Oh nice! I used it back on a first gen iPad in 2010 and the editorial-style layout meets curated RSS feeds was hard to beat.
It wasn't physical, but there was a slick app for the 1st gen of iPad called Early Edition which was basically just curated RSS feeds presented in the style of a newspaper. I was only able to find one image of it. I don't think the app exists anymore, unfortunately.

Re:Trump Demands a Cut of Alina Habba's $50M Pardon Deal on Sunday November 01, 2026 @10:57PM (#50332963)
Agreed, I've held this position for a long time. It baffles me that people don't seem to realize there's no "net win" in allowing one single person the authority to unilaterally overturn the entire judicial system with the stroke of an (auto)pen.

There's a reason it used to be called the Royal Pardon. It was the prerogative of kings.

Oh, what's that you say? It can be used to correct injustices? Yeah, that pendulum swings both ways.

Re:Katamari Damacy but it's The Met collection on Sunday November 01, 2026 @10:43PM (#50332883)
Nice job~~ Some feedback:

• Provide a toggle for the music. It sounds like it was procedurally generated by Claude Code. I understand CC was trying to give it a "Damacy vibe", but it just doesn't have any of the charm. I can still sing the very memorable original's theme despite not having played it in over two decades.

• The camera has a bit too much elasticity when you haven't accreted much on the ball. For whatever reason, good camera controls give even SOTA LLMs a surprising amount of grief. Might be worth a bit of manual tuning.

Re:I vibecoded a 2d pixel game in 6h yesterday on Sunday November 01, 2026 @06:49PM (#50331188)
I read through that article, but it’s basically just: here’s a prompt and now feed it into Sprite Fusion’s proprietary API.

That’s totally fine but it does mean reliance on an additional paid service outside of a conventional LLM. Is that what you did?

Re:Show HN: Breath of the Wild's Hyrule digital diorama on Sunday November 01, 2026 @10:39AM (#50326674)
Nice job. Have you seen the physical diorama that somebody made a couple of years back? He's got a video detailing the entire process, and it's super impressive.

You might like 3dSen, which came out several years ago. It does some pretty crazy stuff, converting NES games into essentially 3D voxel environments.

Re:Prospero: A new coding harness for a more civilized age on Saturday October 31, 2026 @11:14AM (#50316905)
Thanks I'll have to set aside some time later to try it out. It's kind of a sliding scale, but pi is definitely lighter-weight when compared to harnesses like Opencode and the all-batteries included "Oh-My-Pi".

And of course, “lightweight” does have a lot of interpretations where harnesses are concerned (memory footprint, binary size, performance, system prompt, etc).

Re:Prospero: A new coding harness for a more civilized age on Saturday October 31, 2026 @10:39AM (#50316622)
If you’re the creator of this harness, you should disclose that. I have nothing against self-promotion, it’s just considered good practice.

Some feedback but it might be worth calling out how your harness differs from other relatively light-weight ones like Pi. I assume its got a much smaller memory footprint given yours is C versus Pi's. There are so many agentic harnesses out there that a comparison table might be a nice thing to have on the landind page.

Note: Just to be clear, I'm not accusing you of trying to hide it, given that the GitHub account for Hax is basically identical to your HN account.

Nice job. Did you ever play the Sword Quest series of top-down RPGs for DOS? The screenshots of your game remind me of the first-person battle scenes from those games, which I really liked. I still find that artwork very charming.

TNG is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I can't answer most of these. I feel like I've watched the entire show at least a couple of times all the way through, but I definitely don't pay attention to the individual episode titles.

This is one step away from: "In season 4, episode 3, what was the exact code Data used to lock out the Enterprise?"

Love that episode. I remember immediately being reminded of balut [1] when Picarde eats the alien egg.

Re:Show HN: A Daily Poem Writing Puzzle on Friday October 30, 2026 @04:35PM (#50309799)
Nice job. Small bit of feedback - did you look over today’s word list? It felt a little jarring particularly given the soft pastel theme.

Not saying bawdy profanity doesn’t have its place in poetry but you may want to at least allow people to filter out those words if you want this to reach a wider audience.

Re:Show HN: Reduce: A Daily Puzzle on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:35AM (#50305426)
Nice job. My only minor feedback is that the first 6-letter word of today's puzzle feels a mite obscure. (Without spoiling anything, I'd never heard that word used standalone without a preceding one)
Re:Anthropic Cracking Down on Video Game Rewrites on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:33AM (#50305391)
Interesting - I guess it's hard to say if it would be caught by anthropic censors upstream since we aren't really privy to how broad this new "net" is going to be.
Re:Anthropic Cracking Down on Video Game Rewrites on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:19AM (#50305164)
I'm not sure why it's being limited to just games (it might just be the announcement), but I'm sure vibe-coded stuff like this that people keep happily plastering over every possible social media outlet presumably isn't helping.

Re:Show HN: Typebook.lol read books by typing the letters only on Thursday October 29, 2026 @04:55PM (#50295789)
Might be a good idea to try to explain how your project is different from other more well-known ones that let you practice typing using public domain literature. TypeLit is the one that comes immediately to mind.

Re:Ask HN: I Need Advice on Thursday October 29, 2026 @11:25AM (#50290579)
This doesn't work for everybody and its a big decision, but sometimes having something that you have to take care of (such as a dog or a cat) helps you build consistent routines and develop a sense of responsibility outside of just yourself which can cross-pollinate into other areas of your life.

