What's interesting to me is how high DeepSeek is on these graphs considering it is so cheap you don't think about it (like $5 usd per month cheap.)

Re:You Are Not Your Job on Sunday March 22, 2026 @11:40PM (#47485264)
A small correction to this, your friends don't really like you due to any desirable attribute you have, its not an exchange process. They like you for your you-ness.

Think about a friend, what is it you like about them? I think you will find that it's not a series of attributes, but a rather unquantifiable them ness - you like the fact they are uniquely them, this is how you are seen as well. You're enough.

Re:Everyday life improvements since the 90s (2022) on Tuesday April 22, 2025 @07:21PM (#43767212)
Let's not forget that comparing the 2020's to the 90's is like comparing the 90's to the 60's. Would we have a more substantial list between those two decades?

Have you seen / did you create this series on youtube? The final video lands on something very similar to this. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsfH1Ahi4SzE-QmrsrtyZubGm...
Wow your son is good at projects and I am bad at mental arithmetic.

Here is a much better technique which only relies on SSH https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2022/ssh-and-http-raspberr...

Is there a way to move the canvas via mac track pad which works the same way the middle mouse button does? I.e. always drags even if I'm looking at an editor
The article is about Google being at its best when it had the least competition. You should read it.
Is it? If you've got `PasswordAuthentication` disabled, only allow public key logins and keep your system up to date. Honest question.

I self host my email ( docker-mailserver ) and host my personal website on an old laptop with a static IP. Have done for years now without issue.

I'm way less anxious as an adult than I was as a kid. Likely due to various coping strategies that I've ingrained over the years.
Interesting, do you have a reference for the autism to weed anxiety link?

Sounds like it has the same effect on mammals as fly spray does on insects?

i.e death via full body convulsions

If we valued time* instead of capital then this would be seen as great news.

Re:This is what the year actually looks like (2018) on Wednesday October 18, 2023 @11:53PM (#37938162)
I've got the year on a clock face here https://clock.mohiohio.com. I chose summer solstice for 12pm and winter solstice for 12am.

I built this so that I would stop expecting winter to end soon after winter solstice, no my friend, the night is just getting started.

( I'm in the southern hemisphere btw if you are seeing am instead of pm that'll be why )

Re:What happened to blogging for the hell of it? on Tuesday October 17, 2023 @07:36PM (#37922983)
When you hear Zizek talk about ideology this is what he means. The ideology of capitalism influences us in certain ways, such as desiring to capitalize off our audience, the goal subtly shifts to increasing metrics such as readers, likes, shares.

What really changed about blogging is that people started to care about these metrics more and more. In the early internet one wrote a blog post without really expecting anyone to read it! ( although someone stumbling upon it was paradoxically more likely before we switched to social media platforms etc ) As such I'd argue the author wrote more authentically.

Re:Metric Time on Thursday October 12, 2023 @05:06AM (#37854949)
Speaking of different clocks. Here is the year on a clock face. 12pm is summer solstice, 12am is winter solstice. https://clock.mohiohio.com ( I'm in the southern hemisphere so it might be the wrong way around if you aren't. I need to fix that.)

I've got a raspberry pi that records birdsong at sunrise each morning here for those interested https://www.mohiohio.com Although it mostly recorded wind today. Scroll to get to another day. RSS feed available.

Surprisingly that article suggests otherwise
