News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Why do they put large categories such as 'Supermarkets' and 'Banks' next to specific companies like 'Google' or 'Facebook'. Surely 'Search engines' or 'Social media sites' would be more appropriate?

That actually looks like a domain holding page when you glance at it...

My http://glasgow.gov.uk isn't any better

Ahhhh, I get ya. Makes sense.

I think the design is why it works. Nice and simple - a lot of this stuff is over designed I find.

Will get using it and provide feedback if I have it!

I like this, great on my iPad. Any plans for a mobile version?

Also, what do you the stars signify? And I think Lifehacker is showing double links.

"How big is this page?

Huge! The exact size depends on the screen resolution on your PC, but the page is almost 1 mile (1.6 Km) high and 800 feet (250 m) wide."

Wow - pretty crazy.

This is where I'd put my pithy, scorning response.
Re:Dom's laptop is in Iran on Thursday April 11, 2013 @01:02PM (#5533230)
For some reason I find pictures of people's faces when they're using computers really off putting. Every has this hollow, empty expression, like they're looking into some void.

But these people probably didn't knowingly buy a stolen laptop. That kind of reselling happens all the time.

Re:Hijacking airplanes with an Android phone on Thursday April 11, 2013 @12:53PM (#5533159)
So in reality this is just link bait? He can't crash a plane with his phone?
Not the way to do it, Apple.

But this is an amazing way to deal with the situation. He's frank, honest and comes off looking like he's got the situation under control. Marketing types should bookmark this for future reference - great way to address a situation.

Re:EE to double 4G download speeds in UK on Tuesday April 09, 2013 @07:47AM (#5517463)
Good news - although their download caps are pathetic so you're just gonna hit them quicker.

Was more interested in how carrier aggregation works though. Quite interesting: http://www.3gpp.org/Carrier-Aggregation-explained

EDIT: Probably a better explanation: http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/cellulartelecomms/lte-...

Re:Some tips on how to be a better listener on Tuesday April 09, 2013 @04:01AM (#5516943)
Totally. I also hate the idea that everyone's opinion is valid and should be revered. I know very little about nuclear reactors, so my opinion isn't as valid as someone who actually knows stuff about nuclear reactors. It's what makes radio phone ins so stupid to me - "Here's builder Phil from Plymouth with his opinion on quantitative easing" ????
Re:Smart TVs are dumb on Tuesday April 09, 2013 @03:57AM (#5516934)
An Apple TV is a good device for me - especially if you just want a device that works simply, has Netflix etc. and has a fairly decent UI. Plus airplay and the music streaming stuff if you have iTunes match is pretty nice.

Would love to be able to plug my hdd in and play videos from it, but it's not that kind of device and jailbreaking seems like a bit of a hassle at this point. Plus, when the girlfriend wants to watch Netflix and it's running some strange Linux distro I might get a bit told off...

It doesn't fit all of our video needs (we have Sky, PS3 for dvds etc.) but it's worth it for netflix alone, imo.

Re:Some tips on how to be a better listener on Tuesday April 09, 2013 @02:57AM (#5516804)
I think it's surprising how many people grow up without the ability to listen to other people. It's a fundamental part of almost all relationships yet I think it's sidelined by many people in favour of having strong opinions and cool stories (not a bad thing either) - especially in a work situation where being right isn't what's always important.

I'm guilty of it sometimes as well, so will keep these in mind. Thanks!

A side of the space programme I've never seen before.

Re:Experience the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing on Sunday April 07, 2013 @12:02PM (#5507595)
I really, really hope I get to see this before I die. Space travel is something that has lost it's cultural significance (for some valid reasons, Columbia, Challenger etc) but to have something that the whole world can come together and be a part of would be incredible. Almost how the Eco movement started when images of the pale blue dot were circulated, would love to see something similar.
Re:Donating my Xbox on Sunday April 07, 2013 @08:14AM (#5506937)
It's funny that in some ways iOS and Android, arguably the most widely used gaming systems atm, actually foster the kind of games he's talking about wanting to make.

There's still the mainstream bro games, but it does seem developers have more of a chance to make a living off their ideas.

Re:Experience the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing on Saturday April 06, 2013 @04:12PM (#5504856)
Oh, wow. That was stunning. Heart in my mouth the entire time, I cannot imagine what it was like to watch that in real time.

Always worth a read for more context and 'Moonshot' is pretty good for Apollo 11.
