Product Manager will let you know what people are requesting but sometimes the requester is a clueless manager.

Working tech support will tell you what real users are having trouble with and sometime they have really great ideas for features.

Never gonna happen. The bulk of their business comes from the "good" guys
The exploit is so severe they are releasing patches for xp and server 2003

Ballot boxes ended up in rivers and lakes when it was pen and paper. You need both. This is a good start.
I'd say being thrown in prison qualifies as "violence".

John Gabriel has a decent one: Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory. Or GIFT for short.
Mom and Pop used a rigged machine to cheat customers out of their money.
Because every idiot with access to the internet can instantly spread any nonsense they want to millions of people. In the past, this type of nonsense was filtered by editors and such at media companies.

Shallower === cheaper

They tried to lay fiber in 2in trenches instead of typical 6in trenches. Then left when it didn't work. This isn't Goliath beating David. This is David throwing a rock, missing, and going home.
Re:How I Made A Chicken Play Tic-Tac-Toe (2017) on Wednesday March 13, 2019 @06:04PM (#19384371)
My kids still sometimes make fun of me for losing to a chicken. I've done battle with it multiple times over the years. Where is the switch to toggle the mode?
Re:Ask HN: How do you know what your users want? on Wednesday March 13, 2019 @02:30PM (#19381863)
We've had success with direct communication.

Tell your users to call or email of they have questions or problems. Then personally speak with them.

You will find loads of valuable things you can do for them or find significant pain points to address.

As for sorting signal and noise, you have to find generic solutions if possible. Example: if you have any kind of reports or tables etc you will have people asking you to add, remove, rearrange them. Users will get very upset that their "really important" field isn't available. And you could add this field but then the next person will come along. So give them some options to add, remove, rearrange fields so they can get what they need without coming to you first.

Re:Canada grounds Boeing 737 Max 8 on Wednesday March 13, 2019 @01:19PM (#19381003)
It is a calculated gamble. We've seen this so many time in so many industries.
Re:Canada grounds Boeing 737 Max 8 on Wednesday March 13, 2019 @12:42PM (#19380496)
They have more than 5000 orders for this model of aircraft. Each one costs approx 120million. Which means there are approx $640 billion dollars on the line. It is imperative that Boeing keeps it's reputation and grounding flights would destroy it.
Not really. Knowing how to write an "if" is a lot different than wanting, or being able, to code professionally.

What we really need is basic computer literacy since most jobs will use software to accomplish things. Coding skills may help people work with the expert systems they will use at work.

Those days never existed. Which is why certs, app stores, and walled gardens exist.
Re:Airtable Became a Unicorn by Reinventing the Spreadsheet on Tuesday February 26, 2019 @09:31AM (#19254544)
It did both. Databases are big scary things to many people. They made it accessible by using a spreadsheet as a user interface.
Re:MySigMail – UI Email Signature Generator on Thursday February 21, 2019 @11:46AM (#19218123)
Nothing happened to it. If you like your one liner, keep using it. You don't have to use this tool.
Re:Samsung’s Foldable Phone Is the $1,980 Galaxy Fold on Wednesday February 20, 2019 @04:14PM (#19212054)
The led panel is flexible. LG has a 1mm screen you can roll up in a tube.
Re:I Hit $115k/Month with a Status Quo Improvement on Wednesday February 20, 2019 @04:09PM (#19211997)
Because you are making a ton of assumptions. I'm sure there are some spammers using this service. But I'm sure there are lots of legitimate users too.

What is the environmental cost of building and running physical banks?
The domain likely has tradeshows, trade publications, bloggers/influencers, etc.
This is key. People will talk a big game and then make excuses why they can't pay. Make a version and sell it.
They got a click. Mission accomplished.

Yes
> Having a conversation was a learning experience for him and his team?

Of course not. It's boilerplate CEO speak. It's a way of "answering" the question without making any commitments and seems to terminate any further discussion.

Joe Rogan and Sam Harris discuss this on Joe Rogans podcast #1241

Re:You Can Now Run Windows 10 on the Raspberry Pi 3 on Wednesday February 13, 2019 @12:30PM (#19154759)
It's going to be slow, even for basic tasks
Re:Google Docs gets an API for task automation on Tuesday February 12, 2019 @10:44AM (#19144404)
It's a tool for motivated non-programmers to get things done.
Someone will forget their laptop, or won't have wifi, or the power will die, or the link doesn't work or won't have the right pdf/doc reader, or will respond to that notification they just got distracting everyone with their clickity clack, etc.

Making the presenter bring everything needed to have a distraction free conversation is a feature, not a bug.
