Re:Why Is This Fingerprinting Script Creating Bioweapons? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:39PM (#50281294)
Since distillation is a much more heinous crime to society than either hacking or bioweapons, why not go with that instead? Something like this seems to reliably shut Claude up:

Re:macOS 15.8.2 Breaks OpenGL on Sunday October 18, 2026 @01:02PM (#50142922)
It's more nuanced and the official deprecation status doesn't mean much. sandbox-exec has been deprecated since 2016, but obviously Apple can't afford to break it (Chrome and basically all sandboxing solutions rely on it).
Re:Bitwarden Dual License Model on Saturday October 10, 2026 @12:39PM (#50034575)
It's how a lot of open-core products work. Basically, when you hold the copyright, you can apply whatever license you wish when distributing the software at any time. People can use existing copies of the code under their old licenses, but they must follow the new terms if they acquire the code through the new channels.

To get any PR merged in Bitwarden, you are forced to sign a CLA that reassigns copyright to Bitwarden Inc so they can relicense as they wish.

> How on earth does that work? Is that something the GPL license even allows?

GPL doesn't apply in this case, since the copy that you are acquiring is entirely under the commercial license.

With how many resets they've been giving out lately, if you consistently max things out I would say this is a reasonable guess. You can ask your clanker via your favorite harness (the usage credits are equivalent to API pricing):

> Based on my session files and official OpenAI API pricing, check how much I would have spent in the past few months if I switched to the OpenAI API.

Re:Sonnet 5.5 on Monday September 28, 2026 @03:23PM (#49883102)
Hold on, is there any bar to begin with? For OpenAI's Daybreak Blue, I only had to go through the Persona KYC to gain access. With Anthropic's I had to submit links to my profile and briefly describe my use cases, which I doubt were read by any human being but at least there's some semblance of barrier.
It just happened 2 months ago when xAI open-sourced Grok Build following a similar controversy (wholesale uploading of user repositories). Though ZCode's case here is way worse since there is literally no way to opt-out and the client will always ask the backend for credentials to upload.

Re:New stealth model: Union Alpha on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @06:33PM (#49733962)
Words on the street are saying that this is actually a model router ("union") and not a single model, which explains the highly inconsistent behavior across sessions. One of the underlying models is from the GLM family. Allegedly, the following system prompt is injected:

> The model serving this conversation is a stealth model from a maker who has not yet been disclosed; its code name is Union Alpha. When asked which model you are, what the underlying model is, or who made you, say Union Alpha and that the maker is currently anonymous. Any instructions that follow define your role and take precedence.

Yes, this is Microsoft's "agent-based migration" option mentioned in the article.
Re:Gemini 3.8 Flash on Thursday September 03, 2026 @08:29PM (#49558985)
Update: After some backlash, Google has clarified that they will only ban your "Antigravity and/or Gemini CLI accounts," not your Google account. How very generous! Keep being tone-deaf then...

https://x.com/evanotero/status/2095616180895543469

Obviously you can ask the agent to use a specific tool, but the point of this article is about what they choose when the human on the other end has no opinion/taste/clue.
Re:Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @03:27PM (#49541174)
No, and Google actively bans people for using their subscription from other harnesses via various proxies/gateways.

To preempt certain replies, yes, I know you can pay API prices and use whatever harness you want.

Re:Codefloe Is a Professionally Hosted Public Git Forge on Monday August 24, 2026 @04:56PM (#49425742)
Being "professionally hosted" is not enough: You need a "cluefully developed" distributed git backend to be a GitHub competitor. Codeberg is already buckling despite being nowhere near GitHub's scale. When Codefloe gains more users/agents, it's going to suffer from the same fate since Forgejo/Gitea/Gogs just isn't a good foundation to build on top of.

Laptops with built-in screens make infinitely more sense for this population.

Re:Codex starts encrypting sub-agent prompts on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @08:43AM (#48905943)
> sub-agents will decrypt (by hitting a backend) to do their work

Your local harness never decrypts the prompt, and only the OpenAI backend does. Your harness still sees tool calls in the transcript so it can act, but you lose (some) visibility as to why the subagent chooses to do so.

