Re:Google Will Turn Off Search for Schools That Reject A.I on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @12:02PM (#50354619)
Its all very inorganic and forced. This only fuels the idea of it being a bubble that will pop (not if it will pop)
That is ideal, but unfortunately nobody can afford homes these days so we're stuck with rarely available car ports in apartment complexes with no charging ports.
Re:Anthropic Cracking Down on Video Game Rewrites on Friday October 30, 2026 @01:44PM (#50307500)
Still blows me away that we have 20 years of history showing that this is always the end result and yet people are still surprised when it happens. The memory retention of tech people is like that of a fruit fly.

Anthropics ideology is to make as much money as possible. Part of that is dodging lawsuits from the likes of Nintendo
We're due for a recession to wipe out all this irrationality that has been cooking for the last 20 years. I say let it fail.
To be fair, people can't afford COL by opening a coffee shop in this day and age.
Re:Google value plunges by $500B as AI fears rattle Wall Street on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:40PM (#50299244)
In our fake monopoly money economy, the line always goes up!
Is this inflation adjusted?
Re:The October inflection point for vibe game development on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:29PM (#50281847)
Oh no the horror of having to learn a skill needed to accomplish what you want!

I wonder if I can ask AI to make me a millionaire so I don't have to put in the effort to do it myself.

Compiler output is deterministic and does exactly what you told it through the C code. Not some random mishmash of partially working slop thrown together from other stolen code.
The whole package manager system is a complete disaster. A huge number of dependencies are pulled in that go unused in most projects, so the number of downloads is an extremely unreliable number. I'd be surprised if more than 10% of those downloads actually use the brotli decoder.
Re:AI compute is the new oil–and needs a new market on Thursday October 22, 2026 @10:07PM (#50203697)
History has proven that businesses will relentlessly and needlessly raise prices to increase revenue quarter over quarter.

The oligarchy propping each other up?
Re:A farewell to Arc browser on Thursday October 22, 2026 @01:07PM (#50198181)
How about by making money like businesses used to do in the olden days
I think Anthropic and OpenAI are seeking rent on every action a developer can take. That's why their TAM is the worlds entire GDP
Re:"I'm on a War Footing": Terry Tao and the Crisis in Math on Monday October 19, 2026 @08:58AM (#50151892)
> human beings distracted from the real task at hand (eliminating poverty, hunger, human suffering) as usual.

We've already had this solved for a long time, but nobody has implemented it yet. Automating math isn't going to get us closer.

The rich and the corporations are the ones currently the one looting the treasury, not the common folk like the quote implies

The destruction brought by AI continues unabated
Re:I know why Mathematicians weep on Friday October 16, 2026 @09:00AM (#50117858)
> Would doctors weep if cancer is cured by AI?

The pharama and medical PE companies will definitely weep as a source of their income is lost

Re:I know why Mathematicians weep on Friday October 16, 2026 @08:28AM (#50117559)
The people at the top of the hierarchy are not very intelligent or engineer minded, so the more likely result of all of this simply to genocide the population. That's easier than trying to solve logistics.
Re:I know why Mathematicians weep on Friday October 16, 2026 @08:22AM (#50117505)
Modern day society has normalized being forced to sit in a cubicle or at your desk otherwise face the wrath of managers for not working, despite massive increases in technology that multiplied productivity.

I have no idea where people get this pipe dream that suddenly societal norms will change such that our employers will let us off the hook for most of the day. This should be obvious with the largely abandoned work-from-home allowances.

Re:Opus 5.5 made our product launch video (linked) on Thursday October 15, 2026 @01:00PM (#50106661)
I've already started seeing AI generated ads on Twitter and it fills me with utter disgust. Ads were already misleading and full of lies, AI just compounds the issue.

Pretty much all of the no longer existing empires. Roman empire, perhaps.
