Eli also went back and changed his original 11 years later response from:

> No problem; just remember that modifying someone else's code does not grant you any copyright to that code.

to

> I don't agree with your opinion that inserting existing code into a template (the API) for a framework (Modernizr) warrants a notice of credit, even with a few changes to the code being inserted.

Seems almost a little crazy to hold onto something that long and return to edit your comment 11 years later.

This is just silly, Don. HN has gotten so mired in negativity that someone who's a genuine fan of a product, and dares to go against the narrative is now a "shill." Also: see definition of shill. I'm just a happy user that runs a startup, and my life is easier because of their existence.
do you consider Vercel a monopoly?
I've been using Next.js since 2017 (before dynamic routes were even a thing!).

The app router kinda sucks so we're staying with /pages. No complaints thus far with a team of 6 engineers.

I've been using Vercel for > 5 years. Suppose it's possible but that's true for any platform.

Rebolt | Atlanta (onsite) | Full-stack engineer (AI focus) | Full-Time | 120-180k + equity | https://rebolthq.com

We've raised $4.6M to date to help home service businesses (think HVAC, plumbing, landscaping, roofing) with their digital marketing, building everything with an AI-first mindset.

We are a small team still (16 total in the company).

I'm the founder/CEO and have 13 years experience as an SWE so we very much take an engineering-first approach. If you're interested and your Github profile goes back to at least 2019, email me directly - will[@]rebolthq.com

This is just silly. Just because you retain wealth doesn't mean you aren't positively acting to improve the current state of the world.

Can vouch for this as well. The API has breaking changes all the time and there's no notice whatsoever. We'll transition away soon.

More than half that voted is all that matters
Re:Elon Musk's Demolition Crew on Thursday February 06, 2025 @10:22PM (#42968973)
More than half of us voted for this. And we love what is going on; that action is being taken. Don't presume everyone thinks the same way you do.
Solid idea, and best of luck.

If I could make one recommendation: hire a UX/UI designer ASAP. The less technical the audience, the more intuitive and easy to navigate the UI needs to be.

Our company focuses on home service businesses and they get roadblocked super easily. I think you'll be glad you did it earlier rather than later. Otherwise, the ux debt will pile up and it will be quite a project a year down the line.

The Mux marketing strategy is brilliant.

Take over or create new open source projects so that every developer comes across your company in the search for a video package.

Another example I noticed recently is https://github.com/cookpete/react-player

Many of the best SEO understand technical aspects but don't actually code. The vast majority. Source: built and sold company on the back of SEO and worked with many great SEOs.

How do you allow non-technical folks to edit prompts?

I feel like many companies probably have this problem: you have a bunch of prompts in your codebase and you want to allow non-technical folks to edit or iterate upon them to make them better. In our case, we help our customers with local SEO so we hired someone to help us refine them. He's great at prompting and SEO but does not code.So we need a playground like environment, except that takes in...

Many such similar stories, except where the crutch is alcohol. Back to the original question, would you propose banning alcohol as well?

And we're down again. This is awful.

This is capital gains, meaning 15-20% in taxes. Nowhere near half.
Why wouldn't they? It's been pumped up way beyond the IPO price that they and the bankers thought was reasonable.

Even if you are bullish long-term, it makes sense to cash out while it's overbought and buy back later.

Also, keep in mind 500,000 shares might sound like a lot to us, but it's not even close to a majority of their position.

Looking at this as a signal as to whether you should hold as an employee would be silly.

Re:Online Job Posts Contain Little Wage Information [pdf] on Tuesday January 02, 2024 @12:59PM (#38844663)
This doesn't make sense from the hiring side to me. I have a small agency with 10 employees and it's just common sense to put salary info in the job listing.

Otherwise we both waste each other's time if it's not up to their expectations. What is the benefit of obscuring it until it's time to present an offer?
