Haven't seen them yet. Please point me to the valid points worth considering. Thanks in advance
Empathy is precisely what Amazon and people arguing in favor of Amazon are lacking.
I'm not convinced that a good argument of ethics and empathy could be made without emotions. The whole point of this entire thread is about having empathy for the situation of the workers, which Amazon as a company does not seem to have. If you think you can have an emotion-free Logic And Reason argument involving empathy, I would love to hear it!
I don't know, there's a lot of people who are actively defending Amazon's position and I don't think it's really just casual contemplation in a lot of instances.

It's just not hard to see that these companies are not doing very much to take care of the people who are making these warehouses run, because they are considered to be expendable or replaceable. That's pretty shitty!

If you want to be a sociopath or a robot free of emotions, be my guest. The rest of us live with having emotions. Sorry to tell you that, it's part of what makes people human.
Ahh yes, the higher standards of HN, such as this post you have made in response to mine. Really powerful critique.
There are also grocery delivery services that are not Amazon if you actually care about local grocery stores.
The amount of people trying to defend Amazon in this is absolutely staggering. The amount of people trying to protect what Amazon stands for is revolting. If you are one of these kinds of people you should know that you are the enemy of treating people humanely.
Re:Trolls break into meetings on Zoom on Wednesday April 01, 2020 @12:53AM (#22745825)
I dunno. My boss is an incredibly tech savvy developer and he loves Zoom and thinks it's fantastic so I don't really see it going anywhere for a while.
I can not imagine wanting to work for someplace that doesn't have the infrastructure to allow for remote work. I'm lucky enough to be able to be choosy about who receives my labor and it's unfortunate that some people have to be relegate to working for bosses who fail to connect with people on a basic interpersonal level. It would be a good outcome for allowing remote work to become a new normal. Give the workers the option. You rely on them and your boss job is meaningless without them.
Re:Please consider not adopting Google WebComponents on Tuesday March 17, 2020 @09:45AM (#22604797)
As a web developer for over 15 years, I can safely say that bad decisions will continue to be made. Such as, CSS-in-JS. Expect the worst. And it's not completely Google's fault although they should never have bothered to invent WebComponents, this sort of thing comes from the hubris of CTOs and technical leads who are the ones pushing these various technologies, and the acolytes who desire these positions following suit. Believe it or not, some people like to use certain tech to satisfy their own personal itches and not because the tech is actually demonstrably better.

#1 assuming I am a he, you're already off to a terrible start. #2 seemingly believing that I am the only person who uses this service #3 the point is that it's not a useless service, and real people use and need it. turn on your brain.

UPS and FedEx charge too much, and I do regular media shipping, so No, do not abolish them. If I could direct all of my tax money that goes to the US military into the USPS I would do that. Give them more money.
Not sure that notifying people of the law is actually "your own thoughts".
Can it build complex forms too or is this just "the robot makes a squarespace website"?
High contrast mode is not dark mode.

Wasteful.

Finally fulfilling a ~2013 request that is basically a style sheet. Better late than never I guess
Re:Python Is Eating the World on Monday August 12, 2019 @09:54AM (#20675399)
Once again python is a great language, but the language itself is not the core issue with python
Re:Python Is Eating the World on Monday August 12, 2019 @09:53AM (#20675387)
The virtual env is really the thing that has stopped me from using python. It's a lovely language but the tooling around it needs a lot of help. I'm sure it will get there though. I mean if the js folks can do it, certainly python can.

Sounds like the author of the article has never been involved in the Javascript community.

Just don't build software and then we won't have shit software
So like probably the majority of useful text boxes everyone types into on the internet. Great news, thanks for the info
