Don't know for Germany but 50% of the cases in Spain are in Madrid so hospitals are collapsed. That info is not in the link.

I would say we need more information per country to understand differences.

Re:IRC – Why It Failed (2018) [pdf] on Monday March 09, 2020 @02:31AM (#22523407)
100% true. I use IRC for work and I have that feeling every single day.

I would say this 1999 vibe is caused by smartphone and the "issues" that XMPP and IRC have with multiple clients for the same account. But it's a pity that, instead of improving those protocols, now we have to deal with multiple clients for multiple services.

Why people understand that you can use email with whatsoever client you want, but no with chats?

Re:Ask HN: Should I quit my job? on Monday May 27, 2019 @04:58PM (#20025205)
Spaniard here. If you live in Madrid/Barcelona, try to find a new position in a smaller city. I don't see myself living there.

In my opinion, if you are losing your motivation, maybe your guts are not the best advice you should follow. I always try to take risky decisions when I feel comfortable with the current situation.

Re:Ask HN: Developers with ADHD/ADD, how do you cope? on Thursday May 23, 2019 @06:39AM (#19990405)
In my case, I didn't find a medication that suits me, but I was diagnostic recently so it's an ongoing process.

The only two things that (almost) works for me at this moment are a notebook (I use a modified version of bullet journal) and meditation (I use headspace).

Apart from that: sleep. That helps with the weird depression-like mood I always have.

Ask HN: Do you have a landing page for your tools?

My team is the owner of a bunch of internal web services that currently are only available using their FQDN.In order to have a better user experience, I´m thinking on a landing page, domains, and certificates. (Maybe a Nginx to centralize the domains and the certificates). How do you do that? Any tips? Any interesting resources I should be pointed to?

I feel envy. I'm writing an NES emulator with a friend and it's taking so long... The gui is stealing my sanity.

At least the CPU is completely done.

I'll lurk his code :D

Re:macOS Mojave Drains Battery Like Never Before on Monday October 15, 2018 @06:12AM (#18218580)
Mojave is working like a charm. No more burned fingers while typing, and the battery is lasting even longer in my MacBook Pro 13" 2017.

I was very sad with Sierra but now I can work with multiple VM and IntelliJ without pain in my fingers.

Re:Ask HN: What was the best decision you made in your career? on Wednesday September 26, 2018 @04:30AM (#18073922)
In my case, a bunch of different small decisions instead of a single big one.

They look so obvious right now...

Right now, I think that the best decision I'm taking is learning Japanese.

Re:Ask HN: What podcasts do you listen to regularly? on Wednesday September 26, 2018 @04:04AM (#18073771)
- The Ground Up Show

- The Minimalists

- Levar Burton Reads

I want to, but I don't have time for more podcasts. They distract me a lot so I only listen when I take a walk or commute.

Re:Show HN: A single command terminal configuration installer on Wednesday August 22, 2018 @07:08AM (#17817810)
With C-b you have less movement, C-a moves your hand in a weird form which creates pain in the hand. Apart from that, I use only my left hand to press C-b.

C-a is the default one in Screen but as far as I remember C-b is the default one in Tmux since the beginning of the project.

C-x is a bad idea too, because is another shortcut in bash (C-x + e bring up the $EDITOR). I think C-b is a good choice.

The only thing I change in tmux is the pane and windows number (I prefer to start in 1 instead of 0 because I can type with less movement).

Re:Show HN: A single command terminal configuration installer on Wednesday August 22, 2018 @05:20AM (#17817416)
As someone who use intensively Tmux, I find easier to not touch the default configuration. Press twice vs use something that works perfectly.
Re:Show HN: A single command terminal configuration installer on Wednesday August 22, 2018 @03:35AM (#17817024)
It looks awesome but... tmux with "control + a" instead of the default "control + b"? That is horrible!

"control + a" moves you to the beginning of the line in bash (and in other shells, like zsh).

Too late. It's been a while since I have it.

The temperature is something that bothers me but is usable, I guess.

