Well I use it on my personal site: the colors change with the weather and seasons [1]. Oklab’s so-what is that the hues are perceptually a uniform brightness, unlike HSL (which I started with) where blues and reds look a lot brighter than greens and yellows at the same saturation/lightness.
So in my case where color shifting is happening, Oklab actually helps. I don’t know how it’s better than HSL for simple UI elements unless maybe you can get physically brighter values that pop out more on certain screens.

I politely disagree. What does Tim Berners Lee’s opinion of anything have to do with anything? What use is Latex when I want a readable hardcopy of a web page?
A bailout would be a slap in the face when the correct solution is to nationalize them. If they are too big to fail then the government gets a controlling share of equity and we finally start the sovereign wealth fund we should have started decades ago.
Just look at what we do relative to other countries that get better results. Teacher pay is abysmal, teacher-student ratios are abysmal. Lack of social safety nets mean our schools end up being the backstop of last resort for children who are hungry and stressed and whose parents are overworked and stressed. We have this stupid obsession with testing all the time (best practice is no homework and no tests). But hey, if you can afford it you can pay for a private school or homeschool and contribute to the further starvation of the public system.
In what way is education not a solved problem? We know how to get great educational results. People either don't care or actively hate the solutions.
Weird. I think I might have made three returns to Amazon in 30 years of ordering from them. I research the shit out of just about everything I buy, if I have to return something it's because I either got very cleverly scammed or had a literal stroke before I made the purchase.
Thanks. I'm astonished how poorly written and poorly argued the piece is. No discussion or even mention of existing SWFs. Trying to frame SWFs as something leftists should oppose because of… some vague hand-waving about an Edwardian policy?
SWFs are a great tool for reducing inequality and influencing corporate governance. see, e.g. https://peoplespolicyproject.org/project/creating-an-alaska-...
I can’t read the article. Do they explain how it’s more imperialist than what we have now?
Using capital ownership to distribute the proceeds of an industry whose raw material was the creative output of everyone everywhere … seems like the neatest and most obvious possible solution to AI displacement and provenance. But I can see how it might make a few dozen people less likely to be billionaires.
That's because you don't eat dinner until 10pm
Sure, but the fact that Opus 5.5 was such a huge leap over Opus 5 (and Fable 5.1 for that matter) means that it's worth revisiting your priors on a new Sonnet.
Just a guess but maybe they decided 5.1 wasn't their last Opus model. Like they would keep developing new versions of it or something.
This reminds me. I've always been confused by how comic book writers/artists choose when to use which words to put in bold. It's often not what I would have expected and sounds funny if read aloud that way.
The language here means that signers are affirming that they continue to write at least some code by hand, not that they never use AI tools for coding. I'm not sure that's enough virtue to deserve its own signal.
edit to add: the irony of the grammatical error in this presumably hand-written sentence inside the "Who's behind this?" link:
> Jared’s web studio Whitefusion is currently partnering with quality businesses & organizations which believe in staying away from costly hype cycles and the value of the human touch.
Someone should assemble a chain of iPhone camera review comparison images published over the years, 18 → 17, 17 → 16, 16 → 15 etc. showing how each year's new phone being so much better than the previous year's somehow becomes perceivably bad next to the next year's phone.

Well, countries have experienced moderate inflation and moderate deflation, ask the ones who lived through both which one they preferred.
We can have these micro easter eggs clearly indicating that flawed humans were involved, or we can have perfectly proofread Opusplaining. Enjoy the former while you can!
Is there any hint that Siri can be connected to arbitrary MCP providers?

OK I see, thank you. The idea of "the planet running out of water" confused me.
What's funny is that, being a claude code user, I don't need to give someone else's python package a 24/7 back door into all my activity, I can just make my own.
How does the planet run out of water?

I have a pet theory that the Opus prose style/smell we all have grown weary of is due at least in part to the models writing more for themselves and each other than for humans. They're packing lots of signal into fewer words and they don't care if it sounds cringe because it works better as glue in long-running tasks.
I'm also thinking of the 2017 novel "Void Star" where AIs who operate everything have long since left ceased bothering with human languages, and it takes a rare sort of direct matrix-gazing savant to be able to try and horse-whisper them into doing or revealing anything they didn't already plan to do.
I had heard of this and actually did set the reasoning to medium ahead of time…
Not only do I produce standalone executables in Racket, I cross-compile GUI apps written on MacOS to produce executables for Windows.
