Show HN: I made a game about the 3k-year evolution of Chinese characters

https://chinese.vedranb.com/

I've always found it fun to explore the history of Chinese characters. Some modern characters are unrecognizable from what they represent, while others still look similar to the versions carved in turtle shells over 3,000 years ago!I built a Heardle-inspired game where you guess the meaning of a Chinese character as it gradually transforms back through time to a more pictographic version. Let me...

We end up re-solving this at every company I've been at, so can definitely see the need. How does it work with remote and local MCP servers?

I had the same disappointing experience unfortunately. The best experience I had was actually the Fantasy Forest tech demo, which was hard to find. https://www.tiltfive.com/lab/fantasy-forest-tech-demo

The book "Boys Adrift: The Five Factors Driving the Growing Epidemic of Unmotivated Boys and Underachieving Young Men" by Leonard Sax goes into a lot of detail behind some of the underlying problems causing this.

Reminds me of Dynamicland: https://dynamicland.org/ from Bret Victor.

Related: A documentary[0] about Daniel Tammet[1] who also has synesthesia and set the European record for reciting pi from memory by recounting to 22,514 digits in five hours and nine minutes.

This is great. I've been thinking about doing something similar with cartoon characters to build a Disney-style companion for my son as he gets older. I'm imagining something like an Alexa assistant but with Mickey Mouse's voice.
Re:Ask HN: What projects are you working on now? on Saturday March 21, 2020 @04:18PM (#22649663)
I'm building what I hope is an educational and entertainment project for when my son is older. It's a cross between Dynamicland[1] and Osmo[2], that combines a projector, camera, and computer vision to hopefully bring programming and creativity out of the monitor and into a semi-real world. I'm just designing the system now and I posted on reddit[3] to ask the machine learning community for advice. I'm also reaching out to computer vision engineers to offer to pay them for a few hours of their time via Zoom to get advice. Some examples of similar systems are [4] and [5].

I don't have a name for this yet.

Agreed. I much prefer the style of rematch[1] where you bind directly to the actions rather than creating a constant to check for in a switch statement

That lab was the most fun I've ever had with a homework assignment (too bad my own school didn't offer it...). I got it off the CMU website as well.

A couple of years ago I did a (mostly) full walkthrough of the Binary Bomb, and it still gets a lot of hits during the semester. If anyone is curious: http://www.vedranb.com/post/19338235616/phase-1

This can be done by searching for a person's name, clicking "see more results for X". Then click on the magnifying glass beside the person's profile, and click photos.

In addition to the comments regarding exercise causing an increase in the length of one's life, don't forget about the dramatic increase in the quality of life due to exercise. If you feel better you'll be more productive.

Amazing story, but is it just me or does that article load as one massive block of pain-in-the-ass-to-read text?

For anyone who's thinking of using Ruby I recommend OilyPNG instead of RMagick. It's a c extension to ChunkyPNG and is much faster if you don't need all of the fancy filters that come with ImageMagick.
