Re:Elon Musk Is Wrong. We Aren't Living in a Simulation on Saturday September 17, 2016 @03:56PM (#12522154)
They wouldn't question this if the VR Apple had smell or taste. They are assuming that because the technology doesn't exist today it can't be true. They would say the same thing it the early 1700 if you told them that we will one day fly across the sky and talk on little devices. The magic behind this is that the technology has yet to be invented so people cant comprehend how it works. Even if we are in a simulation. Anyone who codes or understand AI at its lowest form will understand that we ourselfs are just 1's and 0's.
Re:Ask HN: Would you sign up if a Phone Number is required? on Saturday September 17, 2016 @09:03AM (#12520315)
These are really great points. The thought process is that it will be used for authentication and recovery. I would say Virtual Numbers are a concern but most cost money and an email is free to create. Which was why I said better control spam. If they want to pay money to be a clown and troll I've already won anyway.

I think you are right about the concern of privacy. The scary part is most don't even read the Terms and Policy Agreement.

Ask HN: Would you sign up if a Phone Number is required?

Would you create an account on a App that requires a Phone Number? The reasons for asking for a Phone Number are to prevent abuse, better control spam and make the accounts more secure.More apps are now requiring a Phone Numbers to create an account. I also know some people are against sharing to much information.Would you provide a number if it was justified? Are the reasons above justifiable?

Ask HN: SF vs. NYC?

My team is currently discussing a relocation to either San Fransisco or New York City in the next 2 months our so. We are a social network startup currently based out of Atlanta. ATL is a young growing city and we believe the media connections and partners here are great. However our reason for wanting to relocated is 2 things.1. Talent is really hard to find here in Atlanta. 2. The network of...

Digital DMV & Universal Phone/Desktop Login (I'd like to be able to login to my Mac desktop from my iPhone)
Sorry emails in my bio.
LinkedIn is very resourceful for both Recruiting and Job Searching. Doesn't matter if you're looking for big or small their database is large enough to find niche markets for both the employee and employer.
If you're just in need of a brand kit $1,500 sounds pretty reasonable if it's a profressional agency. Specially if that covers a name, logo, icons, colors and fonts.

I would stay away from 99Designs because if you're launching a beta you'll need someone to also help iterate any changes based on feedback. So quick and close communication is important.

if you need any further input on what kind of things you should be looking for from a designer send me an email.

I've helped over 12 startups with branding including 2 YC startups.

Ask HN: Any devs interested in messaging app?

My Cofounder and myself are looking for someone to join our team. We already have an app in the app store with positive growth. We are looking for someone to help iterate a rebrand/new features and designs based on user feedback. We are open to explore options whether that be a cofounder role or contract role. This is a great opportunity at a early stage startup.

Re:Ask HN: Should I change my logo? on Friday July 15, 2016 @07:34PM (#12104476)
Its a matter of opinion, I think a genie is very fitting for a CRM. The problem is it doesn't look like a genie. It also doesn't go with the name.
Re:Ask HN: Should I change my logo? on Friday July 15, 2016 @09:15AM (#12100689)
I semi get the branding inspiration behind the genie. You tried to pick something that can offer you unlimited service. Which I guess in hand matches your product.

The problem isn't that you have a genie, the problem is that you have to tell people it's a genie.

A few things to mention about the brand is that a genie and the name companyhub don't really blend well. When ever I brand something I look at the name, the product and the vision. I ask myself what icons, letters, colors can I use or combine that tell what my product does with out having to say it.

Also the logo it's self is not really iconic and memorable. I'd say explore your options, if for some reason you want to stay with the genie theme maybe try a genie lamp instead.

Let's do an Experiment

How many startups can the HN community build together.I'm a big startup enthusiast but I'm also an encourager of collaboration. Im constantly reading Show HN, concepts and finding a lot of amazing talent on HN. I've noticed there is also a lot of missed opportunities to have these awesome people connect and work together to build their ideas. Here's how the experiment will work, if you're...

Re:Ask HN: Single Person startup/company? on Tuesday July 12, 2016 @12:22AM (#12076708)
I agree with all that. I've got a few ideas myself but as a designer with only frontend skills I can only go so far. Normally if I build something or design a prototype its easier to find someone who wants to join. They'll have a better understanding of the product and workflow. Right now I have a Saas startup in SF we are looking for a marketing/biz dev cofounder. Products in hand launching August. Also always looking for someone great at marketing like I said shoot me an email and we'll connect. If you have angellist follow me their too. Angel.co/brayson-ware

I find it crazy that you have the funds and those kinda revenues but can't find the talent. Don't take this wrong but could be people don't want to work with you. I don't know you but there's definitely something not right. It also could just be that most of the "WOW" Developers work on their own projects by themselves. If they really like you, your idea/concepts and you have the funds to support it, you shouldn't have a problem.
Re:Ask HN: Single Person startup/company? on Monday July 11, 2016 @09:49AM (#12070999)
I agree you shouldn't share the URL, someone could easily copy the startup or model. What I don't agree with is that someone would be able to execute it properly.
Re:How do you make programmers work 60-80 hours per week? on Saturday July 09, 2016 @02:52PM (#12062731)
Have you ever wondered why the average job is 40 hours/wk?

That's because the quality of work an employees produces dramatically decreases working more than that. Over time an employee working 60+ Hours per week will become exhausted and drained physically and mentally. Which will make them lose passion, less focused and become very unhappy with their job.

40-50 hours give that individual enough time to complete reasonable tasks and still have a work life balance. Employees who have more time to spend with family, friends and on their hobbies have shown to produce higher quality work and are more committed to their jobs.

You also shouldn't be worried about how long an employee works but how well they work.

Like the saying goes "Quality over Quantity"

Re:Ask HN: What should we do on Friday July 08, 2016 @08:59AM (#12055143)
This is something we are discussing as well. We are weighing all of our options but gotta move quickly. We think having a technical cofounder has its advantages for championing ideas, improvements and reassurance. Its hard to find talent that sees beyond the code that doesn't want to work on their own ideas by themselves.

We also think finding the right contractor is smart idea too because it will allow us to make the changes without equity like you said. Which than we can scale the product on our own to get the traction/funding we need to hire the right CTO.

We've really only had one investor question us on not having a CTO anyway.

Re:Ask HN: What should we do on Thursday July 07, 2016 @06:26PM (#12052479)
I'll do some more research on this thanks.

20000 DAU 15% of the users open 100 times a day. This is higher than snapchats early stage data.

However we have recently been told by a big name investor he doesn't consider anything under 30k user validation. So I could be wrong.

My concern is that the product has bugs and backend isn't ready to support massive growth.

Ask HN: What should we do

We need some advice on our next step. We currently have a product that is in the App Store that we launched for user validation. The problem is, we now have that validation but the product isn't scalable. We outsourced the development so the backend isn't what it should be it crashes and has lots of bugs. The reason we did this is because my cofounder and myself are design and marketing...
