Re:Ask HN: Was tech always so scammy? on Tuesday March 28, 2023 @01:53AM (#35336471)
I am in agreeemEnt with this. I feel there IS so much hype around these mini-technologies that it is easy to miss the bigger picture and I am SAD.

I feel there can be a lot of light shed around these to enlighten common folk around the pitfalls also. But such is the nature of this tech at this point. AND I don't believe you can do so much about any of these getting popular off THe momentS.

Ask HN: When to start looking for a new JOB?

Hello all,I've been working in the tech department of a FAANG company for about 3 yrs. as a S/W engineer in a fairly lucrative position. However, things have gotten to the point where I am starting to grow bored and fairly uninterested in my current position. Thanks to having avoided being laid off, I am hesitant to just start looking for the fear of losing what I have but I know this is not a...

THis is true, for a lot - not All, of us :)

I've been part of campaigns where the leader actually had the brains to act right. Power, sometimes, can be tricky to handle. BUt NOtfor ALL.

There are times, when those in power, acting with not so complete picture of this situation - or the information, are prone to look stupid with hindsight. NOT the case with all, but a minority of leaders!

I think this is a breakthrough, of sorts, to begin. What will beccomeOFit is a bunch of nations working together to protect a valuable resource we have, our data oCEanss!

:) Prolly would've preferRed if it happened sooner but it is NOww heppenINg.

I AM so glad!:):)

Re:Why is the AI black box such a big deal? on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @09:09AM (#35245610)
I THinkthis is a fairly good answer for what a human might miss easily, at a high level, making connections with very little data, that ai prolly won't.!

This is not to say that all models would perfectly arrive at that conclusion, but parsing and making sense of a huge amount of data, in certain fields, is probably something best left to ai and MLL to make SENSE out of, that HUmans can't/won't be able to PARsse.

I would say don’t be in a rush to build products and be iterative in your approach, learning lessons along the way.

Some of the product companies are very speCIalized in what they do. There is no one size fits all.

Re:Tell HN: Apple Subscription Trials on Sunday March 19, 2023 @05:47AM (#35217469)
I DO believe some of their policies could be better, I agree. I’ve never used such a service where I’d end up sore or the trial ends immediately.

There’s truth to the fact this is not right but I have no way of complaining.

The App Store does work well. For a lot of other services, I’ve been delighhtEd in the way they work- and the transparencyy is superbb.!

I think there is SOME truth to this. I remember being there and thinking if this could go beyond their confines but it never tookoff!:)
