Re:Uber vs. Lyft: From The Driver’s Seat on Thursday December 04, 2014 @11:55PM (#8703063)
Holy hell is that off-putting. I had a few coupons for Lyft but I'll pass.

I should mention, though, that you can have the healthy culture of driver respect at a place like Lyft with the professionalism of Uber. Sounds like the sweet spot to me.

Re:Trailblazer: A new architecture for Rails on Friday November 28, 2014 @07:00PM (#8672597)
How is this not called Railblazer?
I'd like to initiate an animation based on a button event (clicking another object). Am I missing that feature?
...responsively.

Their website for a new browser is ironically aggravating.
Re:Boarding Pass Redesign on Wednesday August 28, 2013 @06:01PM (#6292989)
I have this nagging urge to take a step back and examine the necessity for a piece of paper in the first place.
Re:The Selfies are Coming. The Selfies are Here (Part 2) on Wednesday August 28, 2013 @02:27PM (#6291746)
Mandatory timeout means that even the best photos go away. No proliferation of the beautiful and perfect, no buildup of the quick and dirty.

Every one dies.

Re:Amazon's profits on Friday August 09, 2013 @12:35AM (#6183773)
They reinvest heavily. It's sad that my interview didn't result in an offer. I really love Amazon.
Re:“Weird Paranoia” at Valve, Says Former Employee on Tuesday July 09, 2013 @06:14PM (#6015984)
I'd add that trust is a critical component of flat structures. If you lose it, or feel threatened and react accordingly, it shifts power around in a way that will ultimately unbalance the ship.
Re:Show HN: An Open Source Number Game on Wednesday May 22, 2013 @10:41PM (#5755045)
Really needs an indicator that tells you how many moves you have in a given turn, which goes down as you click.

Re:Poor Man’s Agile: Scrum in 5 Simple Steps on Wednesday March 20, 2013 @02:18AM (#5405908)
Short of actually making (good, working) stuff, informed and merciless prioritization is the most important thing you can do in producing software.
Re:EA apologises over 'dumb' SimCity launch on Monday March 11, 2013 @09:52AM (#5356639)
Nothing they have done or said strikes me as an honest admission of guilt, sorrow or concern.
Re:The new SimCity on Tuesday March 05, 2013 @09:09PM (#5328869)
Or the insanely small limitations on city size.
It's partially a stealth layoff.

For that money I want a real OS.
Re:HTML5 color palette tool on Friday February 15, 2013 @05:19PM (#5229033)
Neat. How do I add grays?
Re:Flat Pixels on Tuesday February 12, 2013 @12:11PM (#5208029)
Took the words out of my mouth. I can't believe we're still debating this as if it's one or the other.

An important clarification but I still feel great pride at fellow gamers showing people what's what.

Really interesting point of view - thanks.

Do you participate at other sites, like IndieGoGo? I ask because I have a project that I think would get traction but KS has strange rules around some types of projects and mine is excluded.

I call this "container hell."
Re:Almost Flat Design on Wednesday January 23, 2013 @10:54PM (#5107123)
I don't think we should avoid having opinions on this; I just think it's overdiscussed.

In the spirit of you calling me out, I will say that most of what Apple does (particularly in iOS) is beautiful and usable.

Re:Almost Flat Design on Wednesday January 23, 2013 @06:30PM (#5106037)
I've been doing "almost flat" for years because it's the simplest expression of a design without gutting affordances.

Things that are interactive look interactive, and these attributes are only used for that practical purpose and never for pure decoration.

I really don't understand why this is even a debate. Do we need a daily post talking about how Apple's overwrought, realism aesthetic is tacky (it often is) and how flat design is too flat (which it is)?

This issue has officially reached dead horse status.

Re:I want the world to scroll this way on Friday January 11, 2013 @12:11PM (#5043626)
So it's basically incremental paging with a lot more work.