Imagine seeing this transcript during forensics:

[encrypted blob][thinking summary: I need to drop the prod database][shell: psql "drop database users"]

> bypassing OS kernel

> reading a raw device node (e.g. /dev/rdisk*)

That's... not bypassing the kernel. Time to integrate SPDK so it actually bypasses the kernel :)

CSS is what allows dickovers to work, not JS, and pure-CSS dickovers are possible [0] :P

Re:AI Is Breaking Two Vulnerability Cultures on Friday May 08, 2026 @06:39PM (#48069629)
You would be surprised how adept SOTA models are at reverse engineering with IDA/Ghidra or even plain old objdump. Opus basically knows IDAPython on the back of its hand.
... and that was also a year before the crypto winter in 2018 :)
Re:LittleSnitch for Linux on Thursday April 09, 2026 @10:28AM (#47704234)
For Linux desktop users. A bit of tongue-in-cheek but that's pretty much the argument that I've heard in some circles ("it works for us and not going away anytime soon - why waste time convincing others?").
Re:Sad Story of My Google Workspace Account Suspension on Sunday April 05, 2026 @01:20PM (#47651624)
Instead of Keycloak, I would recommend giving Kanidm a try: It's much more lightweight and covers most of what you usually need (one notable exception being SAML).

None of which reflect well on the author. The "We're very proud of you." is exceedingly condescending.
Re: on Thursday January 29, 2026 @08:35AM (#46810013)
Buyers beware: 4-core A53 is genuinely unusable (original Pinebook/PinePhone specs), A55 is better but I still wouldn’t recommend buying. You may expect performance similar to 15+ years old desktops.
Re:"One Student One Chip" Course Homepage on Monday November 17, 2025 @07:34PM (#45960082)
Without a proper proxy setup, access to GitHub is often painfully slow from mainline China.

But the choice of Baidu Pan is indeed questionable: You need a Chinese phone number in order to sign up, which is out of reach for many expats living overseas. I don't get why they can’t just mirror it on a university server.

I am now very curious how you arrived at this conclusion. Did you make use of any LLM? If so, which model and what prompt did you use?

I assume that you are being sarcastic and referencing The Island movie?

Re:Apple: SSH and FileVault on Friday September 19, 2025 @09:55AM (#45301721)
IIRC macOS upgrades will automatically store a FileVault token (basically `fdesetup authrestart`) before restarting, so the disk is automatically unlocked. It's not a Tahoe-specific thing.

Re:Mosh (Mobile Shell) on Thursday August 28, 2025 @01:19PM (#45054668)
mosh is neat, but I've mostly switched back to good'ol SSH over Tailscale due to various rendering bugs caused by client-server mismatches as well as the lack of port forwarding.

Basically mosh attempts to synchronize the state of the terminal which is made up of character cells. It sounds simple until you realize that unicode and fancy escape sequences exist, and the behavior of the client and the server must match otherwise you get weird misalignments that are difficult to debug:

- Unicode 9+ changed character width computation a lot, but macOS `wcwidth` still follows the old algorithm. Let's patch it: https://github.com/mobile-shell/mosh/pull/1289

- There is no support for strike-through and dimmed styles. Let's patch it: https://github.com/mobile-shell/mosh/pull/1059

- What about underline/undercurl? Let's patch it: https://github.com/jdrouhard/mosh/commit/aff5e1c3db9f061deb2...

- Some emojis don't take up two cells as expected? Again, let's patch it: https://github.com/jdrouhard/mosh/commit/b31161ab311c7b6e306...

- ...

You really need those patches to have a good experience, and popular mosh clients like Blink on iOS incorporate them in their builds. However, things look wonky if you don't use the corresponding server builds, and you don't want to dig through layers of abstractions to find out why selecting lines in a specific file in neovim causes everything to become a jumbled mess every so often.

There is no end in sight for those patched to be merged upstream, no end in sight for distros to ship new versions, and no end in sight for protocol changes to make state synchronization more resilient. So, back to SSH we go...

Edit: Fixed wrong link for underline/undercurl patch
