Infrastructure and backend engineer with a low-level systems background. Last 3 years as the sole or one of very few infra engineers at early-stage startups - owning everything from VPC topology to CI/CD to on-call.

Currently building cloud infrastructure for a GPU neocloud (H100/H200) from scratch. Before that, sole platform engineer at an autonomous driving research lab, and before that SRE at a YC-backed video comms startup (acquired by a major cloud provider) managing 20+ Kubernetes clusters across AWS and GCP.

On the systems side - wrote a custom Karpenter provider in Go for a cloud provider, a C++ initramfs to run Gentoo on bare-metal Android phones with Android userland in LXC (GSoC 2020), and ADAS software on Android using Cap'n Proto + ZeroMQ + LMDB serving 275+ vehicles.

Also wrote bin (github.com/wantguns/bin), a self-hostable pastebin in Rust with 300 stars. Outside of work I maintain a multi-continent server mesh across Hetzner, Oracle Cloud and bare-metal, all declared in a public Nix flake (source - https://github.com/wantguns/dotfiles, blogs -https://wantguns.dev/tags/yakshaving)

i have always felt some unexplained effect while listening to Veridis Quo [1]. the melody start sounding different from the 0:38 mark, just as the kicks come in. it seems like some supporting keys are added with the kicks, to make the sound more full, but at the same time it could be my brain getting tricked.

sorry for botching the explanation, i have never studied music.

Re:Ask HN: Could you share your personal blog here? on Tuesday July 04, 2023 @02:44PM (#36590980)
https://wantguns.dev i don't write that often though
I usually refrain from installing apps from Aurora Store instead of F-Droid, but Harmonic is the one app for which I oblige.

Thanks a lot for open-sourcing it.

I wait for the day, where I can finally get a good HN client at F-Droid :)

back in the covid period, i wrote a small set of scripts to automatically attend my university lectures on zoom:

https://github.com/WantGuns/auto_meet

it does the bare minimum of:

    - parsing calendar events (which have meet links)
    - open zoom meets on lecture's starting time
    - exit meet meets on lecture's ending time
    - shutdown machine when all the meetings were over

my sleep schedule was f-ed up to say the least. these scripts helped me maintain my attendance :)

I can see this being used on bot accounts for private orgs.

Its a minimal blog I made in Zola (just cuz). I still have to implement caching on it, which should be enough to release the source.

what does hn think ?

how does this bring a better or even a different workflow than tmux ?

I would suggest looking into Sharkbait[1]. Although full-disclaimer, I like to say that I am a part of the team and we are lazily trying to self-host Android.

Re:Linux Hardening Guide on Thursday December 31, 2020 @02:56AM (#25590583)
whats wrong with Gentoo, my guy ?
Re:Linux Hardening Guide on Thursday December 31, 2020 @02:54AM (#25590576)
The blog mentions the ill usage of OpenSSL in favour of LibreSSL. At the same time, right now the devs at Gentoo are having a heated discussion to discontinue LibreSSL support.
