Maybe our engineering jobs will consist of reviewing AI-generated PRs all day…
I was once interested in how self publishing actually works so I spent an hour or two putting a pdf together with Chuck Norris facts that I found on the internet and published it as a paperback. The book is still up for sale, I've made more than $10,000 from it.
looks at weather report for southern france for this weekThat’s a very mild summer, I’m located in Southern California where my nights are warmer than your peak day temperatures. During daytime it can be over 45 degrees Celsius. But ACs are everywhere so it makes it livable. I’m guessing most homes in Europe don’t have that.
Over and over again I'm drawn back to this centuries old Stoic principle: stop worrying about things that you can't control. Because, like this article mentions, most things are outside of your control.
I've just tested this by clicking on one of the notes in the Twitter app: it opens up an ugly webview which I'm not logged into... and it's suggesting to download and use the app for a better experience (I was already on the app!).
Or when they suspend you for no reason...
Yeah but it takes forever to get off the waitlist (I've been waiting for almost a year)
I paid for LA Times but it logged me out so frequently that it became very frustrating to use. NY Times on the other hand never logs me out.

Have you ever been to Santa Monica or San Diego?
I agree with you in principle but having worked a lot with cheaper contractors overseas, in practice you are often wasting time and money.
It almost feels like we were in a bubble this whole time.
I feel strangely assured to know that Mercedes Benz will be paying thru their nose when I’m dead
When you have a complex system that produces nth-order effects, then the only approach is to treat it as empirical phenomena (aka black box magic), and that is what most research papers in this field do.
Yep once you lose the trust, it’s over. There’s plenty of players out there that can offer the same.
> (1) Healthiest = great social circle at work that bleeds into social circle out of work
Lol, in my experience mixing groups of friends has rarely been a good idea.
The concept of an online high school may sound terrible, but sooner or later it’s bound to happen: quality education will keep consolidating until there’s one super school left.
Outlier is doing the same thing but on the college level: why deal with a mediocre local math teacher if you can get taught by the best?
> These laws have been abolished as of January 1, 2020. Insulting the King, the Royal Consort, the heir apparent or their consort, or the Regent, is now punishable on the same level as public officials in their official capacity, which adds one third to the maximum severity of the punishment for regular criminalisation of insulting of three months in prison (maximum) and/or a fine.
Not really abolished, just a lower punishment.
It's not being charged with terrorism, but you can go to jail in the Netherlands for insulting the King:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36799639> The Netherlands' lese majeste law dates from 1881 and carries sentences of up to five years jail or a fine of 20,000 euros ($22,200; £16,700).
When I was 7, my mom thought it was a good idea to buy me a Batman comic book (not realizing it was meant for adults). There was a particular scene where the Joker knocks on the door of the police commissioner's house. His daughter opens the door, and the Joker shoots her in her stomach, while smiling. [1]
The next 2 years, I was terrified of any doors that would open to dark rooms.