I bought the MacBook Pro 2017 13" without touch bar with an i7. I pretty happy with it, but, the only thing that bothers me is it gets hot. Hot as hell. Skype sharing the screen and JetBrains CLion and you get a beautiful roaster.
Re:Ask HN: What’s wrong with me on Sunday June 10, 2018 @06:21PM (#17280490)
A few years ago, without any previous symptoms, I wake up from a nap and everything looked gray.

I talked with my girlfriend about that (never with my parents, maybe I feel ashamed? ) and I talked with a professional. It helps a lot. Seriously. Go.

Few other things that work for me:

* Sleep. Man, just sleep. After two days without proper sleep, I feel like crap. Exactly with all those things that you said in mind.

* Food. No candies. Bananas are amazing.

* I fucking love coffee. But I tried not to abuse.

* Write things down. Tasks? Write them. Feelings? Write them too. Check tasks in a paper have something that helps me feel like I accomplished something. And try to do small tasks, break things into chunks. It's something very very very hard for me, but it works.

* Get angry. Really. Be mad at something. Be bordered by something. Hate something. And try to express those feelings (without being an asshole of course). Example: If someone sent me an email that I found stupid, I talk about that with my coworkers. I don't know why but makes me feel like I care about things.

* And disconnect. I used to be hyper-connected. Now I tried to minimize the number of things that I read, I don't use twitter either facebook anymore. If something does not add value to my life, I tried to avoid it.

Re:Now Is the Perfect Time for an RSS Renaissance on Tuesday April 24, 2018 @05:51PM (#16916982)
I work with a T460 (my employer only works with Lenovo laptops). Oh my God, I'll never buy one for myself. After a year, the battery last like 2 hours and the touchpad is shit. The only cool thing it is the dock. This is my second Lenovo laptop and no again, thanks.
Re:Ask HN: What tools do you use to automate your business? on Thursday April 19, 2018 @11:04AM (#16876490)
I work for a fortune 500 company.

We want to automate everything but we fight against the odds. In fact, I work with people that "don't believe in automation". I don't even understand the sentence.

BTW: Docker, Ansible, an in-house tool somewhat similar to OpenStack, Go and Python.

Thanks for the suggestion. In fact, I'm thinking in dropping the idea and port it, but I'm not confident with my Python skills and there are plenty of concurrency stuff in the library.

Well, I guess is time to learn Python

Ask HN: Real world examples of interaction between Python and Go?

My manager allows me to use some of my time on personal projects so I started a library for an internal tool. More as a learning project that anything else, but now, it seems is useful for other people. The thing is, the library is completely written in Go and I would like to use it as a Python library.I found a few blog posts but I cannot find real world examples of libraries written in Go but...

Re:Ask HN: Sysadmin rejected for the second time at Amazon on Saturday January 28, 2017 @04:49PM (#13509610)
That's one of the reasons I was thinking. But why pay for my travel expenses for twice if they see that I'm undergraduate at first glance?
Re:Ask HN: Sysadmin rejected for the second time at Amazon on Saturday January 28, 2017 @04:46PM (#13509592)
I was thinking about that recently. Why is so important for me the recognition of a big company? I dunno why.

The "culture" thing as you said is something weird for me. I don't see how they discover and evaluate if you fit or not. And what is necessary to fit. But I'm sure I don't want to fit if I don't fit by myself.

Re:Ask HN: Sysadmin rejected for the second time at Amazon on Saturday January 28, 2017 @04:39PM (#13509550)
Of course my current position is far from hardware problems, but I worked for 3 years in a position like the one at Amazon, so I'm not a hardware newbie

Is bad to have more preferred skills than basics skills? I never thought about it.

Ask HN: Sysadmin rejected for the second time at Amazon

I've been lurking Hacker News for a while but never commented neither have Account. I always see this kind of post and I find them very helpful. So here I go.A little background about myself: 5 years of experience, under 30, studying a CS degree while working full-time as DevOps for a Fortune 500 IT company. (I don't think this matters but it's quite funny for me because it's a crappy working...
