Thank you for Docker.
>>Containers aren’t real
To me a Docker container is less like a sealed box and more like a 'beam' of processes running through a set of isolation boundaries.

It occurs to me that heavy-duty flying drones could be the ultimate platform for solo skydiving.

I suspect we're going to see a resurgence of local computing because of LLMs, although not in exactly the same way as before.

Google+ had some clever ideas: Circles, Hangouts, integration with Google's ecosystem, etc. But it was designed from a top-down product strategy. Google didn't necessarily make a mistake by trying Google+, but made a mistake by failing to recognize that social graphs are infrastructure; treating social networking as a new product to bolt onto Google, rather than recognizing that Orkut already contained the social graph and behavioral lessons Google needed.
In certain parts of the world an entire lifestyle has been built on the logistics of the old pesticide methods. Good luck getting rid of them. Furthermore, and this matters enormously, Walbachia is still a nuisance. If Walbachia replacement is deployed, a resident can quite reasonably say: “Great, dengue risk is lower, but why am I still getting eaten alive in my backyard?”. That resident may continue demanding spraying, larvicides, traps, pest control, etc.

No rods or reels? As a Shimano fishing enthusiast, I feel slightly underrepresented here. :)

Could they be lying?

There's this little pet project of mine, the Functional Universe [0]. It explores a direction suggested by Dirac: treating mathematical structure and transformation not merely as a language for describing physical reality, but as potentially constitutive of it. FU models physical reality in terms of functional state evolution, with an emphasis on composition, aggregation, and transitions. In that sense, I think there's an interesting point of contact with Dirac's emphasis on transformations: Dirac points toward transformations as fundamental mathematical structures from which physics might be derived; FU asks what happens if physical reality itself is formulated in terms of transitions and their composition.

>>On the winter solstice of December 21, the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere,[clarification needed] the shadow of one of the blocks disappears when the sun is directly above it.
This is not quite right. On that day the Sun is directly above São Paulo.
At the archaeological site: Latitude = +2.62°, Solar declination ≈ −23.44°, Difference = about 26.06°.
Therefore, at solar noon: Sun altitude ≈ 90° − 26.06° = 63.94°. Consequently, at that particular latitude, a normal vertical stone cannot have its shadow disappear because the Sun is directly overhead on December 21.

That's pathetic. Why do people keep doing this?
