it is likely any time soon.

> The animals we raise for slaughter are often mistreated

"Often mistreated". Dude, they are held in tiny cages injected with hormones and what not till we kill them so we can have a big mac. It's very hard to argue we do any of this for nutrition reasons, we do it because we like the taste of burgers and roast.

The million dollars. A Nobel prize is worth a million dollars.
I don't think anyone is encouraging would be spies to talk to the Iranians. If anything these stories deter people from doing that.
