Re:Ask HN: What happens when "everyone" codes? on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @10:44AM (#50353417)
I don't think everyone wants to code. I think a lot of people never think of developing and wouldn't even if it was easy. Some people always wanted to develop and couldn't, for whatever reason, and now more or less can to some capacity. How many people today even use PCs for recreational purposes?
If you can develop something that doesn't appear to be obviously developed with LLMs, what is the point of disclosing it? It serves no positive purpose for the developer.

Yes these ports are awesome. I ported his ProTracker 2 port to android back in February. Still use it from time to time.
Re:Show HN: ReBirth 338 in Browser on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @09:20AM (#50352329)
yeah this was a response to that. i think most people are attracted to this program because of its sound and aeshetic. I mean its not hard at all to set up a rack with 2 303's, an 808 and a 909. That's why I figured that it should be available in it's original state, rather than a copy
How is anyone going to prove it?
Why anyone would willingly do this is beyond me. It's like putting a sticker on your own back that says "Kick me"

Wasn't the software side of Polyend always the worst part? Good on them for doing this

It's kind of like an active way of reading, also like others said, you're forced to read ever word, painstakingly. I find it fun first and foremost

No email required, it's just to save progress across devices.

Gamified elements for some reason are an incentive for me. Combos when you get long streaks without errors. Can load epubs and plain text. Options for typing letters/punctuation/case. I actually got the idea from typ.ing, but there was stuff that I wanted to see that I couldn't find on other typing sites. Also I kept losing progress which I found to be really frustrating

Updated this little project. I have never personally used a project I developed more than this one. I've spent 76 hours typing books since August 28th, 2026. Latest update is in place that allows you to type only case insensitive letters, instead of worrying about punctuation and case. It's a much faster and more enjoyable experience. Though, if you're a masochist, hard mode can be enabled in...

this makes me long for the past. why does this feel so safe and cozy? gents?
they might as well stop using any software, if not now, within 1-2 years.

Re:Advanced coding in low-resource programming languages on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @02:22PM (#50170484)
I thought LLMs had been good at this for a while? I vibed a language out and the LLM could write in it pretty well. I even got Qwen 3.8 to write it (though it was pretty slow, it managed to get it done)
Maybe it has to do with people losing their minds at the mention of it? Spend however long on a game, for some random to come out the woodwork and attempt to invalidate everything because you decided to disclose.
You know you can make your UI not look like AI wrote it, with AI, right?

Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @02:23PM (#50155967)
Did I say programmers haven't done anything culturally significant? No, clearly not. I'm saying the vast majority of all programmers have not done anything culturally significant
I thought Rich Hickey's sand cookie analogy was more apt than this bed shitting one.
Re:AI companies are coming for the plumbers on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:50PM (#50154712)
I worked with plumbers on a daily basis for a number of years. The masters were generally never actually plumbing for the most part. I would say 95% of them did not treat plumbing as an intellectual exercise. Of course, this is just an anecdote. I heard the "your shit is my bread and butter" hundreds of times from different plumbers thinking it was comedies final joke.
Doesn't that imply that there's nothing inherently wrong about shitting in someone's bed and then sleeping in it?
Re:AI companies are coming for the plumbers on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:32PM (#50154449)
I think the worst part of it is that we are forced to value ourselves based on our jobs. Of course, there's no easy to answer to what everyone would do if no one had to work again.

I don't think people would choose to fix toilets to survive if they didn't have to

Re:AI companies are coming for the plumbers on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:13PM (#50154208)
It was inevitable. Who want's to pay an extra bundle for a plumber to come in and destroy a bunch of walls to fix a clogged pipe? No job is safe.
Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:01PM (#50154043)
I think it's definitely not accurate to say that these people have not made anything significant. It sounds like coping. How many programmers have made anything culturally significant? How many are just codemonkeys who fulfill someone else's requests, take their cheques, and go home?

In my opinion, the whole anti-LLM coding thing is purely ego preservation. And I get that, who the hell want's to believe their high paying job is going away? To say using LLMs cannot achieve results bigger than 'one-shotting a note taking app' is really just not true.

Comparing it to NFTs is absolutely wild also. NFTs literally were mass psychosis and had no value whatsoever. You're saying someone can't build software, even just for themselves, or otherwise, that doesn't have any value at all? How could that be true?
