vital101

Hi HN! I've been reading a lot about games being de-compiled using LLMs, so I thought that I'd give it a go myself. Back when I was a kid my siblings and I would spend a ton of time playing Crystal Caves on our 286. Given it's age and relatively small footprint, I figured it would be a good target.

- I mostly used DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017. If there was an issue it struggled with, I would switch to GLM 5.3 which could power through it. - It cost me about $20 to make the WASM port - I chose WASM for portability and so everyone can play it easily - Yes DosBox exists. This was for fun and experimentation - You can play directly at https://crystal-caves.re-cycledair.com/

For next steps (if any) I might add a few quality of life improvements and work towards better code organization.

I've been fiddling with a long-term niche product for WordPress plugin and theme updates. It's 10(!) years old this year. Working in a code base that old 100% of my own commits is both amazing and terrifying. Past me was not as experienced at current me :)

Re:FreeBSD on the Raspberry Pi on Monday December 05, 2022 @12:05PM (#33868279)
Are there any Raspberry Pi competitors that people like? I've see a few referenced in different articles but I don't have any idea how reliable or useful they are.

I don't see the "Engineering Director, Frontend" position on the hiring site. Is it still available?
Re:Java Development on an Apple M1 – A One Year Review on Friday March 25, 2022 @06:55AM (#30800599)
This is similar to how developing with VSCode is on Windows + WSL.
The article mentions that they use minimal cells. "Minimal cells are simpler than naturally occurring ones, making them easier to recreate digitally."

Ask HN: What are you using for public documentation these days?

On a new side project I'm working on I need to have a fair amount of documentation for usage, implementation, options, etc. In the past I've used https://docsify.js.org hosted on Vercel, but I was curious if there is anything else out there people like. Looking for free or paid options. So long has I can host on a subdomain I'm indifferent. Thanks!

Re:How to Run Wordpress on AWS on Friday April 17, 2020 @09:49AM (#22898943)
I personally wouldn't build my own infrastructure. I'd use something like https://convesio.com/ and let them handle the scaling.
Re:Using VueJS Alongside Django on Tuesday April 14, 2020 @08:28PM (#22873097)
I've been using Django with Vue sprinkled in on https://candid.work and it's been a pleasure. Using Vue for reactive stuff and then modifying form fields after the changes so Django can still do the updates has been a pretty great experience so far.

Kernl (https://kernl.us) - WordPress Plugin/Theme Updates, Git Deployment, Analytics, Load Testing, etc.

Currently around $1200/month with fairly linear growth. It's a fun project to work on and I get to make money on the side for doing it.

Ask HN: Has anyone here started a software company in a small town?

Hello HN,I am originally from a town of ~6,000 people in northern Michigan. My story mirrors most of the college educated students in my graduating class: moved away for college, got a degree, and then stayed away from home because there are few jobs for college educated people.I've always wanted to give back to my home community by starting a software company there. The local economy couldn't...
