It depends on the type of app. If I expect few concurrent writes and don't need RLS, then sqlite. If the application is write heavy I am happy to get RLS for free by picking Postgres.

The DB choice is independent of the language. The language might be Python, Go or C# depending on the usecase.

Nobody knows what the world will look like in 6-12 months, but for now demand for three technical positions has risen (1) Forward-deployed engineer = you are a technical consultant solving business process problems with AI for enterprise clients, (2) cyber security expert = you defend companies against the massive wave of AI-facilitated attacks, (3) GTM engineer = A data-driven, self-improving AI-backed marketing/sales/growth system.
Absolutely not. Expressing everything indirectly and with a high degree of surface level positivity is the most essential skill in any sufficiently large org.
It's already happening. Cost of capital is increasing, Nvidia and SK Hynix going down. This will follow the patterns of a "real demand but overbuilt" bubble like railway back in the day.

I personally plant to buy GPUs in about 18 months.

Let me spell out the loophole: Just don't use packaging. Redesign your product so it comes in a sturdy container that makes it integral part of the product itself and completely side steps the obligations here.
I really don't understand Paul's reasoning here. Does he predict more scarcity on the model-level? That layer seems to be almost a commodity now + training is damn expensive.

If you are really 17, my advice is to identify use-case for AI (ideally relevant for businesses) that work most of the time and find ways to make them work pretty much every time. AI reliability is the scarcity right now.

If you are a small maker and looking for the loophole here, this is it: "PPWR excludes an object where it is genuinely an integral part of the product, necessary to contain/support/preserve it throughout its lifetime and intended to remain with it."

Ask HN: Is Traditional SaaS Dying?

I think a good proxy for the question is: Does your employer try to replicate some SaaS features in-house? And do these experiments mostly succeed? My data points: Two internal projects to replace Hubspot and Float. Hubspot will be kept, Float will be replaced.

I said "with" and not "at". I was tasked with doing interviews and reshaping the interview process as multiple companies within the last 18 months through fractional roles, consulting and co-founding.

It would be so much better if PG was not forced to write this essay. Everyone and that includes AOC has a right to free speech, but I believe that mandatory platform context would really help the internet. For example, here:

"Earning your fruits of labor morally as opposed to the mere market value of labor and capital is a concept derived from Karl Marx' Theory of Alienation. More than 15 million people have died under socialist rule from starvation alone."

Not wrong. But my statement is true across organizations I have worked with in the past year, several of them not AI-native.

Just trying to fix the misunderstanding: I am not saying that you will have a literal 25 seconds meeting with your boss's boss. I am just making a math argument taking typical orgchart ratios.

So let me take this a step further. You want to meet your boss' boss for 10 minutes to present them something. 10 minutes of his time are an equivalent of more than 20 hours of your time. So if your initial idea was to "take maybe 1-2h" to prepare for this -> You are underprepared by at least one order of magnitude.

Often the hiring manager will have the person to be hired somewhere in his report chain. So if a person can't effectively communicate and can't properly respond to a "I only have 2 minutes, shoot", then I am getting a future liability into the company that will slow down all future communications.

I much rather prefer someone who needs 3 seconds to triage a question and tell me: "This is X, I know this, here is the solution" or "This is Y, I don't know it, but I will get back to you within 24h".

I do absolutely not want a "Well let's think jointly about this for a couple of minutes". There is no jointly with your boss. Let's do a some math of a 1:12 manager to direct report ratio. That means for every hour you have, your boss only has 5 minutes. And if you talk to your boss' boss, they have 25 seconds for every of your hours.

True, but please don't give job seekers false hope with this statement. I commonly see 60 - 180 applicants for one open position. Good luck finding a hiring manager who wants to take a bet instead of going with proven experience.

I think upskilling is the right move in this environment and it is dead simple: Invest a couple of days to show initiative, learn agents yourself and be able to speak from true experience.

Replying as a hiring manager since this might help other post-grad job seekers:

- Any long-winded answer to a question is immediate out and has been for years.

- Not having used agents and not being able to comment on what to do and what not to do with them is immediate out since early this year.

Try pet biohacking. You can experiment with the food they consume, their gut microbiome, you can implant robotics into them, so many fun things.

Btw: If you intend to blog about it make sure your alias resides in a jurisdiction without conversative laws.

Saving Bitcoin | Cryptographic Engineer & Protocol Engineer | Remote (global)

Given the latest quantum algorithmic advances by Google, Bitcoin is expected to be fully broken by 2029. In this position you will design post-quantum cryptography that goes beyond the BIP-360 stopgap to fully solve the quantum threat on Bitcoin and transition it safely into the post quantum age.

Please describe your cryptographic experience, your Bitcoin experience and the flavor of PQ-crypto that you believe can save BTC. Apply to: [email protected]

That was great fun, an interactive refresher on my EE studies. Thank you so much for creating it.

If anybody can create something similarly interactive, educational and hands-on for microbiology or robotics, I am happy to sponsor your cost.

Small & Stealthy | Full-Stack & DevOps Engineer | REMOTE (Global) | Flexible

We’re a small team in stealth. Opinionated stack:

- PocketBase backend

- Next.js frontend

- VPS infrastructure we manage ourselves

- Bash scripts that Slack us when things catch fire

No Jira. No standups. No corporate theater. Async-first. Quick huddles only when necessary. During interviews: camera once, then never again.

We need one high-agency human who:

- Ships fast and takes full ownership

- Actually understands how to use agentic LLMs to multiply output

- Is comfortable on raw Linux servers (cron, logs, 5xx debugging, etc.)

- Prefers getting things done over process

- TDD-first: Pytest + Playwright to verify PocketBase and Next.js code

You will own infra, backend, frontend and dev velocity.

Email: [email protected]

(Burner. We'll reply from a different address.)

I read in a couple of comments that you are worried about "bothering people". To be honest, don't worry about it, you can attribute sufficient life skills to others to simply tell you (verbally or non-verbally) in case they feel bothered.
Whole-heartedly dislike the article. Again a form of being atypical neurologically is framed as a pathology. "You are insufficiently clingy to be a good human, and the reason is your childhood trauma".
