I'd love to give it a spin if you ever publish it.
Re:I Hate Cookie Consent on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:54PM (#50249077)
I had the same kneejerk reaction to the title, but reading the article reveals that it's instead an investigation into how despite clicking the reject button, some advertising tags have already fired/will fire the next time the site is loaded, not honoring the user's choice. It's not yet another complaint about having to see banners.
Re:Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed on Saturday October 24, 2026 @04:34AM (#50219292)
I don't think older/busier people who regularly fall prey to scams even in the current system would be thrilled to assume more responsibility for their financial safety.
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @02:12PM (#50170344)
You are correct, sorry. I should verify stuff like this before posting.
Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @07:47AM (#50164864)
I seem to recall the leaked Liang Wenfeng speech gave a figure of 8-12(?) months of inference recouping the training costs of the model.

> Maybe the answer is to partner LLMs with Common Lisp

Autolith (https://autolith.rocks/) and some other CL-based harnesses allow the LLM to modify their own harness within the session.

Sorry, I really was thinking of the order of operations wrong!
Re:Make Math Automatic with Mathy on Saturday September 26, 2026 @06:21AM (#49855099)
When testing I got a question asking what -3² is, with the intended answer being -9 instead of 9.
Re:Solitaire Alone Together on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @01:03PM (#49804511)
For "Solitaire Together" instead, I recommend the game NERTS (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1131190/NERTS_Online/). It's a multiplayer competitive solitaire game by Zachtronics. Out of all the games I've played, it's the one that stresses me out and takes me through emotional rollercoasters the most.
Re:Socrates vs. the Written Word (2011) on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @07:06AM (#49799340)
Even in the quote given in this article, most instances of the word "word" are "logos" in Greek, which means something closer to speech, argument, reasoning, logic, etc. This doesn't really change the meaning of the quote dramatically, but some slight nuance is lost.
I'd like to hear how this compares to Ada/SPARK.
Re:On Really Trying (2009) on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @03:34AM (#49622690)
Interesting article to share on the eve of yesterday's debacle about the Navier-Stokes problem.

Maybe another quote to add to the list is about Bob Widlar (from https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/news/bob-widlar-silicon-val...):

> In 1965, Widlar left Fairchild to work at National Semiconductor. While there, he released his design for the industry’s first high-power voltage regulator, the LM109. This finding came at a time when engineers hotly debated whether it was possible to develop a high-power regulator on a single chip.

> Widlar, established as an engineering genius in 1969, wrote a paper settling the debate, claiming temperature swings and packaging limitations made the device impossible. The industry took his word for it and stopped all efforts to build such a device. However, in 1970, Widlar shocked his contemporaries with the 20-W LM109, the industry’s first high-power voltage regulator. The device included all of the features Widlar had claimed were impossible just one year prior.

A toilet that has a door with a countdown seems like the most stress-inducing thing ever.

Re:Anthropic candidates face blunt money question on Monday August 24, 2026 @08:17AM (#49418662)
Is it that inconceivable to think that there are people who would be ok with stopping what they're doing when they realize it's harmful?
Re:DeepSeek-v4-flash-vision-exp on Friday August 21, 2026 @11:05AM (#49389240)
Thanks, I seem to have grossly misremembered what I read.
Re:DeepSeek-v4-flash-vision-exp on Friday August 21, 2026 @07:23AM (#49386490)
Interesting. Wasn't Deepseek's founder saying that they had explicitly decided not to focus on multimodal models at all and were going text-only because they believed it was enough to achieve AGI?
The (relatively new) Casiotone CT-S1000V and CT-S500 have CZ sounds included along with fun voice synthesis technology, and are recommended as a good cheap keyboard on some forums.
It still works the same way other LLMs do, by outputting the probability distribution over the possible completions (The weather is ... (sunny (50%), cloudy (50%))). Then the next token is sampled from this probability distribution (in our example the next word could be "sunny" or "cloudy" equally likely), which can result in different outputs every run.

Parts of this reminded me of the book "Sadly, Porn".
For Firefox I've switched to Glide (Firefox fork?) and configured it to implement Emacs keybindings. There is a config on the project's Github discussions page that I started off of.

Re:Show HN: A 2D and 3D robot arm simulator built in Excel on Wednesday June 10, 2026 @10:43AM (#48477066)
I guess you're writing it all out for educational purposes, but conventionally to describe the kinematics of a serial robot arm Denavit-Hartenberg parameters are used, which needs only 4 parameters per link.
