Re:Passkeys Are Not a Trap on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @11:58AM (#50089721)
On iOS devices you can import/export Passkeys between supporting password manager apps (including Apple Passwords).

In my experience, migrating between Apple Passwords and Bitwarden worked without issues, in both directions.

Strava is an example of a website that's dog slow on Safari. Pages take 10+ seconds before they start rendering.

Not sure if the author is reading HN, but there is a typo:

Firefox on iOS doesn't support extensions at all.

You can use it without understanding, but this won't help you actually understand how it behaves.

Rob Pike seems to dislike syntax highlighting:

> Syntax highlighting is juvenile. When I was a child, I was taught arithmetic using colored rods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuisenaire_rods). I grew up and today I use monochromatic numerals.

He is definitely not alone in thinking this, for example (but for different reasons): https://www.linusakesson.net/programming/syntaxhighlighting/

> The cheating is out of control.

There are hardware cheats that are not detectable by KLAC, so it doesn't solve the problem, just improves the situation.

The only way to avoid cheaters is to play with people you trust.

They abandoned (or at least postponed) the idea of charging for self-hosted runners usage.

Actions management plane is the most problematic part of the platform (in regards to scale), so they are basically losing money with self-hosted runners.

Scaling of VMs shouldn't be a problem, since that is practically stateless, whereas there are lots of operations performed for every job/workflow.

Re:Homebrew 7.0.0 on Sunday September 13, 2026 @08:29AM (#49683257)
Are you implying that a 6 year old hardware is as good as a paperweight? Outside of the Apple fairyland this is just bonkers.

I'm not blaming the Homebrew project/developers here, but the fact that many people are okay with deprecating perfectly fine hardware.

There is no CSS configuration for text/font on the website, so it's using browser defaults.

Seems like reader mode is needed due to bad defaults.

Re:Disruption with Some GitHub Services on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @02:06PM (#49453320)
It very well may be that the paying customers are actually the problem. Those can actually afford to throw enough money at AI providers to significantly increase the number of commits & other actions.

Forgejo CI is based on act, which allows running GitHub Actions locally.

However, Codeberg offers hosted Woodpecker CI.

Plex app is better, but still inadequate compared to Infuse.
I’m quite sure that server set cookies are the norm for authentication, at least where they are set from the server side.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to only produce 500 items, instead of producing 1k, and throwing half of it away?
Practically all consumer Zigbee devices only support 2.4GHz. You would need to go for ZWave for the sub-GHz range.

Also, it's not like 860-930 MHz (depending on the country) is without interference.

I've been thinking about building my own NAS as well. Mind sharing how much did you pay for those hard drives, and what motherboard did you choose?
Re:Show HN: Davit, a Apple Containers UI on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @12:54AM (#48827674)
Docker Desktop's memory saver shuts down VM when containers are not running.

Additionally, Docker/Podman/Orbstack start a single VM, where memory is shared between containers.

On the other hand, Apple Containers create a separate VM for each container, which results in higher memory usage due to Linux kernel overhead, as well as the fact that kernel will try to use most of the available memory for file caching.

Re:Asahi Linux 7.1 Progress Report on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @09:36AM (#48746553)
FYI Apple Passwords supports exporting of items including Passkeys, which can be then imported in e.g. Bitwarden.
Re:Volkswagen started blocking GrapheneOS users on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @11:52AM (#48572206)
The issue here is not that they didn't test on alternative distributions of Android, the issue is that they went out of their way to prevent anything but the officially blessed distributions.