For example having dog means having to take it out regularly for walks and feed it regularly. And in the words of the immortal Calvin and Hobbes, they make for excellent fuzz therapy. Good luck and hope you start feeling better.

Re:Image generation has come a long way since August 2022 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:32AM (#50284592)
Nice pictures. Really wish I'd started my GenAI benchmark back when DALL-E 2 were still around, just to have them as a fun little baseline for how much things have changed.

The only DALL-E 2 images [1] I could dig up in my archives that matched any of the bench prompts was the Alexander the Great prompt:

A painting of Alexander the Great riding a hippity hop into battle. The hippity hop toy was an old children’s toy that looked like a giant rubber ball with rubber handles that one straddle and ride.
And while it's not exactly the same, DALL-E Mini [2] (from back in 2021) is still around and you can run it locally using pretty modest hardware.

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:39PM (#50278822)
It seems like there’s an audience among older people and possibly children, but I don’t see a situation in which a professional at least would really or want a touchscreen. Do you really want the oil from your fingers constantly smudging up your screen, particularly a glossy one? Unless it comes with a pair of complimentary Apple windshield wipers, it's gonna get gross fast.

The only situation I could see it being useful in is if it came with a pressure-sensitive pen, so you could use it for sketching and drawing. But even then, that would only really work well if the screen folded all the way around, so it would sit flush against the base or if it opened 180 degrees, so you could lay it flat on a table without it wobbling around on a hinge.

Re:Valve Responds to Developers Fearing AI Slop and Clones on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @12:58PM (#50276752)
Agreed. Copycatting has existed all the way back to the early Atari days. In fact, Nolan Bushnell used to talk about constantly moving on to new products in order to “eat his own babies.” Swift style.

Always wary of “the jackals” and convinced that the only way to stay ahead of the competition was to introduce new products, Bushnell wanted to discontinue the VCS and move on to the next-generation game console. Bushnell preferred moving to new technologies rather than spending time refining old ideas and letting his competitors catch up to him. He called his philosophy “eating your own babies” and said that if Atari didn’t (eat its own babies), somebody else would.
-- Steven Kent (The Ultimate History of Video Games: From Pong to Pokemon)

The issue today is the breathtaking speed with which people can rip you off by simply pointing an agentic coding harness at your original IP and laundering it into 50 copies in the span of a single weekend.

Re:Tell HN: Last night, I had a dream on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:23AM (#50269636)
> The corruption of historical sources of truth

For a while now, malicious actors have been using LLMs to make semi-plausible looking automated edits to Wikipedia pages to shift discourse, alter information, etc. Fortunately with wikimedia we have a revision history but it's been pretty overwhelming to the dedicated editor staff they have on hand.

Re:I will no longer upload to NEW on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:02AM (#50259525)
Oof, that image is rough. Image models just don’t know when to stop shoving shit into an image (instead of less is more, MORE IS MORE), which makes it even worse because that’s where AI image generators tend to break down aka the devil is in the details.

Then they proceed to summon a million infernal imps.

Re:Show HN: Ultimidi – piano learning web game on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @09:58AM (#50259442)
Yeah, offering multiple sounds is actually a pretty common approach in lots of music software / DAWs. Some people like a woodblock sound, while others prefer the traditional metronome sound you'd hear from a mechanical escapement mechanism, etc.
Re:Image generation has come a long way since August 2022 on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:20PM (#50251943)
I've been running a benchmark for comparing generative image models with a strong emphasis on complex prompt adherence since the days of SDXL back in 2023.

It’s not really intended to be viewed chronologically but there is a progress metric that shows how models have improved their scores over time, which might help you compare earlier models with later models such as Ideogram4 or Moss-Image released in 2026.

I lived in Taiwan for years where I worked in ESL and later translation work between traditional Chinese and English. Chinese (like many languages) can vary pretty widely in terms of intonation/accents. For example, if you listen to someone with a 青島 accent, IMHO it sounds a bit more subdued than a typical 北京 one. Interestingly I've actually had a number of mainlanders instantly identify me as having learned Chinese in Taiwan because of my softer pronunciations.

Wrt to voice actors, the world of today is far different from the VA world of yesteryear. There's a lot more competition and also less demand for somebody who can do a multitude of bombastic voices. It's rare that you need somebody like Dan Castellaneta or Mel Blanc. Partly I think because if you look at the trends, especially in Western cartoons and animation, the characters' voices are often very close to the voice actors' natural voices.

Re:The new iPad mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:29AM (#50245438)
Can definitely attest to this. When I was doing my PPL I had an iPad that had a built-in cellular modem loaded with ForeFlight for GPS positioning mounted to the inside of the cessna's window.
Re:The new iPad mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:26AM (#50245388)
I think another thing to keep in mind is that there’s probably an element of sensory adaptation at play here. Like when you wear a watch: you notice it at first, and then you don’t notice it on your wrist anymore.

So if you’re actively moving between a high-refresh-rate device (like a lot of people here with their 144hz monitors) and then one with a lower refresh rate, you’re probably more sensitive (and potentially annoyed) by the discrepancy.

Re:Show HN: Ultimidi – piano learning web game on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:06AM (#50245028)
Nice job. I run a relatively popular Simon Ear Training game for piano/guitar (link on my bio if interested) so always happy to see more musical edutainment games.

Some feedback as a musician: in general, you want to avoid a metronome that maps to distinct pitches (in your case, it sounded like E on the downbeat and A on the others) because it can subtly interfere with new learners as they build a mental connection between notes and pitches.
