Re:Parsing EDIFACT in Python with syntax trees on Saturday October 24, 2026 @02:45PM (#50223942)
I think OP means that it will parse EDIFACT with the tree structure it actually has in its specification, instead of a simple list of messages like many people do.

EDIFACT normally has (possibly repeating, possibly nesting) segment groups and a lot of code trying to handle EDIFACT skips over that.

Tried so many window manager addons or replacements for macOS. Ultimately, the only thing that stuck was https://github.com/FelixKratz/JankyBorders which does nothing more for me than painting a big colored border around the currently active window.

Everything else, including tiling managers never worked for me. I prefer to have my main window centered and all the others nearby, but nothing ever quite fit perfectly.

Re:Poisoned Google SERPs on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @05:43AM (#50084888)
Been out of the SEO game for a while, but the industry has always been pretty hysterical and has been seeing broad patterns in what often are only minor fluctuations or tests.
Thanks for that. Looks like exactly the agent I might have been looking for.
All I'd want is a CLI with a few tools AND a built-in, properly configurable and working sandbox. Seems that's too much too ask.
It's buggy like hell once you do not run the default settings. Whole permissions system is completely broken, for example.
Re:The Lamentable Later Life of Lemmings on Sunday September 20, 2026 @05:40AM (#49774174)
I didn't even consciously register the release of the many sequels back then. Always assumed it stopped after Lemmings 2.

Lemmings Revolution reminds me a little bit of good old Nebulus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebulus_(video_game)

Re:Jev: New frontier model 40-400x cheaper and 20-200x faster on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @05:33PM (#49719167)
Haven't seen any docs or so. Is this actually a general model, or does it need training on the the data set it answers? Finding it suspicious you never see some kind of prompt.

Edit: never mind, found https://docs.typesafe.ai/introduction/quickstart by now

Re:Jellyfin 12.0 on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @05:30AM (#49607877)
Thanks, definitely will try that one.
Re:Jellyfin 12.0 on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @05:15AM (#49607732)
How does it compare to current Plex? Are there proper, usable apps for Apple TV and iOS already?

Edit: Anyone is running Jellyfin on Qnap?

Re:Teaching my kid to code with a modern MUD on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @11:06AM (#49346730)
Second this. Even the kid who later chose a programming career hated Scratch.

Also, it'd be far too low level in comparison to what the guy did - ultimately, this is a game engine. Proper comparison would maybe be against Inform 7.

If you're doing the gym right, you don't have the energy to ogle anyone, anyway.
Re:AI-Generated Images Discourage Me from Reading Your Blog on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @07:52AM (#49181554)
Me, too. Plus, who cares if an LLM corrects the grammar or something.

If the engineer's a bad writer, the blog will at least restrict itself to the elemental information. There's too much SEO-influenced fluff anyway with people telling their supposed life stories as introduction to some technical tidbit. Same pestilence nowadays as with cooking recipes.

Nobody wants to read that shit, no matter who or what generated it.

Re:AI-Generated Images Discourage Me from Reading Your Blog on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @08:34AM (#49167887)
This. If it's actually an illustrative part of the text, include it, even if it's AI generated. Not everyone who can write can do graphics.

If it's only decoration, leave it out. No matter whether AI, stock or custom made.

You spelled Neovim wrong :-)
Re:Neuromancer (TV Series) – IMDB on Thursday July 09, 2026 @09:54AM (#48845874)
My personal issue with Foundation was, that at its core in the books, it was about ordinary humans solving problems. There of course were people with special abilities, but that was, well, special, and so special that e.g. in the case of the Mule, it completely trashed all plans everyone had due to its extraordinariness.

In the TV series, everybody seems to have superpowers. A rather pacifist politician from the book is suddenly, in the series, a gunslinging person with mental superpowers.

I liked that the original was about more or less competent people making decisions, and seeing those decisions play out. I admit, I like competence porn. Almost everyone having superpowers feels like a betrayal of the values of the books.

Best part about the TV series are the three emperors. It's the one addition which really added something to the story... and which did not betray the values of the original book series, but was just a nice addition.

Re:Neuromancer (TV Series) – IMDB on Thursday July 09, 2026 @04:06AM (#48842470)
I liked Altered Carbon, at least season 1.

What I fear is another Foundation.

Saw there's an issue already about the <= ligature. Will open a second issue with feature request for bigger dots.
Seems there's no way to disable the <= ligature without disabling whitespace ligatures? I'm not all too crazy for real ligatures but whitespace adjustments otherwise seem nice.

Also, as it's so finely adjustable, would love if they'd offer some variants for dot and comma, to increase their size, because that's my number one problem with fonts since age 45.

Re:Apple announces macOS 27 Golden Gate on Monday June 08, 2026 @02:14PM (#48449028)
Wonder if their screen time stuff will finally be safe against tampering by kids and not be "hackable" within seconds.

Also, I still hope, that one day basic stuff like time machine might work... reliably.

Accelerando is not Egan, though, but Stross. Egan's book Diaspora shares similar themes, though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaspora_(novel)
I'd ask for Rock n' Roll Racing!
Re:.de TLD offline due to DNSSEC? on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @05:38PM (#48028958)
You definitely forgot Merkel and Habeck.
Re:.de TLD offline due to DNSSEC? on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @05:28PM (#48028862)
It's night. Somebody has to fill a form to approve night work first.
Re:.de TLD offline due to DNSSEC? on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @05:22PM (#48028764)
That's weird cause 8.8.8.8/1.1.1.1 will already answer with SERVFAIL right now, unless the domain is still in the cache.
Re:.de TLD offline due to DNSSEC? on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @05:08PM (#48028588)
Probably just a high TTL.
Re:.de TLD offline due to DNSSEC? on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @04:16PM (#48027898)
Whole .de TLD seems to go offline right now due to dnssec or missing nic.de nameservers?
